On this day in Premier League history: 11 October
Looking back at Barclays Premier League history, we recall the defender joining Wimbledon
11 October 1999 - Wimbledon bring Hreidarsson back to Selhurst Park
Wimbledon signed Hermann Hreidarsson from London neighbours Brentford, bringing the Iceland defender back to both the Barclays Premier League and Selhurst Park.
Hreidarsson, who played at left-back or centre-half, had moved to the Bees 13 months previously from Selhurst Park's landlords Crystal Palace, who were relegated in the defender's first Barclays Premier League campaign.
After his move to the Dons,*Hreidarsson established himself as a regular in Wimbledon's side, amassing 24 BPL appearances in the 1999/00 campaign, but the Dons were consigned to the drop in what proved to be their last top-flight season.
Hreidarsson stayed in the BPL by moving to Ipswich Town in August 2000 after the Tractor Boys had been promoted from the Championship, and he played 36 times as they earned an unlikely fifth place and qualification for the UEFA Cup.
They struggled to replicate their remarkable exploits the following campaign and went down, the third of five BPL relegations Hreidarsson suffered.
His longest stint in the top flight came at his next club, Charlton Athletic. The defender amassed 132 Barclays Premier League appearances during four seasons from 2003 to 2007.
Despite relegation in May 2007, the defender remained in the BPL when he joined Portsmouth and was a regular as the south coast club won the 2008 FA Cup final and an eighth-place finish that season.
Hreidarsson moved to League One side Coventry City in 2012 with Portsmouth in the Championship and the defender, who won 89 caps for Iceland, then returned to his homeland to play for Fylkir.
