Default Re: [Pre-season] Kitchee FC vs Manchester United

Profile: Kitchee FC

Manchester United will end this year's pre-season visit to Asia with a friendly against Kitchee FC...

Date
Monday 29 July 2013. Kick-off: 20:00 local time, 13:00 BST.

Location
Hong Kong Stadium, Hong Kong.

Tickets
All tickets have now been sold.

The opposition
Kitchee FC was founded in 1931 in Hong Kong. The club has won the League Championship and the Senior Shield five times, the League Cup Championship three times and the FA Cup Championship twice. Kitchee has also demonstrated great success in youth development having worked with Barcelona since 2008.

Head coach
Since 2009, Kitchee has established a tradition of employing coaches from Barcelona's youth programme. Kitchee's current head coach is Alex Gomez who joined from Barcelona's youth academy. Prior to that, Josep Gombau was in charge for four years (after spending eight years at Barcelona) but recently left to take over Adelaide United in Australia.

Last season
After a spate of long-term injuries during the middle of the season, Kitchee flourished as the campaign headed towards its climax and claimed the HK FA Cup for the second successive season, progressed to the quarter-finals of the 2013 AFC Cup (to be played in September) and qualified for the 2014 AFC Cup. Kitchee also finished as first runners-up in the Hong Kong League after winning it in the previous two seasons.

Did you know?
The Reds' last visit to Hong Kong, in July 2005, ended in a 2-0 win to United after goals from Giuseppe Rossi and Dong Fangzhuo.
