Semoga Valencia segera pulih

MOURINHO UPDATE ON VALENCIA'S BROKEN ARM

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed Antonio Valencia is facing a lengthy spell out after undergoing an “important surgery” on his fractured arm at the weekend.

The Ecuadorian suffered his "bad injury" during the 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the EFL Cup and was forced to have an operation on the day of the Reds’ Premier League draw with Burnley.

It was a particular blow for the 31-year-old following his exceptional start to the season that had just this week earned him one of three nominations for the club’s October Player of the Month award.

At a press conference to preview United’s Europa League match with Fenerbahce, Mourinho was asked to provide an update on the severity of Valencia’s injury and the duration of his absence.

“Valencia is a bad injury, yes,” the manager told reporters in Istanbul, Turkey. “It's an important fracture in his arm and an important surgery too, so he'll be out for a while.”

Encouragingly, Valencia has vowed to come back stronger from his injury in an Instagram video that he posted to his 750,000 followers on Sunday night. “Now thinking only in recovery,” he said. "I want to come back soon and help my team. I'll come back stronger and always optimistic.”

Mourinho went to praise Matteo Darmian for the way he performed against Burnley in Valencia’s absence and expressed his confidence in the Italy international who now has a chance to shine.

“The good thing is that even when Antonio was playing very well, we were preparing Darmian and he was having matches,” Jose said on Wednesday. “He was playing against Feyenoord, Zorya Luhansk and Fenerbahce and he was having minutes to develop himself.

“In the last match we had to play Darmian for the first time in the Premier League and he was ready. He played really well against Burnley. We trust him totally and he is obviously ready to play tomorrow to give continuity to the good work our right-backs are doing in both competitions.”

Manchester United star Paul Pogba limps off in the first half against Fenerbahce as Jose Mourinho's troubles deepen

* Paul Pogba picks up possible dead leg against Fenerbahce in the first half
* Manchester United will be hoping the injury to the French star isn't serious
* Ander Herrera's suspension means United face midfield crisis at Swansea

Paul Pogba hobbled off during the first half of Manchester United's Europa League clash with Fenerbahce.

The French star took a blow to the thigh in a collision with Josef de Souza and looked to have picked up a dead leg before being replaced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the 29th minute of the tie at Sukru Saracoglu.

Should the midfielder be absent on Sunday at the Liberty Stadium, when United take on Swansea, it would leave manager Jose Mourinho shorthanded in midfield. Ander Herrera is already suspended after his controversial red card against Burnley.

The French star took a blow to the thigh in a collision with Josef de Souza and had to go off

Pogba's injury came in a fiery first half after Moussa Sow's wonder goal had put the home side ahead. Wayne Rooney, Herrera and Ibrahimovic were involved in flare-ups involving rough-house tactics from the Turkish side.

In the BT Sport studio there was concern for Pogba's ability to make a return in time to trip to south Wales.

'You'd think he'd be a big doubt for Sunday, it looks like a dead leg,' said former United man Paul Scholes.

'Fenerbahce have been guilty of a few of those, a few little late tackles. There was one on Rooney and there was one on Herrera, one on Zlatan as well.

'It's a big worry for the weekend. A dead leg, you're thinking tonight/tomorrow it'll probably get worse. Will it clear up by Sunday? It's doubtful.'

Another Old Trafford luminary, and no stranger to the physio room, Michael Owen was doubtful that Pogba would be line up against Swansea.

He said: 'It's going to be touch and go. You're thinking it's three or four days. It depends how big it is.

'It's obviously a bleed in the muscle when you get a good bang. I think he'll be struggling with it.'

United promised an update on Pogba's injury situation post-match.

Waduh menambah masalah saja nih ...

POGBA JOINS UNITED INJURY LIST

Manchester United could be without Paul Pogba for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Swansea City after he limped off during the Europa League game against Fenerbahce.

The Frenchman seemed to injure his thigh in a tackle with Brazilian midfielder Souza and he expressed his frustration by punching the ground before getting back to his feet.

Pogba tried to shake off the knock and played on, even managing to create enough space for himself to fashion United's first shot on target - albeit an effort comfortably saved by Volkan Demirel. However, on the half-hour mark he signalled to the bench that he felt unable to carry on and he was replaced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

With Ander Herrera suspended after his sending-off against Burnley last weekend, the Reds could have some problems in midfield ahead of the return to domestic action. It will therefore be intriguing to see if Jose Mourinho calls on the services of Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has just returned to training with the first-team squad.

Speaking about Schweinsteiger in his pre-match press conference, Mourinho observed: "At the moment, we have no problems in midfield like we have in defence but, if we have problems in midfield, it's another option for us."

A more positive note was the return to action for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The summer signing made his eagerly-awaited first appearance since early September when he came on in the second half against Fenerbahce as a replacement for Marcus Rashford.

There was no official update on Pogba's condition before the squad flew home from Istanbul but if he is ruled out for the weekend, he will join existing absentees Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Antonio Valencia on the sidelines.

