MILK CUP - PREMIER SECTION
FC ZAMORA 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 4 (Van Velzen 7, Barmby 41, Wilson 61, Gorre 63) 25/07/2011 21:30, Report by A Marshall & H McConnell Milk Cup off to good start United opened their Milk Cup campaign with a 4-0 victory against FC Zamora in Northern Ireland. Paul McGuinness' teenagers proved too strong for the Venezuelans with Mats Daehli performing well in midfield and earning the acclaim of the crowd for some of his passing. Gyliano van Velzen got the ball rolling after seven minutes when heading home after Tom Lawrence's shot was parried out. Jack Barmby doubled the lead six minutes after the break (the matches are 35 minutes each-way) when lashing a great strike high into the net following a fine pass by Lawrence. Zamora were reduced to 10 men and the Reds took full advantage with two goals in three minutes. James Weir produced a piece of skill in midfield that Wayne Rooney would be proud of and schoolboy James Wilson profited by rounding the keeper to slip home. Kenji Gorre completed the rout soon afterwards with a header following some fine strength and approach play by van Velzen down the right. United: Coll; Hendrie (Weir), Blackett, Ekangamene, McCullough; Rudge, van Velzen, Barmby (Wilson), Daehli (Gorre), Pearson (Rothwell), Lawrence. Code:

Yah... setelah relatif mudah di awal turnamen, akhirnya United kalah juga di final. Kalah telak 5-1 (kayaknya tribal salah coz di web-nya milkcup tertulis 5-1) dari Aspire academy-nya Qatar. Pelajaran berharga...
______________________________________ Man Utd thrashed by Qatar Aspire Academy in Milk Cup final 30.07.11 | tribalfootball.com Manchester United have been thrashed in the Milk Cup final by Qatar's Aspire academy. The young Reds had no answer to formidable opponents, who trounced Desportivo Brasil 6-1 in the semi-finals, and were put out of sight by a Ibrahima Drame hat-trick within 25 minutes. It will be an important lesson learned for coach Paul McGuinness' charges and helpful in their development and nothing should be taken away from their excellent progression to the final in Northern Ireland. |

U18: United 1 Portsmouth 2 United started the Academy season with a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Portsmouth at Carrington. Paul McGuinness' side were on top for long periods but had no real cutting edge and were undone by two goals against the run of play. George Colson drilled the opener into the corner of Liam Jacob's net and the Australian keeper was beaten by Alexander Grant to a dangerous free-kick for the eventual winner. The young Reds looked a little rusty with their finishing as Jack Rudge, Mats Daehli and Joe Rothwell were all off target in the first half and Matt Gledhill saved well from Daehli and Jack Barmby. After the break, Tom Lawrence had a goal rightly disallowed for a push following a neat move and another promising build-up led to Barmby firing straight at Gledhill. Injuries to players from both sides, including United's Matthew Wilkinson, disrupted the flow of the second half and the Reds were grateful to Jacob for keeping out Adam Webster's point-blank header and to see Ashley Harris' effort ruled out for offside. It allowed Lawrence to give his side hope when steering home after great approach work from Daehli and Rothwell but Pompey held out with Tyler Blackett booked late on for dissent as frustration started to grow. United: Jacob; Hendrie, Wilkinson (Weir 67), McCullough, Blackett; van Velzen, Rudge, Rothwell, Daehli; Lawrence, Barmby. Subs not used: Pearson, Coll, Gorre. |

U18: United 3 Leeds 1 http://www.manutd.com/~/media/21CB21...n=51,0,654,448 Tom Lawrence United's Under-18s kickstarted their season with a 3-1 victory over Leeds at Carrington to get three points on the board in the Premier Academy League. Tom Lawrence scored twice, including a penalty, and Jack Barmby wrapped things up in the closing stages after the visitors competed well throughout. Welshman Lawrence took only a couple of minutes to break through, profiting from some aggressive play by Barmby to set up a left-footed finish with a lovely piece of skill. A similar piece of individual magic led to Lawrence firing over the top and Ezekiel Fryers went closer when smacking the bar with a curling shot following Luke McCullough's neat backheel. Sam Byrne had a goal harshly ruled out and United were stunned when Lewis Turner's shot out of nowhere from the left flank beat Joe Coll at his near post for the equaliser. Eric Grimes kept out James Weir and Byrne but the keeper had to face a penalty on the hour mark after more neat footwork from Lawrence drew a reckless tackle out of Conor Qualter. Lawrence dusted himself down to calmly beat the young Irish keeper from the spot for 2-1. The outstanding Lawrence was unlucky with attempts to grab his hat-trick and Gyliano van Velzen deflected a precise Tyler Blackett cross over the bar before Barmby made sure of the points when a corner routine involving Lawrence and Joe Rothwell opened up the defence and the forward, watched by father Nick in the stands, despatched a firm finish. United: Coll; Hendrie, Fryers, McCullough, Blackett; Barmby, Lawrence, Weir, Rothwell, van Velzen; Byrne. Subs: McNair, Jacob, Dalley, Rowley, Gorre. |

