Milk Cup off to good start
United opened their Milk Cup campaign with a 4-0 victory against FC Zamora in Northern Ireland.
Paul McGuinness' teenagers proved too strong for the Venezuelans with Mats Daehli performing well in midfield and earning the acclaim of the crowd for some of his passing.
Gyliano van Velzen got the ball rolling after seven minutes when heading home after Tom Lawrence's shot was parried out. Jack Barmby doubled the lead six minutes after the break (the matches are 35 minutes each-way) when lashing a great strike high into the net following a fine pass by Lawrence.
Zamora were reduced to 10 men and the Reds took full advantage with two goals in three minutes. James Weir produced a piece of skill in midfield that Wayne Rooney would be proud of and schoolboy James Wilson profited by rounding the keeper to slip home.
Kenji Gorre completed the rout soon afterwards with a header following some fine strength and approach play by van Velzen down the right.
United: Coll; Hendrie (Weir), Blackett, Ekangamene, McCullough; Rudge, van Velzen, Barmby (Wilson), Daehli (Gorre), Pearson (Rothwell), Lawrence.
