Default Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez agrees a four-and-a-half-year Manchester United contract worth £450,000 per week as Arsenal wantaway star is spotted in Mill Hill

* Alexis Sanchez's deal to Manchester United is imminent after agreeing terms * The wantaway Arsenal star will earn £269,000-a-week after tax at United
* Arsenal believe Henrikh Mkhitaryan will join them too as part of the deal

Manchester United have agreed to make Alexis Sanchez the club's highest ever earner in the biggest wages deal in Premier League history.

The Chile forward will earn:

£350,000 a week basic
£100,000 a week in image rights
£7.5million a year signing-on fee for four years

United will pay Arsenal £20m to sign the 29-year-old and a further £15m to his agent Fernando Felicevich. Sanchez's £450,000-a-week package is four times Harry Kane's earnings at Tottenham. Even after tax, Sanchez will take home more than £1m a month.

Arsenal forward Sanchez will join the Red Devils after agreeing a four-and-a-half year deal. The 29-year-old will become the club's highest earner on around £14million-a-year after tax

The signing could cost United around £170m for the four-and-a-half-year contract, which will put the pressure squarely on manager Jose Mourinho to deliver trophies.

United are working on completing this month's biggest transfer between Premier League clubs before travelling to play Burnley on Saturday. The deadline for new registrations is midday on Friday.

It makes Sanchez, who sources claim effectively 'checked out' at Arsenal almost a fortnight ago, the most expensive star in United's history, eclipsing the money lavished on Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season. The Swede earned £422,000 a week in wages and goal bonuses, which Sanchez is primed to top.

Mourinho sent a message to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over Christmas that United must continue to compete in the transfer market and that has been heeded.

Some of the Sanchez money must be recouped and Arsenal were on Wednesday night confident of thrashing out a deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, which now only hinges on personal terms.

Although the two transfers are linked, they do not form a swap deal. Mkhitaryan, 28, is open to a move to the Emirates but wants an increase on his £140,000-a-week wages at United and hopes to secure a long-term contract worth up to £200,000 a week.

Fellow Arsenal target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is waiting to seal his move from Dortmund, having made clear his desire to join Arsenal last week.

Sanchez was spotted in Mill Hill on Wednesday as he went to get his haircut Gentlemen's Grooming Salon called The Stag.

ArsenalFanTV star Troopz bumped into the forward during his trip and shared a selfie of the pair via his Snapchat account.

Default Re: Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has gone from humble beginnings to earning £600,000-a-week at Manchester United... here are 10 things you don't know about him

* Alexis Sanchez is set to be confirmed as Manchester United's latest big signing
* The Chilean will become the best-paid star in England but started life in poverty
* Sanchez may have rejected Pep Guardiola, but holds him in the highest regard

Alexis Sanchez has captured the imagination of Premier League fans since moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2014, and will enter a new realm of fame when he joins Manchester United.

The Chilean has been on quite a journey from his humble beginning in Tocopilla, but is now one of the most recognisable sportsmen on the entire planet.

Yet there is still plenty we are still to learn about this South American sensation. Sportsmail runs you through 10 fascinating things you may not have know...

Alexis Sanchez is Chile's all-time top goalscorer but is also their youngest ever player

1. Alexis Sanchez was born in Tocopilla in northern Chile, a city with 25,000 inhabitants. The main industries are fishing and mining, while it is known as the ‘city of energy’ because it generates electricity for the region. His brother Humberto said four years ago: ‘If Alexis wasn’t a footballer he would be working in the mines like most men around here.’

2. His nickname as a boy was ‘Dilla’, which is short for the Spanish ‘ardilla’ meaning squirrel. Sanchez earned the name because it only took him seconds to climb trees or scale buildings to retrieve lost footballs during street games. He now has a street in Tocopilla named after him.

