Re: [UCL] Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester United

Let's pull off another miracle! 20 years after THAT comeback in Turin, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots dream win over PSG in Champions League

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side looked like Manchester United of old on Saturday
* Team came back to beat Southampton 3-2 and will look to carry momentum
* PSG are 2-0 goals up in Champions League tie ahead of game in Paris
* Solskjaer wants to invoke spirit of Turin to overturn two goal deficit

Encouraged by another old school win at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping Manchester United can turn back the clock again in Paris on Wednesday night.

Next month, it will be 20 years since United somehow recovered from a two-goal deficit away to Juventus to reach the Champions League final.

The rest of that story and Solskjaer’s part in it is history, of course.

Two decades on, he is plotting another great escape for United —one that has been made all the more improbable by a lengthening injury list and the absence of Paul Pogba through suspension.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to invoke memories of the comeback in Turin 20 years ago. United famously came back from two goals down to go through against Juventus. United fought back and will need to do the same against Paris in the Champions League

Depleted United must overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain — Solskjaer’s only reverse in 16 games as caretaker boss — to reach the quarter-finals.

The Norwegian knows the odds are against him but will draw on the spirit of Turin in an attempt to pull off his greatest win yet as manager.

‘I have to say that we really felt invincible,’ said Solskjaer of Sir Alex Ferguson’s team. ‘The belief is here now. Our players know what we are capable of and we have spoken about it.

‘They know that they are part of a special club that can do something like this. We are not going to go there and lay down. We are going to give it a go.’

Recalling that famous night at the Stadio delle Alpi, he added: ‘Juventus scored two to go 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes and suddenly you think you’re out.

‘But as soon as we got that one goal away from home, we were in the ascendancy. When we got the score to 2-2, suddenly we were through and they had to panic.

‘So that’s it for us. We have to get goals in the game. If we get an early one, then suddenly we’re in with a shout. We know it is going to be difficult and we’ve got loads of injuries, but there are a few boys who will want to be part of it.’

Solskjaer confirmed he does not expect any of United’s absentees to return in time.

The knee-ligament injury sustained by Alexis Sanchez against Southampton took the total out to 10, and the manager is reluctant to risk Anthony Martial before United go to Arsenal on Sunday looking to consolidate their place in the top four. Unless Solskjaer is bluffing, his midfield diamond at the Parc des Princes could feasibly be Scott McTominay, Fred, Diogo Dalot and Andreas Pereira.

At least United go into the game buoyed by another stirring display under their interim manager. Southampton played their part in a terrific match and scored spectacular goals through Yan Valery and James Ward-Prowse.

But it is symptomatic of the new order under Solskjaer that Pereira and Romelu Lukaku, two players who have been criticised more than most, led the fightback.

Pereira’s first Premier League goal was a pearler and Lukaku’s dramatic 88th-minute winner meant he had scored twice for the second time in four days.

‘He has responded fantastically to everyone who wants to criticise him, because there is no one who practises finishing as much as he does,’ said Solskjaer.

Despite having a late spot-kick saved by Angus Gunn, Pogba has his manager’s backing to remain as United’s first-choice penalty taker. Just not in Paris on Wednesday.

PSG V UNITED: YOUR GUIDE TO THE BIG GAME

Manchester United will be looking to overturn a two-goal deficit and reach the Champions League quarter-finals when we play the second leg of our last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

The Reds are trailing in the tie after second-half goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe at Old Trafford in the first leg three weeks ago.

It will be a tough task at Parc des Princes but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who have won a club-record seven away games in a row, can take inspiration from our stunning comeback victory against Southampton on Saturday and the fact we beat Chelsea 2-0 away from home last month.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the match…

HOW CAN I FOLLOW THE GAME?

The match kicks off at 20:00 GMT on Wednesday. MUTV subscribers will be able to watch live build-up on ‘Match Day’ from 18:30 GMT, followed by live radio commentary and post-match reaction. You can also follow the action on ManUtd.com and in the Official App, which you can download here.

WHAT'S THE TEAM NEWS?

United will be without Paul Pogba, who is suspended for the trip to his homeland after picking up two yellow cards in the first leg three weeks ago. With Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic expected to miss the game though injury, Scott McTominay, Fred and Andreas Pereira will all be in contention for a place. Ahead of them, Alexis Sanchez looks likely to miss Wednesday’s match after he picked up a knee injury during the 3-2 win against Southampton. Ole has also confirmed that Anthony Martial may well be unavailable for the clash, after injuring his hamstring against Liverpool. Juan Mata has already suggested in his weekly blog that he will not feature in the French capital and Jesse Lingard is also set to remain sidelined. However, in more positive news, the Reds will be able to call upon Marcus Rashford at the Parc de Princes after the striker recovered from an ankle injury to play 90 minutes against Southampton on Saturday.

