Default Re: Dean Henderson

Dean Henderson set for talks with Manchester United next week and the Chelsea target is ready to return to Old Trafford if he is assured of being first choice ahead of under-fire Spaniard David de Gea

* Pressure is growing on the Spaniard after another howler against Chelsea
* Man United will also discuss an improved contract for Henderson next week

Manchester United will hold talks with Dean Henderson next week as the pressure grows on under-fire goalkeeper David de Gea.

Henderson is ready to return to Old Trafford next season after two years on loan at Sheffield United if he is assured of being the club's No 1 keeper.

The ambitious 23-year-old has no intention of acting as back-up for De Gea, who is under scrutiny after another calamitous display in United's 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final.

It has put renewed pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop De Gea, and placed a question mark over the 29-year-old Spaniard's long-term future at the club.

That could open the door for highly-rated Henderson, who will play his final game for Sheffield United on Sunday before his representatives meet Old Trafford officials next week.

They will discuss improving the £35,000-a-week contract Henderson signed a year ago to reflect his recent progress amid interest from Chelsea.

The two sides will also look at the England Under 21 keeper's next move because he hopes to challenge for a senior squad place at next summer's Euros.

Manchester United will hold talks with Dean Henderson next week about a return to the club. The news comes amid growing pressure on current first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea. De Gea's error against Chelsea has put renewed pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop him. Man United will also discuss an improvement on Henderson's current United deal next week

Sheffield United want Henderson back, but he is keen to play at a higher level as long as he is first choice.

The prospect of replacing De Gea at United hinges on whether Solskjaer continues to support the former Atletico Madrid keeper or calls time on his Old Trafford career after more than 400 appearances.

Another obstacle would be finding a club willing to sign De Gea and match the £375,000-a-week deal he signed last September. That contract still has three years to run.

However, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was in no mood to discuss where Henderson would be playing next season after his side's defeat to Everton.

'I'm not interested in talking about an individual tonight,' Wilder told Sky Sports, having seen Toffees striker Richarlison deliver a massive blow to the Blades' European hopes with the only goal of the game.

Several pundits have however called on De Gea to be dropped after his Wembley clanger.

Alan Shearer was the most vociferous first all, insisting on BBC One that the persistent nature of the mistakes means United must now put the Spaniard out of his misery.

United icon Paul Ince also laid into the 29-year-old for making 'schoolboy errors' and for having lost his hunger, while Kevin Campbell believes his mistake for Mason Mount's goal on Sunday should now open the door for Henderson.
