Manchester United 'lead the chase for £60m-rated Florian Wirtz' in January, with Ralf Rangnick pushing to make 18-year-old Bayer Leverkusen sensation his first signing since arriving at Old Trafford

* Florian Wirtz is regarded as one of Germany's best young players for years
* The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is generating interest from top clubs in Europe
* Manchester United are among them and Ralf Rangnick wants the 18-year-old
* Youngster would command a sizable fee thought to be around £60million

Manchester United are 'leading the chase for £60million-rated German wonderkid Florian Wirtz' from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 18-year-old is regarded by many as a generational talent and made his Bundesliga debut just after his 17th birthday.

He is already capped for Germany and Ralf Rangnick has identified the midfielder as a transfer target, according to the Sun.

United will no doubt face competition for the youngster with a number of Europe's elite sides interested in him.

Wirtz is an attacking midfielder so it would be interesting to see where he would fit in the side with Bruno Fernandes already nailing down that role.

But there is no surprise that the Old Trafford club are keen on the player, who is currently tied down to a deal with the Bundesliga side until 2026.

A summer move for him appears far more likely than anything in the January transfer window with Bayer wanting to keep hold of him.

Florian Wirtz is a target for Manchester United and could leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer. The Germany international is seen as one of the most promising prospects for some time. Ralf Rangnick likes Wirtz and is putting his extensive knowledge of the Bundesliga to use. Wirtz has scored five times and provided eight assists as one of Leverkusen's top players

He has five goals and eight assists in 15 Bundesliga games this season while also lighting up the Europa League, notching three goals and the same number of assists across five games.

Rangnick is of course incredibly well connected in German football and is also understood to be monitoring three more young talents.

Luca Netz, Eric Martel and Armel Bella-Kotchap of Monchengladbach, RB Leipzig and Bochum respectively are touted as stars of the future.

Even though Rangnick is only set to be in place as manager at Old Trafford for the rest of the season before taking up a consultancy role, it could be the case that the club look increasingly towards the Bundesliga for recruitment.

Paul Pogba could well leave in the summer, meaning Wirtz could be brought in as a replacement for the Frenchman.

Much could depend on whoever United identify as their next permanent manager in the months ahead.

Man United REJECT offer from Sevilla to take Anthony Martial on loan because it only covered part of striker's £200,000-a-week wages as he looks for Old Trafford exit having fallen out of favour

* Anthony Martial has fallen out of favour at Manchester United this season
* French striker has told Ralf Rangnick he is keen to leave Old Trafford in January
* Sevilla made a loan offer until the end of the season but United rejected it
* Proposed deal does not include the option or obligation to sign him in summer
* And it only covered part of Martial's £200,000-a-week wages at United

Manchester United have turned down an offer from Sevilla to take Anthony Martial on loan for the remainder of the season.

The French striker has informed United's interim manager Ralf Rangnick that he wishes to leave Old Trafford because of a lack of game time this season.

Rangnick said he was sympathetic to Martial's position but any deal must be right for United.

The LaLiga club proposed a straight loan until the end of the season that does not include an obligation to buy Martial afterwards or an option on him.

But it only covered part of Martial's £200,000-a-week wages and United have turned down this opening bid from the Spanish club.

Sevilla is believed to be Martial's preferred destination if he is to move during the January window.

The 26-year-old is contracted to United for another two-and-a-half years but has fallen down the pecking order this season.

The former Monaco player has scored 79 goals in 268 games since joining United in 2015 for a fee worth up to £58million but he has made only four starts this season and not featured in the new manager's first four games due to injury.

Sevilla have reportedly made an offer to take Anthony Martial on loan in the January window with the Manchester United striker keen for more game time. Martial has struggled for game time at Old Trafford this season after falling out of favour. United manager Ralf Rangnick insists any deal for Martial will be on the club's terms

'We spoke at length,' said Rangnick ahead of Monday's 1-1 draw at Newcastle.

'He explained to me he's been at Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels it's the right time for a change, to go somewhere else.

'In a way this is understandable. I could follow his thoughts, but on the other hand, it's also important to see the situation of the club.

'We have Covid times, we have three competitions in which we still have high ambitions and want to be as successful as we can be.

'It should not only be in the interest of the player, it should also be in the interest of the club. So far, as far as I know, there has been no offer from any other club and as long as this is the case he will stay.'