10/09/2011 12:53 - ManUtd.com, Steve Bartram U18: Sheff Utd 0 United 2 Goals from Jack Barmby and Gyliano van Velzen gave United's under-18s victory over Sheffield United in a repeat of last season's FA Youth Cup final. The Reds almost scored after 70 seconds when Tom Lawrence flashed a long-range effort just wide but, as the hosts warmed to the occasion, Elliott Whitehouse forced a fine, plunging save from Liam Jacob with a 10th minute shot from distance. Just as the Blades were establishing a foothold in the game, United broke the deadlock. Lawrence's measured ball released Sam Byrne, whose attempt to round George Willis was thwarted, only for on-song Barmby to race in and tuck home the loose ball. Jacob then beat away a shot from Deacon, before Willis had to drop to his left to turn away a shot from van Velzen. The Dutch winger, operating on the right wing but cutting inside, would not be denied his goal for long, however. United's lead was almost doubled when Lawrence's curling effort bounced off the crossbar, before van Velzen tapped home the rebound when James Weir's shot was spilled. As the defences largely bossed the remainder of the game, the closest call for either side came when Whitehouse dragged a shot just wide of Jacob's far post in stoppage time. Paul McGuinness' youngsters registered a first clean sheet of the season and a second successive victory, making it six points from a possible 12 so far this term. United: Jacob; Hendrie, McCullough, Dalley, Blackett; van Velzen, Rothwell, Weir, Barmby (Daehli, 60); Lawrence, Byrne (McNair, 83). Subs not used: Coll, Pearson, Ekangamene. |