Chris Smalling's broken toe leaves Jose Mourinho red faced after the Manchester United defender is ruled out for at least a month

* Chris Smalling has been sidelined for at least a month with a broken toe
* Jose Mourinho had previously questioned the defender's fitness
* Mourinho asked Smalling to have injections to enable him to face Chelsea
* The defender has not played for Manchester United since the 4-0 defeat

Jose Mourinho has been left embarrassed by his decision to question Chris Smalling's fitness after the defender was ruled out for at least a month.

Mourinho told MUTV after United beat Swansea last Sunday that Smalling 'doesn't feel that he can play 100 per cent without pain'.

However, it has now emerged after further tests that Smalling has broken a toe so badly in two places that he will be absent for the next four weeks – and may not play again before Christmas.

Defender Chris Smalling could be out until Christmas after suffering a badly broken toe. Smalling has broken his toe in two places, leaving Manchester United short in defence

Mourinho asked Smalling to have two injections in his foot to get through the Premier League game at Chelsea on October 23 and the Portuguese described his efforts as being 'phenomenal'.

The England defender has not played for United since; Mourinho wanted to play Smalling at The Liberty Stadium but the injury was causing such discomfort he could not give a positive answer.

Mourinho singled out Smalling and Shaw last weekend, questioning their 'bravery', but he now has significant cause to regret those comments.

Quote:
UNITED'S GAMES BEFORE CHRISTMAS

November 19: Arsenal - H (PL)
November 24: Feyenoord - H (EL)
November 27: West Ham - H (PL)
November 30: West Ham - H (EFL Cup)
December 4: Everton - A (PL)
December 8: Zorya Luhansk - A (EL)
December 11: Tottenham - H (PL)
December 14: Crystal Palace - A (PL)
December 17: West Brom - A (PL)
Smalling will now miss at least seven matches, including key Premier League fixtures against Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham and the League Cup quarter-final with West Ham.

The setback could not have come at a worse time for Mourinho, who is also without Eric Bailly, his £30million signing from Villarreal. He will be absent for at least another month with knee ligament damage.

Phil Jones has returned to provide some cover but Mourinho will look to strength his squad during the January window, with Atletico Madrid's Jose Giminez and Benfica's Victor Lindelof potential options.

Wayne Rooney leaves England camp and returns to Manchester United after withdrawing with knee injury

* Wayne Rooney has left the England squad to return to Manchester United
* The striker missed Monday's training session with a reported knee injury
* Rooney was not expected to feature in the Three Lions friendly with Spain
* Gareth Southgate's side with face Spain at Wembley on the back of their recent victory over Scotland

Wayne Rooney has returned to Manchester United after receiving permission to leave the England squad after picking up a knee injury.

The Red Devils captain was unable to take part in Monday's training session after complaining of problems with his knee.

Interim manager Gareth Southgate had already previously confirmed Rooney would not be starting in Tuesday night's friendly with Spain at Wembley.

Wayne Rooney has the left the England camp after picking up a knee injury

Southgate had revealed Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson would captain the Three Lions as they return to action following their recent 3-0 win over neighbours Scotland.

After initially confirming Rooney would not be starting, Southgate was questioned on whether the Three Lions starting XI would be short of leaders out on the pitch.

But the former Middlesbrough defender was keen to emphasize the need to share responsibility and that, at times, too much has been placed upon the shoulders of United star Rooney.

'At times too much of that responsibility has laid with Wayne and we need to share that. There are leaders already and other potential leaders who I think can step forward,' said Southgate.

Rooney played the full 90 minutes as England recently brushed aside Scotland in their Group F World Cup qualifying tie.

But the United man, England's all time record goalscorer, could not get himself upon the score sheet as finishes from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill were enough to give the Three Lions a comfortable victory.

England boss Gareth Southgate insists Wayne Rooney was injured for Spain draw after reports he 'gatecrashed a wedding at a hotel'

* Wayne Rooney was missing from England's 2-2 draw against Spain
* He withdrew from the squad on Monday with a minor knee injury
* There have been claims he 'gatecrashed a wedding after downing beer and wine at a hotel bar following England's victory over Scotland'

Gareth Southgate insisted Wayne Rooney’s withdrawal from the England squad for the Spain clash was not linked to reports he was drunk hours after Friday’s win over Scotland.

A national newspaper report on Tuesday accused the England captain of gatecrashing a wedding at the team hotel in Hertfordshire on Saturday night, where onlookers described the Manchester United star as not being a ‘pretty sight’.

Photographs of Rooney appearing to be intoxicated emerged late on Tuesday.

Gareth Southgate has said Wayne Rooney missed England's draw with Spain through injury. There are claims that Manchester United captain Rooney 'gatecrashed a wedding after downing beer and wine at a hotel bar following England's victory over Scotland'

The 31-year-old had been due to train with the England squad on Sunday morning but didn’t take part because of a minor knee injury.

Rooney withdrew from the squad on Monday and returned to Manchester United.

After England's 2-2 draw with Spain Southgate insisted that was the only reason behind his forward’s departure.

‘He picked up an injury in the game on Friday and couldn’t train on Sunday and that’s it,’ said Southgate.

Adam Lallana and Jamie Vardy gave England a 2-0 lead over Spain, but late strikes from Iago Aspas and Isco rescued a draw for the visitors.
