Default Re: [2018/19] UCL Matches

Champions League final between Liverpool and Spurs to be refereed by Slovenian Damir Skomina (and it could be bad news for Jurgen Klopp's side)

* UEFA's committee decided Damir Skomina will take charge of the final on June 1
* He was the man who overturned first ever Champions League goal using VAR
* Skomina awarded the penalty that saw Manchester United beat PSG in March

Slovenia’s Damir Skomina will referee the Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham — and it could be bad news for the Reds.

UEFA's referees committee decided that Skomina will take charge of the final on June 1. He made history this season by overturning the first ever Champions League goal using VAR.

But he has taken charge of five games featuring Liverpool and they lost the first four of those clashes.

They broke that run this season when they overcame Napoli in the Champions League 1-0.

Skomina has a long history with English sides — he took charge of England against Belgium at the World Cup and the defeat against Iceland at Euro 2016.

The Slovenian also took charge of the 2017 Europa League final between Manchester United and Ajax, which Jose Mourinho's side won.

The 42-year-old also officiated the 2012 Super Cup final between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. Atletico won that game 4-1 courtesy of a Radamel Falcao masterclass.

Skomina has refereed Chelsea this season and was also the man who awarded the controversial penalty that saw United beat PSG in the Champions League.

He will be assisted by compatriots Jure Praprotnik and Robert Vukan. The fourth official will be Antonio Mateu Lahoz from Spain.

Danny Makkelie will be the video assistant referee, with assistance from Pol van Boekel, Felix Zwayer, and Mark Borsch.
