Default Re: [2015/16] United Player and Goal of the Year

Louis van Gaal: “Yes of course it’s nice to see all the people it is a special event and it’s for the foundation. It’s a nice evening.
“It is the most valued prize for a player because your fellow player knows more about your attitude and form than a fan or even a manager.
“I’m always positive. I said it was possible Southampton would beat City and it was disappointing we did not beat Leicester. But still we are in the race of qualifying for the Champions League. It is very important for the fans and the players.
“For a manager winning a title is much more important but I am manager of Manchester United, for United it is much more important to play in the Champions League. And it is still possible. We have to win the last three matches and I said that before the match against Leicester City.”

Van Gaal on development

“I have seen a lot of players that are developing and I think it’s a good way of showing your professionalism to the outside world. David de Gea has his qualities but I think every player has contributed to the success of the season.”

Van Gaal on youngsters

“We can be proud and the fans can be proud of the youngsters.
“I came to England to win a title and I hope that I but more our players, that we win the title of the FA Cup and I hope we shall enjoy, having seen it already in the semi-final.”

Van Gaal on 'sacking' stories

“I’m a coach, a manager who would rather have some authority but every day the players can read it, what do you think about my authority as well? What do you think about the way they want to follow my advice? When the coach is shown like a nobody. And I am not what the media is writing because I am very arrogant, because I am one of the best managers in the world.”

Herrera on goal of the season: “I think it is Marcus Rashford’s, away at West Ham [in last month’s FA Cup semi-final replay]. It was a very good goal, and a crucial one too!”

Smalling reacts

Smalling: “It’s a massive honour to win this award, as voted by the players. Some big names have won this, so to add my name to that list is a huge honour.”

Notice A.Pereira is not allowed to wear a tux. Seems to be regarded as an U21 player (Borthwick-Jackson, Rashford and Januzaj are in tuxes).

Rashford & Gribbin
Warren Joyce on U21s

“The main aim is to get boys into the first-team.
“We’ve limped over the line with no forwards but every credit to the boys, who’ve been grinding results out.”

Irwin on De Gea

“We could see a bit of history here tonight with a player winning the Player of the Year for the third time in a row. David is so important to the team and the fans obviously think of him very highly.”

Van Gaal on De Gea

“Everyone knows he was invited to Madrid. His girlfriend is living in Madrid, his parents, Spanish, Real Madrid is a great club but he is still here and as a manager I am so happy he is here and he deserves to win this title.”

De Gea reacts

“It’s difficult to say something, to win three years in a row is amazing, I’m really happy. It’s an honour and I want to say thank you to every, I think we have some of the best fans in the world - thank you to everyone.”

And on the Lukaku penalty save:

“It was a great save, a really important save. In training, they took 10 penalties and I didn’t save one! You have to be there in the important moments, I saved it and I’m really happy for that.”

Rashford speaks

“It’s been a bit crazy, it’s difficult to take in.
“It worked in my favour because I wasn’t thinking about the game too much, so I didn’t have to think about it.
“It means a lot. I’m Manchester born. It’s what dreams are made of.
“It’s important I have to thank all my coaching staff, Nicky Butt, Warren Joyce, and my family.”

Borthwick-Jackson speaks

“It’s a huge honour for me, winning this award, it’s what dreams are made of.
“I’ve managed to come up through every age group, so it’s a dream for me.
“I don’t really get nervous, I know it’s hard to say, but I just block the crowd out and get on with the game. It’s what you’re paid to do”
“It’s a huge honour for myself, the last few times I’ve come here, I’ve challenged myself to win this award and it’s just been an incredible season for me.
“My main objective this year was to cement an Under-21s place, but now I’m hungry for more!
“(My debut) was a dream come true. Just unbelievable. An amazing feeling for me.
“No nerves, just got straight into the game, that’s my character really. I don’t get nervous. It’s hard to say.”
