Default Re: [UCL] Manchester United 1-2 Sevilla

Romelu Lukaku says Manchester United players went 'hiding' during Champions League exit to Sevilla

* Romelu Lukaku scored a consolation as Manchester United lost 2-1 on Tuesday
* He suggested that United did not deserve to progress to the quarter-finals
* Lukaku also admitted that the dressing room was a quiet place after the game

Romelu Lukaku has accused some of his Manchester United team-mates of 'hiding' during their 2-1 loss against Sevilla.

The Old Trafford club exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage courtesy of two goals from Wissam Ben Yedder. Lukaku scored a consolation late on but it was not enough to rescue his side.

And the Belgian striker believes that United simply did not 'deserve' to progress to the quarter-finals.

He told BT Sport: 'Some things were flawed with some players, some players were hiding. The deception was really big, because you know I think we started the game well, and then we started to let them have control in the game.

'Then we had a few half chances but we didn't really score, and then they scored the first goal.

'From that moment on we tried to chase the game and they scored the second one which was a big blow. At the end we kept pushing but it was not enough.

'We should have done better because the bit of quality we have in the team, we should have went through. We didn't deserve it because we weren't good enough.'

Lukaku's goal in the 84th minute managed to lift the crowd at Old Trafford.

It was too little, too late though, and Lukaku himself thinks United needed to score before Sevilla to quell the visitors.

'We should have scored earlier, maybe in the first-half with the half chances we created,' he continued. 'The last pass today was not good enough.

'We always get in the right position but the ball to each other was not good enough, and that is what killed us today.'

Jose Mourinho and his players now turn their attentions to the FA Cup. They are into the quarter-finals in that competition.

Even so, the 24-year-old admitted his disappointment at their early exit in Europe and admitted the dressing room was quiet post-match: 'Not hiding, but I mean in the dressing room, because some people were disappointed with the result because we expected better from ourselves.

'We know we have a lot of quality in the team but today we didn't show it. So, it was difficult for us. We have to bounce back, we have one trophy to chase, and that's the FA Cup.

'But we wanted to go very far in the Champions League because that's what a club like Manchester United need to do, and we didn't do it today so we're very disappointed.'
