Default Re: [EPL] Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal

'The lack of quality is frightening': Roy Keane not impressed by 'shocking' draw between Manchester United and Arsenal and says he doesn't expect either team to break back into top four

* Manchester United and Arsenal played out a lacklustre draw at Old Trafford
* Roy Keane couldn't believe how bad the first half was between the two sides
* Things didn't improve in the second-half as he bemoaned the lack of quality
* Manchester United took the lead through Scott McTominay before the break
* Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled after VAR overturned an offside call

Roy Keane hit out at the 'shocking' draw between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday night after describing the lack of quality as 'frightening'.

It took a staggering 28 minutes for either side to have a shot on goal in the first half – the longest wait for a first attempt in a single Premier League game this season – before Scott McTominay broke the deadlock with a thunderous effort on the stroke of half-time.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang drew Arsenal level in the second-half, only after VAR had overturned an offside call in the process, with both sides sharing the spoils.

But Keane was in no mood for niceties as he bemoaned the declining standards of what was once a flagship game in the competition.

'We've been watching it and we can't believe how bad it is,' Keane said at half-time on Sky Sports.

'There's been a lack of quality, players seem to be struggling to keep their feet, lot of yellow cards, no real discipline. But the lack of quality is frightening, really.'

While Keane was hugely critical of both sides for their first-half performance, the former United skipper praised McTominay for displaying the only real bit of quality in what was a woeful first 45 minutes at the Theatre of Dreams.

Roy Keane has admitted that he can't believe 'how bad' the first half at Old Trafford was. Keane believes that neither side have the quality to finish in the top four this season

'The one bit of quality we've seen in the whole half – fantastic strike,' Keane added. 'It was shocking for the first 40 minutes.'

Even former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas couldn't resist having a dig at the quality as he asked his followers to try and find positives about the game.

The Monaco man tweeted: 'Thoughts on the game so far without using a bad word? Try to be creative.'

At full-time co-commentator Gary Neville claimed the second-half had been an improvement, but Keane was not impressed back in the studio.

'Gary must've been watching a different game, I thought the second half was shocking – really poor.

'Arsenal responded well but United will be kicking themselves as Arsenal were there for the taking. Not too many positives.'

On the evidence of Monday night, the former United captain believes both clubs will struggle to secure Champions League qualification next season.

When asked who will finish in the top four, he replied: 'On tonight's performance – none of them.

'United have to invest but on tonight's performance, it would be West Ham and Leicester to break in.'

Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal have the edge due to their wealth of attacking talent.

'I'll say Arsenal because there's more goals in them with Lacazette and Aubameyang, he said.

'United are forever known for flying wingers but always a massive goal threat, I don't see it changing. Have they got the players to be clinical? I don't think they have.'
