EARLY TEAM NEWS FOR UNITED V SWANSEA

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday with a 15:00 BST kick-off against Swansea City at Old Trafford.

With many of the Reds away on international duty, there is always the fear that some could return with injury or fitness worries, following the batch of friendly matches.

Scott McTominay was forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad after making his debut against Costa Rica, thus missing the 1-0 victory in Hungary. Sergio Romero was taken off during Argentina's 6-1 loss to Spain after being hurt when Diego Costa was in the process of scoring the opening goal for the hosts.

Marcos Rojo played the full game at the Wanda Metropolitano, his first appearance since the 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on 3 February, suggesting he should be available for the weekend. Ander Herrera is also fit again after declaring he is ready to return after a lay-off, but Phil Jones was not called up to the England squad due to his injury.

Paul Pogba was left limping after a first-half challenge during France's 3-1 success in Russia but later scored a wonderful free-kick and completed the 90 minutes. Ashley Young also appeared to hurt his knee towards the end of England's 1-1 draw with Italy, only to shrug the knock off. Hopefully, both will be fine when reporting back to the Aon Training Complex.

Of course, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is no longer an option after his contract was terminated so he could join MLS side LA Galaxy.

The in-form Swans are likely to be without Angel Rangel, Leroy Fer and Wilfried Bony, while Renato Sanches, the midfielder on loan from Bayern Munich, might be ready for a comeback.

Manager Jose Mourinho will face the media on Friday to offer more news on his plans for the encounter.

MATCH PREVIEW: UNITED V SWANSEA CITY

Setting the scene... After the final international break of the campaign, the Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when an in-form Swansea City are the visitors to Old Trafford. It's the start of what could be a potentially season-defining period of nine games, with the possibility of a 10th if we reach the FA Cup final at Wembley. Jose Mourinho's men will be looking to further consolidate second place in the league and ensure some vital momentum heading into next weekend's eagerly anticipated Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

How can I watch it? Saturday's match at Old Trafford will kick off at 15:00 BST but will not be broadcast in the UK. However, subscribers to MUTV on Sky or Virgin Media, the club's MUTV app or online at MUTV.com will be able to watch build-up from 13:00 BST on the Match Day show and listen to radio commentary of the game before watching it in full on Sunday at 18:00 BST. You can also keep up with all the action as it happens via ManUtd.com's live match blog and by following our official Twitter account @ManUtd.

What's the team news? During the international break, Scott McTominay was forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad after making his debut against Costa Rica, while Sergio Romero injured his knee in the first half of Argentina's 6-1 defeat against Spain. Marcos Rojo, who played the full 90 minutes in the friendly in Madrid, and Ander Herrera could return to the fold after missing the last few games through injury, but Phil Jones and Daley Blind have remained sidelined. Paul Pogba and Ashley Young both picked up knocks on international duty, but will be hoping to be fit for Saturday's game. The boss could give an update on his squad in Friday's pre-match press conference.

How are Swansea City doing? After looking favourites to be relegated earlier in the season, the Swans have been transformed under head coach Carlos Carvalhal. The former Sheffield Wednesday manager took charge of the Swans in late December with the club bottom of the Premier League and four points from safety. In his four-month tenure so far, the 52-year-old has guided the Welsh side out of the relegation zone to 14th and, crucially, three points above the bottom three. During this run, they have recorded notable victories over Liverpool and Arsenal on their own patch, while the Swans also drew 1-1 at Old Trafford in last season's corresponding fixture.

What's our record against Swansea like? United have an impressive record against Saturday's visitors, winning 21 of the 31 matches played in league and cup between the two sides. The Reds' home record in particular stands out, with the Swans only claiming three points at the Theatre of Dreams once - the opening day of the 2014/15 campaign. United are currently on a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions against the Swans and will be aiming to make it five this weekend.

What happened earlier in the season? The Reds visited the Liberty Stadium for their second Premier League game of the campaign and ran riot in the second half. Eric Bailly scored his first United goal just before the break before a devastating spell of three goals in the space of four minutes from Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial late on sealed an impressive 4-0 win. United also made a second visit to south Wales in the Carabao Cup in October, when Jesse Lingard bagged a brace in a 2-0 victory.

One to watch: After failing trials with Bournemouth and Millwall earlier in his career, defender Alfie Mawson completed a remarkable rise when receiving his first England call-up this month. The 24-year old's solid performances have helped Swansea climb up the Premier League table in recent weeks. The commanding centre-back possesses a threat from set-pieces and has scored three goals in all competitions this season, including a crucial winner against Liverpool in January. Since Carvalhal came to the club, Mawson has been part of a defence that has kept three clean sheets from the Swans' last 10 matches, and will be hopeful of keeping another shut-out.