3. Sanchez had humble beginnings. His father left shortly before he was born and his mother Martina sold fish to scrape a living. When Sanchez was playing for Cobreloa aged 16, Martina was fined $1,000 for selling fish without a licence. She could not afford it so Sanchez was put in touch with agent Fernando Felicevich, who bought his registration and settled the debt.

Quote:
HOW SANCHEZ NETS £600,000-A-WEEK

Basic weekly wage: £350,000.

This is the highest basic wage of any player in the Premier League. Manchester United have four of the top six earners in terms of basic weekly wage with Paul Pogba on £290,000, Romelu Lukaku on £250,000 and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on £220,000. Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure also earn £220,000.

Image rights: £100,000 a week

Bonuses: £144,000 a week

Sanchez broke on to the European scene after being plucked by Serie A side Udinese

4. He is quite literally a road runner. While at Udinese in Italy, he once drove into town for a shopping trip only to lose his keys. Instead of asking for a lift, he ran the four miles back home to get a spare set before running back to his car. No wonder his pace terrifies defenders!

5. Despite signing for Manchester United and not their rivals City, Sanchez holds his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola in high esteem. He once said of the City manager: ‘Guardiola made me feel like a Ferrari.’

Guardiola returned the compliment, once saying after Barcelona beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu: ‘Alexis has stolen my heart — our hearts. He has arrived here with the excitement of a kid and hasn’t let that go. His courage is remarkable.’

6. He did not get his first pair of football boots until he was 15. The local mayor, who supported Sanchez’s team Arauco, gave him a pair of Reeboks. Before then, Sanchez’s mother borrowed boots for the games he played.

Sanchez said: ‘I was so excited that I wore them on the pavement, even though they had studs and were made for grass.’ Playing barefoot in the street is the secret to his explosive style, with Sanchez saying: ‘Playing barefoot gave me my style, running with little jumps, because I was dodging rocks.’

7. Sanchez is Tocopilla’s very own Father Christmas. He has been known to give out presents while standing on the back of a truck with his friends at the local yuletide fair and has sent gifts and clothes to his old school.

8. Aged just 17 when he made his international debut against New Zealand in 2006, Sanchez is the youngest player to be capped by Chile. He has since become the country’s all-time record scorer with 39 goals.

Manchester United may want to get this banner included in the final transfer agreement

9. Also moving to Manchester will be his dogs Atom and Humber. Sanchez has created an Instagram account for his pooches and has taken them to training. Whether Atom and Humber are given their own banner at Old Trafford as they were at the Emirates remains to be seen.

10. Sanchez is no stranger to the big stage . . . so it is appropriate that he wants to be an actor when he retires. He said: ‘It’s why I try to make an effort in the ads I shoot. It’d be a dream to appear in the movies, either as a detective — you know, a smart chap, well-dressed, pistol, cool attitude — or as one of those lads who works at NASA and knows about everything.’

Manchester United announce Alexis Sanchez signing from Arsenal as Henrikh Mkhitaryan heads the other way in swap deal

* Alexis Sanchez has finally completed his stunning move to Manchester United
* Henrikh Mkhitaryan has left the Old Trafford outfit for Arsenal in a swap deal
* United will also pay £20m fee and £15m to Sanchez's agent Fernando Felicevich
* Sanchez was spotted at Carrington, Old Trafford, and his hotel on a busy Monday
* He and Mkhitaryan crossed paths in Liverpool as they processed work permits
* Sanchez referred to United as the 'biggest club in the world' in an interview
* The Chilean also criticised former Arsenal players for criticising him in the press

Playing a piano in his new kit one moment and standing on the pitch at Old Trafford breathing apprehensively into the cold air the next, Alexis Sanchez was unveiled as a Manchester United player in bizarre fashion on Monday night.

Gone are the days when new signings held a club scarf over their head and simply smiled.

While Paul Pogba made his entrance to a rap video with grime artist Stormzy when he rejoined the club for a record fee 18 months ago, Sanchez went the classical route as he gave a recital of ‘Glory, Glory Man United’ on the 36-second clip released by the club on social media.