Juan Mata 'wanted by Real Sociedad with LaLiga outfit hoping Manchester United let him leave as a free agent in January - and Barcelona are also keeping an eye on the playmaker's situation'

* Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has just six months left on his contract
* Sixth-placed Real Sociedad are hoping for a top-four finish in LaLiga this season
* Barcelona are in huge financial trouble but would welcome Mata's talents

Juan Mata could be heading for the Manchester United exit door in January, with Real Sociedad reportedly hopeful of securing a deal for the playmaker.

Mata has just six months remaining on his Old Trafford contract - with it unlikely that he'll be offered new terms for an extension.

And the Sun claim that Real Sociedad are keen to end Mata's stay at United early by persuading the Red Devils to release him as a free agent next month.

Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil believes Mata’s big-time experience can help them achieve a top-four finish this season. The Spanish outfit currently sit sixth in LaLiga - just one point off fourth-paced Rayo Vallecano.

Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata is a target of Real Sociedad's in the January window. Imanol Alguacil is keen to add the 33-year-old's experience to his Sociedad squad next month. Mata has only made three appearances for United this term - with none in the Premier League

However, any move would see the playmaker take a big pay cut from his reported £100,000-per-week takings.

La Real are not the only Spanish side in for the 33-year-old with seventh-placed Barcelona also reportedly monitoring Mata's situation.

The cash-strapped Catalans though would be relying on Mata becoming a free agent in January - especially as they have somehow splashed £55million to sign Manchester City forward Ferran Torres.

Mata, who joined United in January 2014, has only made three appearances for the club so far this season - with none in the Premier League.

Manchester United 'eye swoop for Mauro Icardi should Barcelona target Edinson Cavani leave in the January transfer window - with the PSG striker reduced to a lesser role this season'

* Edinson Cavani has just six months remaining on his Manchester United contract
* United, and Juventus, are keeping tabs on PSG striker Mauro Icardi's situation
* Icardi is behind Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the pecking order

Manchester United have a contingency plan in place in case Edinson Cavani leaves next month, with the Red Devils reportedly lining up a swoop for Mauro Icardi.

Cavani's future at Old Trafford has been a source of speculation, with the 34-year-old entering the final six months of his contract.

And according to Calciomercato, the Premier League outfit are preparing a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Icardi should Cavani depart in the January transfer window.

The Italian publication claims Icardi is having a difficult time in Paris, with his game-time reduced following Lionel Messi's arrival this summer.

Mauro Icardi is a reported target of Manchester United's in the January transfer window. They're considering a move for Icardi should Edinson Cavani leave them next month. Icardi has found himself lower in the striking pecking order at Paris Saint-Germain this season

Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are the first-choice front three at the Parc des Princes, meaning Icardi has often been a substitute when the aforementioned trio are fit.

However, they add that United could face competition from Juventus - with the Italian giants' monitoring the 28-year-old's situation.

As reported by Sportsmail, Barcelona are interested in Cavani - with the Uruguayan keen on the move too but it all depends on interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Manchester United 'prepared to pay £17m release clause to secure signing of talented River Plate striker Julian Alvarez' with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also chasing the 21-year-old

* Manchester United are ready to pay Julian Alvarez's £17million release clause
* United interim boss Ralf Rangnick wants to improve his side's attacking options
* Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are also tracking Alvarez

Manchester United are reportedly willing to pay River Plate striker Julian Alvarez's £17million release clause.

The 21-year-old prospect is highly sought after, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan also monitoring his progress.

As reported by Sport, United are determined to sign Alvarez, who has scored 18 goals in 21 league games this season.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick is determined to bolster his team's attacking options, and Alvarez is seen as a player who could help the club in that department.

Alvarez, who progressed through the ranks at River Plate's academy, is a senior Argentina international and has been capped by his country on five occasions.

Rangnick can already call upon the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford, but United are still looking to strengthen.

Alvarez's agent Fernando Hidalgo is reportedly set to fly out to England in order to discuss a deal.

On Monday United host Wolves, with Rangnick's side looking to build upon their 3-1 win against Burnley.