Did you know? The Easter weekend has been a positive period for United in recent years. Over the last five seasons, the Reds have picked up 12 points from the Bank Holiday fixtures, the second-best record in the division.

Milestone beckons for Red Rom: Romelu Lukaku could reach a key landmark in his career this weekend, as the Reds' no.9 is one strike away from his 100th Premier League goal. The Belgian striker scored 17 goals for West Bromwich Albion during a season-long loan from Chelsea in 2012/13 as well as 68 goals in four years at Everton and his 14 in the league this season for the Reds. Lukaku has scored 12 goals in 15 games for United and Belgium in 2018, after netting twice in his country's 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Tuesday night.

How will we get on? Get involved and predict the score of the game with the Manchester United Score Predictor and win amazing prizes throughout the season with Marathonbet.

Who's the referee? Bobby Madley will take charge of a game at Old Trafford for the first time this season this weekend. The Yorkshireman has officiated only one United match so far this season, which ironically was against Swansea in the Carabao Cup at the Liberty Stadium. The 32-year-old will be assisted by Marc Perry and Mick McDonough, while Anthony Taylor takes up the role of fourth official.

MOURINHO REACTS TO WIN OVER SWANSEA

Jose Mourinho declared Manchester United's first-half performance as one of the best showings at Old Trafford this season as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez proved the difference in a 2-0 win over Swansea.

The Reds returned from the international break in style after an impressive first 45 minutes effectively put the game to bed. Lukaku grabbed his 100th Premier League goal latching on to an Alexis' pass, whilst the Chilean then netted a goal himself minutes later and that was how it stayed. Read the key points from the boss in his post-match interviews with MUTV…

TOP FIRST-HALF PERFORMANCE
"[The first half] was one of the best halves we have played at Old Trafford this season. 2-0 was very short, not just in terms of our chances to score, but in terms of our quality and the beauty of our football. The second half was different, we gave them the chance they didn't have in the first half. We gave them the ball to try and create something, we went a little bit down, maybe six of our players had international football that can tire and ache. They probably let the game and the intensity go down and felt the game was under control."

WE DESERVE TO FINISH SECOND

"Overall seven matches to go, three very important points, we want to finish in the best possible position which is the second position. We are there for the whole season and clearly I think we deserve to finish there, but to finish there we need points and today those three points were important."

ON LUKAKU'S 100TH PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL
"Yes it is [a great record], but I say again football is not just about the goals he scores, it is much more than that and I am really happy with that. But more important than that is the victory, the three points and we are there."

GOOD FOR ALEXIS TO SCORE
"Alexis to score a goal is nice for him, for his confidence, but again it was our best period in the game and 2-0 was really short to arrive at half-time."

CARRICK'S COACHING DEBUT
"Yes one match, one victory. We are preparing him for that. He obviously has the knowledge and the experience as a player, but to be on the other side is a different perspective and to start having these little feelings of being on the coaching staff is only positive for him because when he starts next season he will be much more comfortable."

THE STATS BEHIND ALEXIS'S AWARD

Alexis Sanchez was voted Man of the Match for his efforts against Swansea City on Saturday as he set up the opener for Romelu Lukaku and scored the second after 20 minutes.

It is the third time he has been named star man in his 11 appearances for Manchester United, since joining from Arsenal in January.

As well as contributing hugely to the goals in the 2-0 triumph, the Chilean had 68 touches in all, and made 39 of his 49 passes in the opposing half. Overall, his passing accuracy was 81.6 per cent and he made a total of 46 sprints.

The Opta data also confirmed his defensive exploits, which earned the acclaim of the Old Trafford crowd and should not be overlooked. He made two tackles, three interceptions and gained possession six times, showing a willingness to do the dirty side of his job.

Alexis secured 65 per cent of the vote on Twitter, eclipsing Paul Pogba (20%) and stylish Swede Victor Lindelof (15%) to come out on top.

Jose Mourinho, who withdrew Alexis on 74 minutes, commented: "I don't like to make it about individual performances, independent of the collective performance. Alexis played well, yes, but the team played really well in the first half.

"In the second half, Alexis was one of the guys who paid the price for the international week and two matches in a few days. He arrived late on Wednesday and had almost no time to train so, after 60 minutes, he was on his way down but he was important. For Alexis to score a goal is nice for him, for his confidence."