U18: United 1 Boro 1 http://www.manutd.com/~/media/EFF1EC...,260,2280,1956 United's youngsters*recovered from conceding a 31-second goal to register a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at Carrington. It was probably a fair result in the end but, after the setback of losing Tom Lawrence to injury before the game, the Reds were stunned*by the first move of the match when Jordan Jones converted a Charlie Wyke knock-back to a*Lewis Sirrell cross. Gyliano van Velzen and Declan Dalley spurned gilt-edged openings but Wyke remained a threat at the other end as neither side gained the upper hand.*Soon after the break, the excellent Tyler Blackett's cross found van Velzen, whose header came back off an upright. The danger looked to have passed but Joe Rothwell was gifted possession on the edge of the box and rocketed a drive past Luke Coddington for the equaliser. Coddington palmed away a Sam Byrne shot on the turn and Mats Daehli fired wide but Boro had chances too with Wyke off target on a couple of occasions and Curtis Edwards forcing a brilliant, diving stop out of Liam Jacob. Wilson Kneeshaw also tested Jacob's reflexes and the keeper was grateful to see a Jones curler bounce back off the woodwork as the scoreline remained 1-1. United: Jacob; Hendrie, Dalley, McCullough, Blackett; Van Velzen, Weir, Rothwell, Barmby (Pearson 54), Daehli; Byrne. U18: Blackburn 3 United 2 . Despite a brave, late fightback, United’s youngsters fell foul of a clinical performance from Blackburn Rovers at Brockhall Village. The hosts were two goals ahead inside 21 minutes after fine finishes from John O’Sullivan and Jamie McClaren, and the deficit might have been greater in a one-sided first-half. United rallied after the break and passed up a handful of presentable opportunities, before McClaren seemingly put the outcome beyond doubt by stabbing home his second goal. Joe Rothwell reprised his spectacular shooting of last week’s draw against Middlesbrough with another rasping long-range effort and Tom Lawrence also curled in a stunning effort, but it was too little, too late for the Reds. In a keenly-contested game littered with fouls and cautions, Blackburn adapted better, while United struggled to find a passing rhythm and often caused their own problems. Luke Hendrie managed to clear the danger on 10 minutes, after Tyler Blackett’s blind back-pass had been intercepted, but there was no reprieve when the Reds failed to play their way out of defence five minutes later. Declan Dalley only managed to scuff his clearance to the edge of the area, but O’Sullivan’s emphatic finish hurtled unstoppably inside Joe Coll’s far post. The United goalkeeper was similarly helpless six minutes later, when Curtis Haley’s looping cross was superbly redirected inside the far post by McClaren’s arcing header. Rovers continued to menace, while Sam Byrne headed off-target and fired straight at home goalkeeper Chris Dilo with the Reds’ best openings of the half. United flew out of the traps in the second period, and should have pulled a goal back when Byrne, Jack Barmby, __ Weir and Gyliano van Velzen all had efforts blocked in the same passage of play. Dilo then denied both Tom Lawrence and van Velzen with smart stops, before McClaren made victory safe by turning in the rebound after his own header had rattled Coll’s post. To their credit, the Reds continued to battle gamely, and pulled a goal back with 15 minutes remaining. Blackett did well to divert a clearance into the path of Rothwell, who smashed a fine shot inside Dilo’s near post. Tails up, United struck again shortly afterwards. Lawrence exchanged passes with Blackett and curled a magnificent effort into the far top corner. From nowhere, the visitors were back in contention. Despite plenty of late endeavour, however, the Reds’ closest brush with parity came through Rothwell’s scuffed shot which trickled two yards wide in injury time. United: Coll; Hendrie, McCullough, Dalley, Blackett; Barmby, Rothwell, Weir (Pearson 69), van Velzen; Lawrence (Gorre 89), Byrne. Subs not used: Ekangamene, Rudge http://img.kaskus.us/images/kaskusmobile_hp.gif |

U18: United 1 Man City 3 http://www.manutd.com/~/media/B0E2EB...131,24,630,397 The mini-derby belonged to City as the young Reds were on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline. After an even opening, two goals within five minutes left United facing an uphill battle. Jordy Hiwula latched onto a through ball by Albert Rusnak and clipped his finish past Liam Jacob before Rusnak dribbled through to bag a fine solo effort to double the lead. There was a real blow when powerful skipper Luke McCullough was forced off after a clash of heads with Hiwula and, with no defender on the bench, Ben Pearson's introduction meant a reshuffle of the team. Paul McGuinness' side still responded to reduce the arrears when a Joe Rothwell cross was only cleared to Gyliano van Velzen and the Dutchman*calmly placed a relaxed finish*past City keeper Angus Gunn. In a game of few other chances, the second half was littered with free-kicks and swung in City's favour when a hugely debatable penalty was awarded for a challenge by Luke Hendrie on Rusnak as he shot wide. Rusnak took the spot-kick himself and slammed it past Jacob to put the game beyond the hosts' reach. Andy Cole, who was on the touchline, saw his son Devante come on as a substitute for City but there were few late openings for either side as the Reds, who also lost Tom Lawrence through injury, failed to really test Gunn again. United: Jacob; Hendrie, McCullough (Pearson 35), Dalley, Blackett; Barmby, Rothwell, Enkangamene, van Velzen (Gorre 82); Lawrence (Daehli 74), Byrne. U18: Wolves 5 United 2 http://www.manutd.com/~/media/FA80B4...gn=0,1,639,479 Manchester United's Under 18s sustained a third Academy League defeat on the spin on Saturday, despite taking an early lead away to Wolves. Joe Rothwell's smart strike into the top corner after ten minutes was cancelled out by Zeli Ismail midway through the first half and although the score remained 1-1 until the interval, Wolves were eventually comfortable winners. The hosts*moved in front for the first time eleven minutes after the break when Charni Ekangamene brought down Ismail and the impeded player, scorer of a hat-trick against the Reds in last season's fixture, stepped up to convert the resulting penalty. Ekangamene was booked for his misdemeanour. A back-to-back goal blast in the space of two minutes effectively killed the contest in Wolves' favour.*Jack Price's well-struck shot from the edge of the area on 71 minutes was immediately followed by Sam Whittle's header from Jake Kempton's inviting left-wing cross. Jack Barmby pulled one back for United from the penalty spot, seven minutes from time, after Adnan Januzaj - who showed some good touches*on his Reds debut - was felled in the area. Kempton responded in the final*minute with a fine*volley, to make it 5-2 to Wolves. The young Reds must now pick themselves up for*a home clash with Liverpool, on the eve of the senior sides' meeting at Anfield. Kick off at Carrington will be at 12:00 midday on Friday, 14 October, with the action being shown live on MUTV. United: Coll; Hendrie, Dalley, Blackett, Ekangamene; Daehli, Pearson, Rothwell, Barmby; Januzaj, Byrne. U18: Liverpool 2 United 1 http://www.manutd.com/~/media/187ED8...,248,2372,2010 United's Under-18s battled hard at Liverpool but went down to a fourth consecutive Academy defeat with a 2-1 reverse. A nightmare start did not help the Reds' cause but an improved second-half display saw Jack Barmby pull one back with a splendid strike. Adam Morgan's near-post header made the early breakthrough in the third minute and, despite playing some neat football, United never really threatened Tyrell Belford before falling further behind to a soft header from Matty Regan when Liam Jacob failed to deal with a high cross from the right. Only the woodwork denied Jack Dunn a third for Mike Marsh's hosts but the second half produced more attractive work from the Reds and Barmby picked up a loose pass to smash home a superb strike with his left foot with an hour gone. It was Barmby's fifth of the campaign and takes him to the top of the scorers' chart. Jacob kept out a couple of decent attempts from Morgan as United struggled to create too many chances, although substitute Kenji Gorre was squeezed out in the closing stages when being played through by Barmby's intelligent pass. United: Jacob, Hendrie (Love 65), Blackett, McCullough, Ekangamene, Pearson, Daehli, Rothwell (Rudge 57), Barmby, Januzaj (Gorre 86), van Velzen. Re: United Academy Match 2011-2012
Melwood . |

