Default Re: [EPL] West Ham United vs Manchester United

Van Gaal : Specialist will aid selection

Louis van Gaal will consult his fatigue specialist before finalising his line-up for Manchester United's crunch Barclays Premier League clash at West Ham tonight (Tuesday, 19:45 BST kick-off).

The Reds boss appreciates the importance of the game but will not risk anybody struggling for fitness, with Anthony Martial a doubt after withdrawing from the side that beat Norwich City during the warm-up. Marcus Rashford and Daley Blind were omitted at the weekend due to a recent overload of match action.

"That's always dependable on the data of my fatigue specialist," he explained, when asked if he could rest other players at Upton Park.

"The day after recovery, we have to travel already. So I have to decide then on the data of my fatigue specialist, who I am taking with me. It is always like that. It can happen that I leave players at home too."

Martial netted against the Hammers in the Emirates FA Cup tie at Old Trafford and assisted both goals in the replay victory last month.

"We have to wait to see if his muscle is still tight," van Gaal said of his top scorer. "I don't take any risks as he's a very important player. We don't want a rupture because he's very important to us."

West Ham are planning an emotional farewell to their home but United require three points to ensure victory over Bournemouth on the final day will clinch a top-four place and the chance to play in next season's Champions League.

"We have to play against an opponent who says goodbye to the stadium so they don't want to lose in their own stadium," the manager told reporters at the weekend.

"They have already lost to Manchester United in their last FA Cup match there so that is also history. So it's not good for us and West Ham are a very good team, I think, a very good team.

"There is no motivation to spoil the party because we have a lot of respect for West Ham. I think it's a historical, big club in England and in the Premier League so we don't want to spoil their party. But we need three points and that's different."
