10 THINGS WE LEARNED FROM UNITED'S FIXTURES

OLD TRAFFORD START
First up are West Ham United - and it is the first time the clubs have ever met at Old Trafford in a league season opener. However, the sides played at Upton Park in the opening match of the 1961/62 term with Nobby Stiles scoring in a 1-1 draw. The first away trip is to Swansea City, who were the opening-weekend opponents in 2013/14 and 2014/15.

ANFIELD ANTICIPATION
The always eagerly-awaited match on Merseyside against Liverpool will have heightened anticipation as it is scheduled for the weekend of 14/15 October, following a break for key international fixtures as the World Cup picture will become clearer. The Old Trafford encounter between the fierce rivals is to be played around 10 March.

NEW VENUES TO VISIT
United are due at Huddersfield Town's John Smith's Stadium the weekend after the Anfield assignment, 21/22 October, with the previous encounters with the Yorkshiremen held at Leeds Road. A first-ever game at Brighton's American Express Community Stadium ('the Amex') is set to be the Reds' last away league clash of the season, on 5 May.

WEMBLEY TRIP
A 50th competitive club appearance at the national stadium is pencilled in for 31 January after Tottenham moved their home venue while a new ground is built at White Hart Lane.

FESTIVE FARE
The traditional Boxing Day match is a home clash against Burnley at Old Trafford - the Clarets held out for a 0-0 draw in this fixture last term. The opening game of the 2018 calendar year, currently scheduled for New Year's Day, is a tough-looking visit to Ronald Koeman's Everton.

DERBY DAYS
The Manchester derbies are due to be staged around 9 December at Old Trafford and 7 April at the Etihad Stadium. It's the same order as last season with the home fixture coming first before the away encounter with our neighbours falls towards the end of the campaign.

CHANCES TO BEAT THE CHAMPIONS
Title-winners Chelsea will come to Manchester on or around 24 February. They were soundly beaten by Mourinho's men at the Theatre of Dreams last season, as were the 2015/16 champions, Leicester City.

HORNETS FINALE
United are to meet Watford at home in the last game of the league campaign on 13 May, six days before the Emirates FA Cup final.

CUP CAMPAIGN UNDER A NEW NAME
Jose Mourinho's side will begin the defence of the newly-named Carabao Cup (last year's EFL Cup) in the third round due to Champions League commitments. This tie will take place around 20 September after the Reds host Everton in the Premier League during the previous weekend.

EUROPEAN SCHEDULE
The group-stage games in the Champions League take place on 12/13 September, 26/27 September, 17/18 October, 31 October/1 November, 21/22 November and 5/6 December. Hence, the visit to Chelsea follows one date and the final group game is sandwiched between key clashes with Arsenal and Manchester City.

UNITED FACE BURTON ALBION IN CARABAO CUP

http://www.manutd.com/sitecore/shell...,110,3000,1805

Manchester United will begin the defence of the League Cup with a third-round tie against Championship side Burton Albion at Old Trafford.

Thursday's draw, which was held in Beijing, China, revealed the 16 third-round fixtures to be played in the week beginning 18 September.

The 2017/18 League Cup is sponsored by Carabao, a Thai brand, and United will look to get off to a flyer in this season's competition against Nigel Clough's outfit, who have won one and lost three of their four league games so far this season, after surviving relegation by a single point last term.

PREVIOUS MEETING
The sides have met twice before, in the FA Cup third round in January 2006, when Sir Alex Ferguson's side were held to a shock 0-0 draw by the Brewers – who were then in the Conference – at the Pirelli Stadium, before coming through the replay 5-0 at home, with goals from Louis Saha, Giuseppe Rossi (2), Kieran Richardson and Ryan Giggs.

LAST SEASON
The Reds claimed a fifth League Cup title last season, as Jose Mourinho’s side overcame Southampton 3-2 in the final to claim a second trophy of the campaign.

United’s route to Wembley contained a couple of memorable wins, such as the 1-0 fourth-round triumph over derby rivals Manchester City and the 4-1 demolition of West Ham at Old Trafford in the fifth round. As well as that, striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic finished as the competition's joint-leading scorer with four goals.

