Default Re: [2017 Pre Season] Real Salt Lake vs Manchester United

TOUR 2017 PREVIEW: REAL SALT LAKE V UNITED

So, one down, six to go...
Yes, and after Manchester United kicked off Tour 2017, presented by Aon, with an impressive 5-2 win over LA Galaxy on Saturday, the Reds return to action against another MLS opponent in Real Salt Lake on Monday (17 July). As well as an opportunity to make it two victories from two games, our first-ever trip to Utah represents a valuable pre-season test for both Jose Mourinho and his players ahead of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign. Kick-off at the 20,000-capacity Rio Tinto Stadium is scheduled for 20:00 local time (03:00 BST on Tuesday 18 July).

How can I watch it?
Fans who subscribe to the club’s MUTV app or online at the recently launched mutv.com will have access to watch all of the team’s pre-season games. With no extra cost to subscribers, fans can watch all seven of United’s tour games live. The app is available to download in over 160 countries across the world - check it out via the Apple or Google Play app stores, or subscribe online at mutv.com.

What happened in our opening game? Well, as mentioned, preparations could hardly have got off to a better start, following that comfortable victory at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles. Marcus Rashford (2), Marouane Fellaini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial all found the net for United in front of a number of famous faces, while summer signings Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku made their unofficial debuts for the club. As well as our new additions, fans were also afforded a first look at the new adidas home kit for 2017/18, which was unveiled at the start of the month.

What's the team news for this one?
On Saturday, Mourinho opted to name a different side for each half of United's win over LA Galaxy, and is likely to do the same here, as he and his coaching staff continue to assess the squad. The boss deployed a back three for the opening game of pre-season, but later revealed to MUTV that he will switch to a more familiar back four. "Players will be playing in different positions and thinking football in a different way, and being organised in a different way. We are also going to play with four at the back," he said. "We will work with the same principle - 45 and 45 minutes and, if there is a chance to give five or 10 minutes to another kid, it’s always good for them." One player who will definitely be given some game time is goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who signed a new long-term contract with the Reds at the weekend.

Who are our opponents? There's little doubt that Monday's match will hold a special significance for Real Salt Lake. The American club were only founded 13 years ago and will surely relish the occasion, having faced Real Madrid, Everton and Inter Milan in recent years. Real currently sit ninth in the MLS Western Conference standings, two points behind our first opponents, LA Galaxy, and just two above the foot of the table. While their players may be unfamiliar to fans in England, they do have an Englishman in their ranks. Midfielder Luke Mulholland was born in Preston, just 33 miles from Old Trafford.

Are we back in black tonight? We are indeed! After the Reds' new adidas home kit made its debut at the weekend, Monday's match will see our 2017/18 away kit worn on the pitch for the first time. Launched back in May, it is available to buy from adidas and official club stores, including United Direct.

I'm predicting another win... Great - we've got just the competition for you. We're inviting fans to guess the final score, first goalscorer and goal time, possession and the number of red/yellow cards ahead of Real Salt Lake v United. For every correct prediction, we'll enter you into the ballot to win a team signed 2017/18 home shirt! Visit ManUtd.com/tourpredictor for details.
