Default Re: Man United U-18 Matches 2015/16

Next match tanggal 20 Februari 2016 lawan West Brom di AON Training Complex

U18S : MANCHESTER UNITED 1 MANCHESTER CITY

Barclays Under-18 Premier League | 17 February 2016 | Aon Training Complex | Scorers: Nmecha (42'), Whelan (64')

Manchester United Under-18s came from behind to rescue a point against Manchester City in an entertaining Academy derby on Wednesday afternoon.

City's top scorer Lukas Nmecha opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time with a well-taken effort, but Callum Whelan was in the right place to fire United level with 25 minutes remaining.

The Reds made two changes to the side that beat Stoke 2-0 at the weekend, and matched the league leaders in a tentative opening period at the Aon Training Complex.

Early on, both sides were eager to keep the ball in difficult weather conditions, but the visitors soon grew into the contest and created the first real chance on 14 minutes. Nmecha received the ball on the edge of the area and raced into the box, only to see his rising shot come back off the crossbar.

The Blues' Spanish midfielder Brahim Diaz - a constant thorn in United's side - then forced Oliver Byrne into a diving save, before the Reds goalkeeper thwarted Aaron Nemane's powerful shot moments later.

With United struggling to get into an attacking rhythm, the Blues had claims for a penalty on the half-hour mark rejected, after Nmecha went down under the challenge of Tyrell Warren.

The Reds' first opportunity came five minutes before the break, as DJ Buffonge latched onto a superb ball out of defence and teed up Callum Gribbin, whose dipping shot from 20 yards was straight down the throat of Daniel Grimshaw.

However, the visitors went ahead two minutes later as a defence-splitting pass found Nmecha who twisted and turned on the edge of the box before firing beyond Byrne.

The second half started as the first had ended, with the away side putting pressure on the United goal. The Reds again had Byrne to thank on 52 minutes, after pinball in the box allowed City's Rodney Kongolo a sight at goal. The Blues went even closer to a second shortly after, as Diaz's mazy run eventually resulted in him squaring the ball for Nmecha, but the striker's backheel struck the woodwork.

United were by no means out of the game though and had a rare attempt on goal through Zachary Dearnley with half an hour remaining, a chance which sparked life into the Reds. The equaliser came on 64 minutes, as Whelan pounced on a loose ball to sidefoot home after a goalmouth scramble.

City then had a glorious chance to produce a near-immediate response, when Nemane beat his defender and squared for the unmarked Nmecha, only for Byrne to get back and deny what looked a certain goal. There would be one final half-chance for the Blues but typically the ball ended up in the safe hands of Byrne, as the Reds held on for a share of the spoils.

The 1-1 draw ends City's seven-game winning streak and although it isn't enough to lift United off the bottom of the Academy Premier League North, it means the Reds are now unbeaten in two games after previously suffering a long run of defeats.

West Bromwich Albion will be United's next opponents, at the Aon Training Complex this Saturday, 20 February, when the Reds will look to build on this determined derby display. Kick-off is at 11:00 GMT with live coverage on MUTV.
