Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel says it will be 'super difficult' for Neymar to be fit for their Champions League tie against Manchester United next month.

The Brazilian superstar suffered a fractured metatarsal against Strasbourg in the French Cup on Wednesday night.

'It's going to be super difficult', Tuchel told Canal+ when asked if Neymar would return from a metatarsal injury in time for the tie at Old Trafford on February 12.

'It is still too early to talk about a return date because we need to wait and see how 'Ney' reacts to treatment to be more precise,' he said.

Midfielder Verratti is also facing a battle to be fit after suffering a sprained ankle.

Despite the absence of the injured Neymar, PSG continued their march towards the Ligue 1 title with a 4-1 home thrashing of Stade Rennais on Sunday.

Edinson Cavani struck twice amd Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria also found the back of the net after Mbaye Niang had cancelled out Cavani's early opener.

Leaders PSG now have 56 points from 20 games and lead second-placed Lille, who beat Olympique de Marseille 2-1 away on Friday and have played two more games, by 13 points.

Neymar is expected to miss both legs of Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League tie against Manchester United.

The £198million Brazil star may require surgery on a metatarsal injury which could rule him out for the rest of the season.

The issue with his right foot, similar to one which kept him out for three months last season, is almost certain to see the 26-year-old miss February 12's trip to Old Trafford and the return leg in Paris on March 6.

'It's going to be very difficult, that is clear,' manager Thomas Tuchel said. 'It's too early to talk about a return date.

'We have to wait for the first week, which is very important, and its reaction to treatment. Only after that can we be more precise, but it's going to be very difficult [for the United match].'

SCOUTING REPORT: WHY IT WAS A MIXED NIGHT FOR PSG

Our upcoming UEFA Champions League opponents, Paris Saint-Germain, endured a longer than expected workout on Wednesday evening when they required extra time to beat lowly Villefranche 3-0 in the Coupe de France last 16.

PSG’s opposition are facing a relegation battle in National 1 this season, but the minnows surprisingly managed to frustrate the dominant Ligue 1 leaders by holding them to a 0-0 draw in normal time at Lyon’s Groupama Stadium.

Thomas Tuchel had named Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani on the bench for the cup tie, but the German manager was reluctantly forced to throw his star strikers into the action in the second half.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel was also sent off to the stand for persistently complaining to the referee, but he was soon relieved when his compatriot Julian Draxler finally broke the deadlock in the 102nd minute. Moussa Diaby and Cavani then secured the win with two goals in six extra-time minutes.

PSG are now through to the quarter-finals of a competition that they have impressively won four times in the previous five seasons.

TUCHEL HANDED OUT A DEBUT

PSG signed Leandro Paredes from Zenit Saint Petersburg in January for a reported fee of £35million, and the 24-year-old Argentina midfielder made a first appearance for his new club on Wednesday.

Wearing the no.8 shirt, Tuchel’s new acquisition almost scored with a couple of first-half free-kicks and otherwise enjoyed a straightforward night against the unfancied Villefranche side.

“It was a good opportunity to play Leandro for 60 or 70 minutes and, ultimately, he went the full 120,“ said Tuchel. ”Obviously, this will have consequences. As he played 120 minutes here, I am not sure if he will be able to play for much more than an hour against Bordeaux this weekend.

“Leandro played well. He was very reliable in the middle. He never lost the ball, showed his quality with some passes and was creative. It was not easy, but he showed his quality here.”

Due to Zenit’s participation in the UEFA Europa League this season, Paredes is available to play in the Champions League and could feature against us.

A SIGNIFICANT INJURY BLOW

Tuchel also revealed that Marco Verratti was unable to make his comeback from a sprained ankle because of a new injury problem.

Speaking after the final whistle at the Groupama Stadium, Tuchel explained the bad news about Verratti - just days after the Italy international had returned to training following the ankle sprain he sustained last month.

“Marco was unable to finish training on Tuesday,” said the manager. “He had problems and I have to wait until Thursday to be able to take a decision over playing him against Bordeaux. Marco's new issue is something else (not the same ankle), but I do not really know much more.”

WHAT'S NEXT FOR PSG?

The French champions are back in Ligue 1 action against Bordeaux on Saturday at 16:00 GMT, hoping to return to winning ways in the top flight following their 2-1 defeat at Lyon last weekend.

As they currently hold a comfortable 10-point lead at the top of the table, it will be interesting to see what type of starting XI manager Tuchel names against their 12th-placed opponent.

Manchester United invite senior Molde officials to PSG Champions League clash as caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bids to extend unbeaten run

Senior Molde officials will join Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward in the directors' box at Old Trafford for the club's Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

United's caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on loan from the Norwegian club until the end of the season but has made an exceptional, unbeaten start to life at Old Trafford — winning nine of his 10 games.

Solskjaer is now in the reckoning for the full-time job, along with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

United forward Jesse Lingard suggested that Solskjaer had the backing of the players.

Lingard told Sportsmail: 'Solskjaer and assistant Mike Phelan have brought back the old-school Manchester United. Nobody can fault him. He got the players backing him straight away.'

Solskjaer will be cheered on against PSG by a travelling Molde party of more than 100 executives, staff and supporters from the Norwegian region.

Woodward secured Solskjaer's services through two phone calls to Molde executives on the day after Jose Mourinho was sacked by United.

But this is understood to be the first time that officials from the two clubs have actually come together.

The visit was mooted as a gesture of goodwill when United made an agreement to loan Solskjaer for the rest of the season, with the fixture against PSG or the upcoming Premier League home match against Liverpool earmarked as potential glamour ties.

Molde managing director Oystein Neerland told Sportsmail last month that there is no agreement beyond May 12 for Solskjaer to remain at United.

He added that the Norwegian club do not have a 'Plan B' in place to cover the eventuality that United do end up poaching their manager.

However, there is private acceptance that matters may spiral and it is believed that Molde would not stand in the way of Solskjaer's dream of managing his beloved former club on a full-time basis.
