Default Re: United Academy Match

U18s: Blackburn 0 United 0

United's U18s left Brockhall Village with a point after a 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers at lunchtime on Saturday.

Reds striker John Cofie went closest to finding the net when he hit the post on 23 minutes after a clever ball over the Rovers defence from Ravel Morrison. Morrison perhaps should have done better with the rebound – he sliced a volley over the bar from close range when it looked easier to score.

Earlier, William Keane had sent a header straight at the Blackburn goalkeeper, while at the other end Sam Johnstone in the United goal was relatively quiet. In fact, he was only called into action on 63 minutes, saving well down low from distance.

Nicky Ajose, still looking for his first goal of the season, tried his luck from 25 yards on 75 minutes and forced a fine save from the Blackburn stopper before Keane hit the side-netting from an acute angle shortly afterwards.

But try as they might, Paul McGuinness' men couldn't force a winner.
