Default Re: Man United U-21 Matches 2015/16

Manchester United U21s 3-1 Everton U21s: James Wilson and Jesse Lingard on target for hosts in victory

* James Weir put Manchester United Under 21s ahead on 16 minutes
* James Wilson doubled the hosts' lead with a low striker six minutes later
* United went 3-0 ahead shortly after half-time thanks to Jesse Lingard
* Everton's Callum Dyson pulled one back on 78 minutes with a header

Manchester United first-team members James Wilson and Jesse Lingard made their presence felt as their Under 21 side swept aside their Everton counterparts on Monday night.

The duo and James Weir were all on target as the Red Devils won 3-1 at the Leigh Sports Village in their Barclays Under 21 Premier League encounter.

United U21 boss Warren Joyce handed goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, Lingard and Wilson their first competitive outings this season - with all three impressing.

And it was the latter who made the first telling contribution of the match - providing the assist for the opening goal on 17 minutes.

Wilson, who is highly-rated within Old Trafford, played a neat one-two with Weir which ended with the midfielder finishing coolly past Mateusz Hewelt.

Wilson soon found himself on the scoresheet six minutes later when he ran at the heart of the Everton defence before shooting low into the bottom corner Hewelt's net.

The visitors rallied back towards the end of the first half and came close to pulling one back when David Henen's goalbound header was brilliantly denied by Johnstone.

And the Toffees were to rue that missed chance after the interval as United came out of the traps quickly to extend their lead.

Lingard, who was named captain by Joyce, added a third on 52 minutes with a curling effort after dashing into the Everton penalty area.

Weir failed to make it 4-0 when he wasted a one-on-one opportunity and it was the visitors who grabbed the fourth goal of the match - albeit a consolation.

Callum Dyson pulled one back on 78 minutes for the Merseysiders with a header at the far post from a Jonjoe Kenny cross - but United held out for victory.