Barcelona 'are in talks with Man United over swap deal for Anthony Martial that would see Ousmane Dembele arrive at Old Trafford' as the Catalans need to trim wage bill after Ferran Torres's arrival

* Anthony Martial has struggled for game time at Manchester United this season
* The 26-year-old has made just seven league appearances so far this season
* Barcelona need to trim their wage bill in order to register signing Ferran Torres
* The Catalans 'are exploring' a swap deal to offload forward Ousmane Dembele

Barcelona are in talks with Manchester United over a potential swap deal for Anthony Martial, according to reports.

The Frenchman is believed to be one of the Red Devils in contention to leave Old Trafford in January.

The 26-year-old has made just seven league appearances this season, with only two coming as starts, and has not featured for United since a two-minute cameo against Arsenal at the beginning of December.

However, United have reportedly rebuffed an offer from Sevilla who approached the Premier League side over a loan deal which would see them pay half of Martial's wages, according to The Mirror.

But with Barcelona reportedly in the mix, the Red Devils could find a suitable deal to offload one of their highest earners.

The Catalans recently secured the signing of Ferran Torres from Manchester City but the Spaniard's move could eventually cost the club as much as £54m.

Barcelona are 'in talks' with Manchester United over a loan deal for Anthony Martial. United's previous interest in Ousmane Dembele could pave the way for a January swap deal

Barcelona's signing of Torres adds further financial strain onto the club's well-documented difficulties, meaning they would have to part ways with current players to fund further attacking reinforcements.

Former United forward has already been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp despite only arriving in summer, while Ousmane Dembele is reportedly also among those who could be on the move.

United are said to have previously shown interest in Dembele which could pave the way for a January exchange for the two clubs.

Xavi's side are reportedly exploring the option of a swap deal that would see the two France internationals head in opposite directions.

Dembele is in the final few months of the deal he signed upon his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 and with Barcelona needing to trim their wage bill in order to register Torres, they could look to offload the Frenchman.

Blaugrana boss Xavi remains hopeful that Dembele will agree to a new Barcelona deal on reduced terms but if the 24-year-old fails to agree a new deal and January move could be on the cards to prevent Barcelona losing him for free in summer.

Out-of-favour Donny van de Beek could leave Manchester United in January, with Dutchman exploring his options despite Ralf Rangnick's assurances of regular football

* Donny van de Beek could still leave Manchester United this month
* Dutchman has been a largely peripheral figure under three managers
* Ralf Rangnick had promised to play Van de Beek more regularly after taking over
* But 24-year-old midfielder has started just one game under the German
* Former Ajax star is yet to start a Premier League match this season

Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek could leave Old Trafford in January and he is reportedly considering his options after failing to establish himself as a regular under Ralf Rangnick.

According to ESPN, the midfielder hasn't been convinced by the German's promises of greater involvement and is eager to play regularly to reclaim his place in the Holland squad.

The 24-year-old won the last of his 19 caps for the national team in June last year and was not included in any of the seven World Cup qualifiers the Oranje played over the last four months.

Holland manager Louis Van Gaal has made clear he will only consider players who feature regularly for their clubs, meaning Van de Beek may have to leave Old Trafford in order to win a place in the squad for the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

Donny van de Beek could still leave Manchester United in the January transfer window. Ralf Rangnick has been the latest United manager to snub the Dutchman since his arrival

The Dutchman joined United in a £35 million deal from Ajax in the summer of 2020 but has been a largely peripheral figure so far.

The 24-year-old started only four Premier League games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season and is yet to be included in the starting XI for a league match this term.

After taking over as interim manager at Old Trafford in November, Rangnick suggested Van de Beek would be more involved but has named him among the starters just once.

The midfielder was an unused substitute for United's 1-0 defeat against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday night.

According to the report, United would be prepared to allow Van de Beek to leave on loan but will only consider offers that include a loan fee and that will cover the player's wages for the remainder of the season.

Rangnick will have the final say on any deal and the German is understood to be eager to keep the midfielder at Old Trafford, given United are still involved in three different competitions.

Van de Beek's only start under Rangnick came against Young Boys in the Champions League. The Dutchman is eager to regain his place in the Holland squad for the 2022 World Cup. Rangnick is dealing with growing unrest with several United players thought to be unhappy

Earlier this week, the Mirror reported that Van de Beek's plans of leaving in January could be further complicated by a dispute involving his current and former agent.

