Default Re: [UCL] Manchester United 3-0 FC Basel

Manchester United 3-0 Basle - PLAYER RATINGS: Marouane Fellaini stars off the bench and Romelu Lukaku's fine start to the season continues

* Jose Mourinho's United hit three past visitors Basle at Old Trafford
* Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford were on the scoresheet
* While midfielder and captain Paul Pogba was forced off injured early on

Manchester United were cool as can be under the pressure of their return to the Champions League, easing past Basle 3-0.

Marouane Fellaini was the first to strike a blow with a first-half header before goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford sealed the perfect start for United.

Sportsmail's JACK GAUGHAN is on hand to bring you the player ratings.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1)

DAVID DE GEA - 7

Add another stunning save to his list after athletically thwarting Mohamed Elyounoussi at 2-0.

ASHLEY YOUNG - 7

Wonderful ball in for Marouane Fellaini’s opener and never lets United down.

VICTOR LINDELOF - 6

Stood up tall when Basle ran at him and strong distribution. Can get in a tangle positionally.

CHRIS SMALLING - 6.5

Just the one uncertain moment via a misplaced clearance after a month on the bench.

DALEY BLIND - 6

Good cross for Romelu Lukaku’s goal, although did get sucked in by Basle on occasion.

NEMANJA MATIC - 7

Seems to control midfield every week. United’s heartbeat and reads the game imperiously.

PAUL POGBA - 6

Captain in Antonio Valencia’s absence but forced off with a hamstring problem after 19 minutes.

JUAN MATA - 7

Feels more willing to break beyond the striker and did enough creatively to warrant starting.

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN - 6.5

Desperately needs a goal. Fluffed two huge opportunities in the first half but general play was encouraging.

ANTHONY MARTIAL - 6

One mazy run after the break which lifted Old Trafford but currently appears better from the bench.

ROMELU LUKAKU - 7.5

Just can’t keep him out of games. Another goal (his sixth) to add to a growing collection.

And Romelu Lukaku also got in on the act with his first Champions League goal for United

SUBS

MAROUANE FELLAINI (for Pogba, 19) - 8

Jose Mourinho feels ‘weak’ without him and Fellaini silenced the naysayers again. Goal and an assist.

The Belgian headed in a first-half goal in United's Champions League opener against Basle

JESSE LINGARD (for Martial, 69) - 6

Some much-needed minutes for Lingard, who scurried off the bench.

MARCUS RASHFORD (for Mata, 77)

Had only been on a matter of moments before scoring the third.

Marcus Rashford needed just six minutes to put his stamp on the game with a late goal

Subs not used: Romero, Carrick, Valencia, Darmian

MANAGER: JOSE MOURINHO - 7

Six changes and maximum points - a positive night apart from Pogba.

REF: RUDDY BUQUET (Fra) - 6.5

Allowed the game to flow where possible with minimal fuss.