RIVALS WATCH
Mourinho’s Reds are one of seven Premier League sides to join the draw at this stage, which comprises the 32 teams left in the competition. Here is the full draw:

West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City
Everton v Sunderland
Leicester City v Liverpool
Manchester United v Burton Albion
Brentford v Norwich City
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Bristol Rovers
Burnley v Leeds United
Arsenal v Doncaster Rovers
Bristol City v Stoke City
Reading v Swansea City
Aston Villa v Middlesbrough
Chelsea v Nottingham Forest
West Ham United v Bolton Wanderers
Crystal Palace v Huddersfield Town
Tottenham Hotspur v Barnsley or Derby County

UNITED'S FIXTURE CHANGES FOR DECEMBER

The TV selections have been made the Premier League matches in December and Manchester United feature in a number of fixtures picked for broadcast.

The Reds' trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal will now take place on Saturday 2 December, with a 17:30 GMT kick-off, and is to be shown live on BT Sport.

The Manchester derby with current league leaders City at Old Trafford has been moved and will now be on Sunday 10 December at 16:30 GMT on Sky Sports. The date change for this match means United's home game with Bournemouth has also changed to Wednesday 13 December, kick-off 20:00 GMT, although it will not be shown on TV in the UK.

Our visit to West Brom is due to be screened by Sky Sports on Sunday 17 December, with a 14:15 GMT start, however, this match is subject to possible change should Everton and/or Swansea City (United's opponents in the competition) progress to the EFL Cup fifth round.

The pre-Christmas visit to Leicester City has been confirmed in a unique Saturday evening slot for 23 December, starting at 19:45 GMT. It will be shown live on Sky Sports. BT Sport have also announced our home game with Southampton on 30 December is to kick off at 17:30 GMT, with the club confirming the new time.

The broadcast selections for the month of January will be announced no later than Friday 27 October.

UNITED'S FA CUP DATE CONFIRMED

Manchester United have been drawn at home to Championship club Derby County in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup. The tie will be played on Friday 5 January 2018 with kick-off at 20:00 GMT but the match will not be shown on live TV in the UK.

The Reds' pairing with the Rams was announced during Monday night's televised draw at the home of non-league side Slough Town, prior to their second-round tie against League One club Rochdale. The draw was made by former England midfielders Glenn Hoddle and Jermaine Jenas.

United's last two meetings with Derby have both come in the FA Cup at Pride Park. The Reds won 3-1 in the fourth round en route to winning the competition under Louis van Gaal in 2015/16, with Daley Blind, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney all on the scoresheet. Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge for the previous clash, an emphatic 4-1 triumph in the fifth round of 2008/09.

The forthcoming clash at Old Trafford will be Derby's first match at the stadium since that same 2008/09 season, when they also faced the Reds in the League Cup semi-final. The Rams lost 4-2 in Manchester on 20 January 2009, having won the first leg at Pride Park 1-0.

The other eye-catching ties in the third round include the all-Premier League fixtures between Liverpool and their neighbours Everton, Manchester City hosting a North-West derby with Burnley and Brighton and Hove Albion receiving a visit from Crystal Palace. Cup holders Arsenal are away to Nottingham Forest and Chelsea have also been given a road trip, to Norwich City.

Arsenal, the side defeated by United in Saturday's thrilling Premier League match, are the only club to have won the FA Cup more times than the Reds with 13 triumphs to 12. Jose Mourinho's bid to lift the trophy in his first campaign at the Old Trafford helm ended in last season's quarter-finals, with a slender 1-0 defeat at his former club Chelsea.

UNITED'S FEBRUARY FIXTURE CHANGES CONFIRMED

Two of Manchester United's Premier League matches in February 2018 have been selected for live TV coverage in the UK.

The Reds' trip to Newcastle United has been put back by almost 24 hours to Sunday 11 February, with kick-off at 14:15 GMT, and will be shown live on Sky Sports.

United's home league match against Chelsea has also been moved for Sky Sports, to Sunday 25 February at 14:05 GMT. However this game will be postponed if the Blues reach the Carabao Cup final which is due to be played on the same day.

FA Cup: Who will United face in round five?

Manchester United will be away to either Birmingham City or Huddersfield Town in the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup, with the eventual fixture set to be played between 16 and 19 February.

