Manchester United and Crystal Palace fans banned from wearing club colours in corporate seats at FA Cup final

* Manchester United play Crystal Palace in FA Cup final at Wembley
* Club Wembley members will not be allowed to wear team colours
* FA crackdown on dress code comes in wake of several ugly incidents
* Supporters who wear banned clothing could be ejected from seats

The FA are to ban all Wembley corporate seat supporters of Manchester United and Crystal Palace from wearing their club colours at the FA Cup final on Saturday.

All 15,000 season ticket holders with access to Club Wembley and Bobby Moore Club hospitality areas of the stadium have received emails this week telling them that they risk being ejected — even for wearing a club lapel badge on a jacket.

Replica shirts had never been allowed in the Club Wembley seats but the club branding clothing restrictions that ‘will be strictly enforced’ now extend to scarves, hats, flags, foam hands and any clothing items, including club ties, bags, face paint, badges and lanyards.

Crystal Palace fans sitting in corporate seats at Wembley on Saturday cannot wear their team's colours

The ‘No Club Colours’ crackdown introduced by FA management follows a number of ugly confrontations that took place between rival fans in the corporate hospitality areas across the semi-final weekend when Watford were beaten by Crystal Palace and Manchester United defeated Everton.

The email from the Club Wembley Team reads: ‘This rule has never been extended to other items than replica shirts; however, due to a number of incidents at recent events, a “No Club Colours” policy is being introduced and will be strictly enforced from the Emirates FA Cup final.

‘Should club colours be worn, you may be refused entry or be removed from the stadium for your own safety.’

Pleaseeeeee

Manchester United sweat over Marcos Rojo ahead of FA Cup final after defender suffers injury in training

* Marcos Rojo is facing a fitness race for the FA Cup final
* Argentina defender has picked up an injury ahead of Saturday's showpiece
* He was not named in squad to face Bournemouth in abandoned match
* Manchester United face Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo suffered an injury in training and is a doubt for Saturday's FA Cup final.

Rojo and midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who was ill, were not named in United's matchday squad for the abandoned Premier League match against Bournemouth.

Argentina international Rojo, who had undergone surgery after dislocating a shoulder in training in December, faces a race against time to get fit for United's FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley after picking up the knock on Saturday.

Marcos Rojo is a doubt for Manchester United's Wembley date with Crystal Palace on Saturday

United are sixth in the Premier League table and would move above Southampton into fifth with a draw or victory in their last match against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Greater Manchester's police and crime commissioner Tony Lloyd has demanded an inquiry into the 'fiasco' which led to Sunday's match being abandoned because of what turned out to be a fake bomb left behind after a training exercise.

Bomb disposal experts called in by Greater Manchester Police carried out a controlled explosion after a suspect package was found in toilets shortly before the scheduled kick-off of United's clash against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The discovery of the item, described by the bomb disposal unit as an 'incredibly lifelike explosive device', prompted a full-scale security alert and the complete evacuation of the stadium.

It was later confirmed that the device 'wasn't viable' and it emerged that it was a fake bomb that had not been removed after a recent training exercise at the ground which involved sniffer dogs and which was conducted by a private firm.

Lloyd, who is also the interim mayor of Greater Manchester, said: 'It is outrageous this situation arose and a full inquiry is required to urgently find out how this happened, why it happened and who will be held accountable.

'This fiasco caused massive inconvenience to supporters who had come from far and wide to watch the match, wasted the time of huge numbers of police officers and the army's bomb squad, and unnecessarily put people in danger, as evacuating tens of thousands of people from a football stadium is not without risk.

'Whilst this in no way demeans the professionalism of the police and stewards responsible for getting the fans out, or the supporters' calmness and co-operation during the evacuation, it is unacceptable that it happened in the first place.'

Van Gaal discusses plans for FA Cup final

Louis van Gaal has admitted that selecting his starting XI for Saturday’s FA Cup final will be difficult, particularly when excluding players from the matchday squad altogether.

The Manchester United manager has up to 27 first-team players who are fit and vying for selection ahead of the showpiece finale at Wembley Stadium, where Crystal Palace will provide the opposition.

Speaking after Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth in the final Barclays Premier League match of the season, van Gaal discussed his selection dilemma and the prospect of disappointing his players.

“I think that these are big decisions because everybody wants to play in the final and everybody knows that,” the manager told MUTV at Old Trafford. “But you have to make the decision.

“Also, everybody wants to be in the squad but that is not possible. We have 27 first-team players up for selection and I can only choose 18. Then I have to choose 11, so it is not easy!”

Wayne Rooney is one player whose selection is guaranteed on Saturday and the captain will presumably be high on confidence, after scoring the opener against Eddie Howe's Bournemouth in midweek and later winning the club’s Man of the Match award on Twitter.

The 30-year-old excelled in central midfield and van Gaal believes that is now his position to hold down. “Yes, I think so because he loves to play there and he shows in the matches that he can decide the game,” he said. “That is very important, so I expect that is what he shall do in the future.”

Marcus Rashford also notched his eighth goal of the season on Tuesday and the manager is optimistic that the teenage striker can finish his breakthrough campaign with an FA Cup winners’ medal.

“Yes, it is unbelievable and amazing for a youngster of 18 years old, to see what he is doing. He has played in all of the matches [bar Norwich City] because I didn’t save him - I have only saved him for the last 15 minutes or something like that. He is showing a great quality and I hope that he can show it also in the final.”