United's Under-18s picked up three useful points by beating Crewe Alexandra on Wednesday afternoon, courtesy of some fine goals at Carrington. Adnan Januzaj opened the scoring with his first Academy goal for the Reds, heading home from Charni Ekangamene's looping left-wing cross in the 28th minute. The score remained 1-0 until just past the hour mark when Jack Barmby, United's scorer in last Friday's defeat at Liverpool, unleashed a ferocious drive past Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt. Gyliano van Velzen put United 3-0 up when he latched onto a fine pass from Kenji Gorre and shot goalwards with the ball rolling over the line after Garratt got a hand to it. Jack Rudge added a fourth five minutes later with another long-range strike following a lay-off by substitute Paddy McNair. The only blemish, perhaps, was the consolation goal conceded to Crewe's Michael Koral four minutes from time, thus denying Joe Coll a clean sheet. However, after five games without a win, the Reds can feel well pleased with the victory with Garratt also pulling off saves to deny the likes of the elegant Januzaj, van Velzen and McNair. United: Coll, Love, Ekangamene (Wilkinson, 65), Blackett, McCullough, Hendrie, Gorre, Rudge, van Velzen, Januzaj, Barmby (McNair, 71). Subs not used: Jacob, Pearson, Daehli. -manutd- |

Ekangamene’s strike on 42 minutes, a superb long-range effort that arrowed into the bottom corner, lit up an otherwise dull first 45 minutes that was characterised by sloppy passing and poor ball retention. After the break, though, Paul McGuinness’s young side looked an entirely different outfit. Gyliano Van Velzen forced a top stop from the Bolton goalkeeper before Barmby doubled United’s lead when he capitalised on a bad defensive error. The young forward then squandered a golden opportunity to grab another following a scrappy goalmouth scramble, but his second-half strike – his seventh goal for the U18s this term – ultimately proved decisive after Bolton pulled one back on the break on 88 minutes. The victory, which required equal parts grit and guile, was the Reds’ fourth of the season, although celebrations were tempered somewhat by a nasty looking injury to midfielder Joe Rothwell. United: Jacob; Love, Blackett, Dalley, McCullough; Ekangamene, Daehli (Byrne 46), Rudge (Rothwell 46 (Pearson 78), Van Velzen; Januzaj Barmby |
