Jose Mourinho has kept Louis van Gaal appointment Marcel Bout on at Manchester United as the club's scouting overhaul continues.

Marcel Bout has been appointed as Manchester United's new head of global scouting as Jose Mourinho continues to overhaul the club's network and transfer policy.

Bout, 53, arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 as Louis van Gaal's opposition scout and is the only member of the Dutchman's backroom staff to have remained at the club.

Van Gaal's first-team coach Albert Stuivenberg, goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek and performance analyst Max Reckers all departed with the former United manager in May, while ex-assistant manager Ryan Giggs' 28-year association with the club ended in July.

United requested Bout continue at the club, a situation he encountered at Bayern Munich when Van Gaal was sacked in 2011. He eventually left the five-times European Cup winners to link up with the Netherlands Under-21s in 2012.

Former Dundee United defender Armand Benneker has also joined United's scouting network, which is in the process of an overhaul instigated by Mourinho.

Bout was spotted in the directors' box during the Manchester derby last month and has been in attendance for every Old Trafford game since.

Benneker, 47, is based in Austria and was previously the first-team scout at Swiss club FC St. Gallen and spent six years of his playing career in the Netherlands.

Mourinho's appointment coincided with the overhaul of United's scouting network, sparked by the academy revamp, and it is understood one long-time French scout is being eased out.

It did not go unnoticed France have produced some fine wingers yet United signed Memphis (Anthony Martial was bought as a striker). Mourinho has already prioritised signing Antoine Griezmann next summer.