The tie was one of eight drawn out by Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit and former United youth-team player Robbie Savage on Monday evening, three days after the Reds secured a place among the last 16 teams in the competition by winning 4-0 away to League Two club Yeovil Town.

Huddersfield Town were held 1-1 at home by Birmingham City in their original fourth-round meeting on Saturday after Lukas Jutkiewicz's second-half equaliser cancelled out Steve Mounie's opener for the Premier League side. The two sides will contest the right to host the Reds when they meet again in a replay at St Andrew's on Tuesday night next week.

The ultimate FA Cup objective for Jose Mourinho and his players is to win the final on 19 May 2018. Victory on that day at Wembley would put the club's name on the trophy for the 13th time overall, a record that would be shared with last season's winners Arsenal. The Gunners were knocked out in the third round and they have since been joined on the eliminated list by another Premier League top-six side, Liverpool, who lost 3-2 at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday night.

FULL FIFTH-ROUND DRAW

Sheffield Wednesday v Notts County or Swansea City
West Bromwich Albion v Southampton
Chelsea v Hull City
Leicester City v Sheffield United
Huddersfield Town or Birmingham City v Manchester United

UNITED'S APRIL TV GAMES CONFIRMED

All four of Manchester United’s Premier League fixtures currently scheduled for April have been moved to accommodate live television coverage in the UK.

The eagerly awaited derby against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium is set to be an early evening kick-off on Saturday 7 April at 17:30 BST and will be shown live on Sky Sports. However, it is subject to either team participating in the UEFA Champions League the following Tuesday.

The Reds’ home clash with West Bromwich Albion will now take place on Sunday 15 April, with a 16:00 BST kick-off at Old Trafford, and will also be screened on Sky Sports.

The following week, United travel to Bournemouth and the game at the Vitality Stadium is due to be played on Saturday 21 April, with a provisional kick-off time of 17:30 BST, live on BT Sport. However, this could change if the Reds reach the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup – which are set to be staged at Wembley over that weekend.

The month ends for the Reds with the anticipated visit of Arsenal to the Theatre of Dreams, which is scheduled for Sunday 29 April at 16:30 BST and will be shown live on Sky Sports. This is also subject to change, if United are involved in the Champions League the following Tuesday.

A new date is also yet to be arranged for United’s Premier League trip to West Ham United, which was originally scheduled for Sunday 18 March but was postponed to accommodate the Reds’ Emirates FA Cup quarter-final tie against Brighton at Old Trafford the day before.

DATES FIXED FOR TWO UNITED LEAGUE GAMES

A date has been set for Manchester United’s Premier League fixture away to West Ham United.

The Reds will travel to the London Stadium on Thursday 10 May for an evening clash. It will kick off at 19:45 BST and will be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that United’s clash away to Brighton & Hove Albion will be played on Friday 4 May. The game will kick off at 20:00 BST and will also be screened on Sky Sports in the UK.

It follows the announcement of the latest TV selections on Wednesday afternoon.

THURSDAY NIGHT TRIP TO THE HAMMERS

United’s penultimate league match of the campaign will see the Reds make the long journey to the capital, to face a West Ham side that is currently just five points above the bottom three in 14th place and could still be battling to avoid relegation following a turbulent campaign.

The fixture will pit United against former boss David Moyes, who took over from Slaven Bilic last November following the Croatian’s departure.

United can complete the double over the Hammers, who were thrashed 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku (2), Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.

As was the case when United faced Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last month on a Monday evening, the scheduling of the game could prove to be problematic for travelling fans on a weekday night.

It’s only our second ever visit to the London Stadium and the first time the Reds will play a league game on a Thursday night since the goalless draw at Manchester City on 27 April 2017.

FRIDAY VISIT TO THE SOUTH COAST

United will begin the month of May with a first ever trip to the Amex Stadium, which will also be our first Friday night game in the Premier League this season.

Of course, the Reds have already contested two FA Cup ties on the same evening this season, against Derby County and Yeovil Town back in January.

Again, it presents a lengthy round trip of more than 500 miles for the travelling United faithful, though they will relish the prospect of ticking off another new away ground.

Currently sitting six points above the drop zone in 13th position, the Seagulls are edging towards safety and securing a second successive season of Premier League football following their promotion last term.