Manchester United announced the arrival of Alexis Sanchez on Monday evening

Sanchez posing in a Manchester United shirt after completing his mega move to the club

The short and rather strange post brought to an end the transfer saga of the season, one that started nearly two weeks ago when it emerged that United were ready to rival Manchester City’s long-standing interest in the Chile forward and hijack his move from Arsenal.

Sanchez has not come cheap. He will earn £350,000 a week at United over a four-and-a-half-year contract, rising to £450,000 when his image rights are added in, and £600,000 including bonuses.

No money has changed hands between the clubs, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way and both players being valued at £35million — though, in Sanchez’s case, he only had four months left on his contract at Arsenal.

He said: ‘I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world. The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down.

United's newest player putting pen to paper on his contract with the Old Trafford side

Sanchez once again flashes his new No 7 shirt — once worn by the likes of David Beckham

'Since I was a young lad I’ve always said that my dream was to play for Manchester United, and I’m not just saying that because I’m here now, and today my dream has come true.

‘I believe that at this club it’s possible to achieve anything. The badge says it all. It’s a huge club on a worldwide scale, and I want to come here and win everything: the Premier League, the Champions League, and whatever comes the club’s way in the future.

‘I believe that the club itself cared about me joining, and that also gets through to the player.

'Players sometimes need to feel important and loved by the club.

‘That was one of the things that attracted me to come here, along with the manager, who is a person who won everything in Italy, the same as he did in Spain. He’s a manager who likes to win.’

Sanchez has been given the iconic No 7 shirt worn by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He said: ‘When they told me that Cristiano, Cantona, David Beckham had all worn it, just thinking about that No 7 sets you off dreaming in your head with ideas about lifting the Champions League trophy and winning the Premier League title.

‘So yes, I’m fulfilling a dream and I hope to give my very best and win many trophies at this club.’

It did not take long for the 29-year-old to take aim at some of the former Arsenal players who have questioned his motives for leaving the club and joining United rather than league leaders City.

Sportsmail pundit Martin Keown has described him as ‘the biggest mercenary in football’.

Sanchez indicated that ambition was his driving force, comparing the move to United with Thierry Henry’s departure from Arsenal for Barcelona in 2007.

He added: ‘There are people (former club players) who have spoken with no know-ledge of what happens inside the club and cause damage.

‘I must say I always gave 100 per cent, until the last day, when I asked to the Mister (Arsene Wenger) to be in the team, because I wanted to be a contribution.

‘I remember, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn.’

Once City dropped out of the running last week, unhappy that Sanchez’s camp had increased their demands, the former Barcelona man was always destined for Old Trafford.

The final obstacle was removed on Friday when Mkhitaryan agreed terms to join Arsenal in a swap deal.

On Sunday, Sanchez made a 50-minute flight by private jet from Biggin Hill in Kent to Manchester and passed a medical with United’s club doctor Steve McNally at Carrington.

He met Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford on Monday and travelled to Liverpool where he crossed paths with Mkhitaryan as both players had their work permits processed at the UK Visas and Immigration Centre.

The deal was confirmed at just after 6pm on Monday and immediately welcomed by Sanchez’s new manager Mourinho.

‘Alexis is one of the best attacking players in the world and he will complete our very young and talented group of attacking players,’ said the United boss. ‘He will bring his ambition, drive and personality — qualities that make a Manchester United player.’

Mkhitaryan also passed his medical at Arsenal’s London Colney headquarters and will become the club’s top earner on a deal worth just over £170,000-per-week.

He said: ‘I’m very happy that we could finish this deal. Now that I’m here, I’ll do my best for this club to create history.’

Mkhitaryan could soon be usurped by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on £190,000 a week if Arsenal can negotiate a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign the Gabon star.

The Gunners will return with an improved offer after having a £43m bid turned down, but Dortmund insist they will not let him leave without having a replacement lined up.

On Monday night, however, it was all about one man. And Alexis Sanchez was calling the tune.
