The defence of Manchester United's under 21 title began with a 1-1 draw at Leicester on Monday, with Guillermo Varela claiming a point for Warren Joyce's side.
Leicester took the lead after 22 minutes thanks to an own goal by Ashley Edwards following a challenge on forward Leonardo Ulloa by Donald Love.
But the hosts could only hold on to their lead for 11 minutes.

Varela, who was the first signing made at United by David Moyes, hauled his team level with an impressive individual effort.
He capitalised upon weak defending from Leicester man Ben Chilwell and broke into the penalty area before placing a shot beyond the reach of goalkeeper Jonny Maddison.
But United were unable to add to Varela's strike.
Leicester had the better if proceedings in the second half and had goalkeeper Joel Pereira to thank for even honours at the King Power Stadium.