WHAT ABOUT PSG?

The French champions remain without talismanic striker Neymar due to a metatarsal injury suffered during their Coupe de France victory over Strasbourg in January. Fellow forward Edinson Cavani missed the game at Old Trafford due to a hip injury and, while the Parisians hope to have the Uruguayan back in training before the clash, it remains unlikely that he will start on Wednesday night. Thomas Meunier was out between 9 and 26 February with a head injury but returned to score the third goal in their 3-0 French Cup quarter-final win over Dijon.

HOW ARE PSG GETTING ON?

While we may have only just moved into March, it is safe to say that Thomas Tuchel’s men will go on to be crowned French champions for the sixth time in seven seasons. They currently sit 17 points ahead of Lille at the top of the Ligue 1 table with a game in hand and have lost just three of the 40 competitive matches they have played so far this season. On Saturday, they continued their impressive run with a 2-1 victory away at Caen, thanks to a double from Kylian Mbappe. PSG have won their last eight games in all competitions, keeping six clean sheets during that run and scoring 20 goals.

ONE TO WATCH

French prodigy Kylian Mbappe has continued to show his world-class ability this season. Despite being only 20 years of age, the World Cup winner is the Parisians’ top scorer this season, with an incredible 29 goals in 32 games in all competitions. Scorer of the second against the Reds in the first leg, Mbappe has netted seven goals in his last five games in all competitions in total.

WHAT'S OUR RECORD AGAINST FRENCH CLUBS?

United boast an impressive record against French opponents, suffering just three defeats in 29 matches against 10 different clubs. The first meeting was an impressive 5-0 aggregate thrashing of Strasbourg in the old Fairs Cup back in 1965. To younger Reds, the standout performance will be the 4-0 victory over Saint Etienne at Old Trafford during our triumphant Europa League campaign in the 2016/17 season, when Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his one and only hat-trick for United.

Re: [UCL] Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester United

EARLY TEAM NEWS AHEAD OF UNITED'S TRIP TO PARIS

Manchester United will be without Paul Pogba for Wednesday night’s Champions last-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain, and Anthony Martial is also a major doubt, with the French side 2-0 up from the first leg.

The France midfielder, Pogba, is suspended for the trip to his homeland after he picked up two yellow cards during the game at Old Trafford three weeks ago, and was sent off.

It is a huge blow for the Reds and Pogba has missed just one game (the Emirates FA Cup third-round win against Reading) since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed caretaker manager in December.

Despite that, the boss believes he has enough quality in his squad to upset the French champions.

“This club has had so many great comebacks,” said Ole. “But we have got eight straight away wins, so we are confident away from home. If we are in the game with 20 to 30 minutes to go, then who knows.”

With Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic expected to miss the game through injury, Scott McTominay, Fred and Andreas Pereira will all be in contention for a place.

Ahead of them, Alexis Sanchez looks likely to miss Wednesday’s match after he picked up a knee injury during the 3-2 win against Southampton.

Ole has also confirmed that Martial may well be unavailable for the clash, after injuring his hamstring against Liverpool. “I don’t think we can risk it,” the Norwegian said at the weekend. “He has not been training yet, so I don’t think so.”

He could start up front up with in-form hitman Romelu Lukaku, who has netted four times in his last two games for the Reds.

At the back, Ole has selected the same defence in the last four outings, and could be tempted to make it five in a row in the French capital.

Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have formed the manager’s preferred line-up in recent weeks, but Eric Bailly started in the first leg and there is the option of a switch in formation to accommodate three central defenders.

Behind the defence, David De Gea is expected to make his 30th Champions League appearance for United.

PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel has suggested Edinson Cavani will miss the second leg due to injury, joining Neymar on the sidelines. Stanley N'Soki and Sebastien Cibois are also being considered as doubts.

Commenting on Pogba's suspension, Tuchel told reporters in France at the weekend: “Others say that Paul Pogba is missing and it will be fine. We must find the middle ground between these two views. We cannot play with fear nor with too much confidence.”

Marquinhos, who was captain against Caen on Saturday with Thiago Silva rested, added: “We cannot think that we have done the hard bit. We cannot fall into the trap of thinking it will be easy. We have to approach this match with the same intensity, the same attitude as Old Trafford.”

Star striker Kylian Mbappe, who scored twice on Saturday, added: ”The coach insisted on winning this match to prepare for the visit of Manchester, that's what we did. We will come home, rest and prepare well for the important match which awaits us on Wednesday.“

Berdoa yang terbaik saja, siapa tahu pemain lapis kedua yang diturunkan malah bisa memberikan kejutan :)