The former Ajax player parted ways with his agent Guido Albers in October and reportedly turned to Ali Dursun, who has worked for the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Victor Lindelof.

His plans to appoint Dursun as his new agent, however, have been blocked by Albers, who is determined to hold the player to a contract he signed in 2020.

Van de Beek is just one of several United players who are understood to be disillusioned with life at Old Trafford.

As reported by Sportsmail, the mood around Carrington has been described as ‘oppressive’, with up to half the squad said to be unhappy.

The Dutchman is one part of a group of players containing Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Dean Henderson who would leave this month if they had the opportunity.

Jesse Lingard 'is ready to quit Manchester United FOR GOOD in January' with the midfielder yet to start a league game this season... and West Ham 'are keen to secure a permanent deal' after he sparkled on loan last year

* Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard could finally leave the club this month
* The midfielder is yet to start a game in the Premier League this season
* He impressed on loan at West Ham last season and could return to the Hammers

Manchester United's out-of-favour midfielder Jesse Lingard is ready to finally seal an exit from the club this month after failing to start a Premier League game this season, according to reports.

Lingard was so impressive on loan at West Ham United last season with some searing form that nearly rewarded him with a place in the England squad, but he returned to Old Trafford looking for a second chance that has not come.

Now the Mirror report that Lingard finally wants out after more than two decades with his boyhood club as he looks to seal regular first team football, with the London Stadium a possible destination.

Sportsmail reported this week how United are facing a dressing room unrest of 17 players who are currently unhappy at Old Trafford, including Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek amid a difficult season for the Red Devils.

Jesse Lingard is ready to finally seal an exit from Man United after failing to secure regular football, according to reports. West Ham boss David Moyes is keen to be reunited with him after impressing on loan last year. Lingard has featured just three times under Ralf Rangnick and is yet to start in the league

Lingard is understood to be among this crap of dissatisfied stars, having not featured for the club since a 1-1 draw against Young Boys on December 8 - just the third time he has played a game under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

His contract will expire in the summer and become a free agent - meaning West Ham could snap him up on a cut price deal with United keen not to lose him for nothing after starting his career with the club.

West Ham and boss David Moyes are determined to secure a permanent deal for Lingard, the report adds, having failed to snatch him up last summer.

He has played 12 times in all competitions this season, with eight sub appearances in the league and two starts in cup games - netting twice overall.

Last season with the Hammers, he played 16 times, scoring nine goals, and will be desperate to return to that top level form.

Napoli agree a loan fee worth up to £1m for Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe after his spell at Aston Villa was cut short

* Axel Tuanzebe had been on loan at Aston Villa for the 2021-22 campaign
* But his loan spell has been cut short so he can join Napoli on a similar deal
* Napoli will pay initial £500,000 for the deal with performance related add-ons

Napoli have agreed to pay Manchester United a £500,000 loan fee for Axel Tuanzebe following the end of his loan spell at Aston Villa.

Tuanzebe cut short his loan at Villa Park to join the Italian side until the end of the current campaign.

Napoli will pay a further £333,000 should they qualify for the Champions League plus an extra £165,000 if Tuanzebe hits a set amount of appearances.

Tuanzebe, 24, had joined Villa for a third loan spell at the start of the season but following just six appearances now looks to be out of favour following the arrival of new manager Steven Gerrard.

Axel Tuanzebe's loan spell at Aston Villa for the 2021-22 season has been cut short. The defender has not found favour under Steven Gerrard and will instead join Napoli

There does not appear to be an option to purchase the defender on behalf of Napoli at the end of the agreement.

Villa now want another back-up centre back as they look to plug a defence that has shipped 30 goals this term and led to them already losing 11 Premier League games - only Watford and Norwich City have lost more.

Manchester United meanwhile will not sanction a deal to allow Donny van de Beek to leave Old Trafford in January.

Van de Beek, 24, has endured a torrid spell at Old Trafford since making a £40million switch from Ajax in 2020, with the Dutchman rarely used by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The midfielder had been linked with a January loan move to Everton or Wolves, but Rangnick's arrival saw hopes renewed that Van de Beek may finally get his chance at Old Trafford.

However, he has made just one start under Rangnick - against Young Boys in their Champions League dead rubber - and has played a total of six minutes in the Premier League with the new boss in charge.
