Scottish test for Reds XI
United have named a provisional 17-man squad for Saturday's friendly at Ross County. Federico Macheda could lead the line again as Warren Joyce has similar personnel at his disposal to those on duty in Monday's victory against Club Brugge. Tom Lawrence, James Wilson, Andreas Pereira and Jack Barmby are also in contention for places despite featuring in the 2-1 success in Waterford on Thursday night. 17-year-old keeper Joel Castro Pereira is set to act as cover for Sam Johnstone. There could still be alterations to the travelling party for the match at the revamped Victoria Park. Quote:

2013/14 Barclays Under-21 Premier League fixtures
http://www.premierleague.com/content...338.margin.png The fixtures for the 2013/14 Barclays Under-21 Premier League have been released today with a new format for the forthcoming campaign. There will be one national division, the Barclays Under-21 Premier League, comprised of 22 Category 1 Academies. The Academies involved are: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Norwich City, Reading, Southampton, Stoke City, Sunderland, Tottenham hotspur, West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Having played each other once, either home or away, the top four teams in the table will progress to the semi-final stage and final to determine the overall Barclays Under-21 Premier League winners. The Academies who finish first and fourth in the League will meet in one semi-final, with the former at home, while the second and third-placed clubs will meet in the other semi-final, with the League runners-up deemed the home team. This season each team is required to play at least three of their home matches at their nominated home stadium, with training grounds and Academy venues permitted for the staging of up to three home matches. 13/14 Barclays Under-21 Premier League fixtures *Please note these fixtures are subject to change HTML Code:

Warren Joyce's side picked up their medals after the trophy was retained last term by default when all of the fixtures could not be fulfilled with the Reds leading the group. United begin the 2013/2014 competition with an away game against Bolton Wanderers at The County Ground on 30 September. The Lancashire Senior Cup is still up for grabs with the final taking place against Manchester City on 6 August. |

The United keeper watched as Michael West's ambitious long-ranger clipped the bar and Wootton had to be alert to block a Jon Guthrie shot. But United always carried the greater threat and, after Nani failed to get enough power in one attempt, he ran onto a flick by Tom Lawrence to shrug off a challenge that could have resulted in a penalty, kept his balance and composure and nonchalantly steered a calm finish wide of Martin for his second of the game. Vidic was withdrawn after more than an hour and Nani followed afterwards but Valencia stayed on for the entire duration. Bebe, Nani's replacement, bounced a speculative drive at Martin and Petrucci bent a decent effort just wide. Federico Macheda then curled off target following a clever backheel by the lively Lawrence and Bebe produced the final effort as United ran out comfortable winners. United: Johnstone; Wootton, Thorpe (Grimshaw 70), Vidic (Pearson 62), Vermijl; Valencia, Lawrence (Rothwell 76), Cole, Petrucci, Nani (Bebe 65); Macheda. Subs not used: Gollini, Barmby, Wilson. |
