Default Re: Marcus Rashford

'It's not a good development': Marcus Rashford's links to super agent Mino Raiola are bad news for Manchester United, says former Old Trafford coach Rene Meulensteen

* Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is being linked to agent Mino Raiola
* Raiola represents a host of top stars, such as Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic
* The Italian is thought to be keen on striking a deal to make Rashford his client
* But ex-United coach Rene Meulensteen says it would spell trouble for the club

Marcus Rashford being represented by super agent Mino Raiola would spell trouble for Manchester United, according to the club's former coach Rene Meulensteen.

The England international is in sensational form for the Red Devils this season, leading the scoring charts for the team with 19 goals, and the increasing profile of the player has reportedly seen him targeted by Raiola.

He already has a number of big names on his books, including United's Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and PSG's Marco Verratti.

Now there have been rumours that the Italian has met with Rashford's brothers Dane and Dwaine, who have their own agency.

But Meulensteen, who was a coach at the club for two spells between 2001 and 2006 and 2007 and 2013, says the news can only be a bad thing for United.

'It's really strange to me,' he told talkSPORT. 'Sometimes these agents get far too much control, but that's just how the system works unfortunately.

'It's crazy and it causes problems for managers. I think a club the size of Manchester United should be able to look after that themselves.'

Marcus Rashford is being linked to super agent Mino Raola, who represents some big names. Ex-United coach Rene Meulensteen is concerned that the deal would not benefit the club

There have been tense relations between United and Raiola and there was recent anger from the club after he linked up with another of their stars Jesse Lingard last week, having already had dealings with him through Pogba.

While Raiola has helped United by brokering deals for the likes of Henrikh Mhkitaryan, Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku in recent seasons, there was frustration after he and Erling Braut Haaland snubbed the club for Dortmund.

His comments have also irked the club, saying United are the reason Pogba has struggled to unleash his potential and adding that 'they would even ruin Maradona, Pele and Maldini'.

And Meulensteen believes Raiola getting his hands on a third United player would not suit the club as the Italian puts his own interests first.

'Pogba was already with him, but now Lingard is going and Rashford,' he added. 'It's not a good development in my opinion.

'His way is Raiola first and then the player, and not the interest of the club.'
