Default Re: Man United U-21 Matches 2015/16

RESERVES : MANCHESTER UNITED 4 OLDHAM 0

Manchester United cruised into the Manchester Senior Cup semi-finals with a 4-0 victory over Oldham Athletic at the Aon Training Complex.

Andreas Pereira handed the Reserves the lead and Adnan Januzaj struck twice more before half-time. Regan Poole, with his first goal for the club, wrapped things up in the 77th minute.

Donald Love, playing in midfield, almost opened the scoring when good work by Joe Rothwell and Januzaj created an opening but David Cornell pulled off a fine one-handed save. However, two minutes later, Cornell made a misplaced clearance that was ruthlessly punished by Pereira, who found the net with a first-time effort from distance.

Four minutes later, Januzaj showed great skill to drag the ball back and unleashed a ferocious drive that flew past Cornell to ram home the advantage. The over-worked Cornell made three saves in quick succession, most notably to deny Demi Mitchell after he initially parried a Januzaj free-kick. More fine work by Rothwell and Januzaj led to Andreas Pereira firing over the bar and Cornell made an unusual save with his chest to beat out another Januzaj piledriver.

Januzaj did get his second moments before the break when converting with ease after being teed up by the industrious Love as another slick move carved opened the visitors' defence. Oldham rallied in the second period but were fortunate when centre-back Poole was off target from a Januzaj corner.

Rhys Murphy lashed an effort over the bar for the Latics and Joel Pereira gifted the ball to Joe Mills but redeemed himself by pulling off a smart block. Andreas Pereira kept Cornell on his toes with a low drive and the fourth goal arrived when Paddy McNair challenged for Januzaj's corner. The ball dropped to Poole, who produced an accurate shot with the assistant referee ruling it had crossed the line before being hacked away, which certainly appeared to be the case from first viewing.

Danny Byrnes forced another save out of Joel Pereira but United ran out comfortable victors to set up a last-four tie with Bury.

United : J. Pereira; El Fitouri, McNair, Poole, Riley; Love, McTominay (Reid 71); A. Pereira, Rothwell (Kehinde 54), Mitchell (Warren 56); Januzaj.
Subs: Henderson, Scott.
