Loans: Lingard red card



It was a Boxing Day to forget for one of Manchester United’s young loanees as Jesse Lingard was sent off in Birmingham City’s clash at Wigan Athletic.

The Warrington-born midfielder, who has been in fine form this season, was dismissed just after the hour mark following a late challenge on Jordi Gomez. One positive for Jesse was that his departure did not stop the Blues from holding out for a 0-0 draw against a Wigan side for whom United's Will Keane came on as substitute in the 72nd minute. Nick Powell, who is also on loan with the Latics, was not involved.

Elsewhere, Will’s brother Michael Keane played the full 90 minutes for Derby County at Huddersfield Town. Playing in the heart of defence, Keane came agonisingly close to notching a clean sheet and helping the Rams to claim an eighth straight win, but Martin Paterson’s 86th-minute equaliser put paid to that as Derby had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Ryan Tunnicliffe again started as Ipswich Town took on Kiko Macheda's Doncaster Rovers in a game that was to finish in favour of the former. In a 3-0 win for the Tractor Boys, the combative Mancunian midfielder turned creator-in-chief as he set-up the second goal with a pinpoint cross to Luke Chambers. Macheda left the proceedings on 53 minutes, replaced by fellow forward Alex Peterson.

Two other Reds on loan, Ben Amos and Tom Lawrence, both turned out for Carlisle United in League One’s early kick-off on Boxing Day but were unable to prevent a 1-0 reverse against Preston North End. Finally, in an evening match, Tyler Blackett was an unused substitute as his loan club Blackpool drew 1-1 at home to Leeds.

Derby County extend loan of Manchester United defender Michael Keane who is now set to face Chelsea in FA Cup



MICHAEL Keane is set to face Premier League Chelsea in the FA Cup after Derby County extended the defender’s loan from Manchester United until the end of the month.

Keane’s initial loan spell was to end after yesterday’s

1-0 home defeat by Wigan Athletic in the Championship.

But Derby have moved quickly and reached an agreement for the 20-year-old to stay longer.

He is now available for Sunday’s sell-out televised third round tie against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea at the iPro Stadium.

Keane has started the last three games in place of injured skipper Richard Keogh.

“Manchester United have agreed that Michael can stay until the end of January and can play in the FA Cup. We will then reassess at the end of the month,” McClaren said.

Derby are keen to keep the England Under-21 international until the end of the season.

The Rams have also extended Zak Whitbread’s loan from Leicester City and they are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over signing attacking midfielder Simon Dawkins on a permanent basis.

Whitbread is fit again after a calf injury and the 29-year-old will stay until the end of the season.

“Zak has been great when he has played,” said first-team coach Paul Simpson.

“He has been really unfortunate injury-wise but he is fit again now and he gives us great security at the back.

“We have got Richard Keogh out injured at the moment and Michael Keane has slotted in, Jake Buxton has been a rock for us at the back as well, so extending Zak’s loan gives us that left-sided centre-back option and we are delighted that he has agreed to stay with us.”

Dawkins has made 13 appearances (11 starts) during his loan spell and the 26-year-old has made an impact.

McClaren confirmed Derby are negotiating with Tottenham over the size of the fee for Dawkins.

“Hopefully we can do a deal very soon to get him here,” McClaren added.

Derby are expected to complete the loan signing of 20-year-old Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford once his loan with MK Dons has expired.

His final game for the League One club is due to be in their FA Cup tie against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Mike Keane + Tunni extended. Powell masih terus sampe akhir musim seperti kesepakatan awal. Ini lingard, will keane, petrucci, amos ga diperpanjang, pertanda mereka belum berkembang sesuai yg diharapkan kah?

Gw harap mereka di loan lg kalo bisa klub epl dan ada kesempatan main meski ga reguler dulu. Secara posisi mereka saat ini belum terlalu dibutuhin di tim utama United.

Trio extend loan stints

Three of Manchester United's youngsters have extended their loan deals on Thursday.

Michael Keane will remain with Derby County at least until the end of the month as he strives to aid the Rams in their promotion bid and also in the glamour FA Cup third-round tie with Chelsea.

Ryan Tunnicliffe is staying with Ipswich Town after making 23 appearances for Mick McCarthy's side, as they occupy the final play-off spot in the Championship table. The midfielder is eligible to play for Town in their FA Cup clash with Preston North End on Saturday.

Furthermore, Tom Lawrence will hope to continue his run of scoring spectacular strikes at Carlisle United after a deal was confirmed to keep him at Brunton Park.

Jesse Lingard (Birmingham), Will Keane (Wigan), Davide Petrucci (Royal Antwerp), Federico Macheda (Doncaster), Tyler Blackett (Blackpool) and Ben Amos (Carlisle) have all returned to Old Trafford.

Four other players remain out on loan in longer-term deals - Bebe (Pacos de Ferreira), Angelo Henriquez (Real Zaragoza), Marnick Vermijl (NEC Nijmegen) and Nick Powell (Wigan).

Powell rescues loan club



FA Cup holders Wigan Athletic retained their place in this season’s competition thanks to the heroics of Manchester United youngster Nick Powell, who came off the bench to score twice in Tuesday’s 3-1 win at MK Dons.

The 19-year-old was brought on as a substitute after an hour and promptly transformed the third-round replay, leveling the scores with 11 minutes remaining after former Reds midfielder Luke Chadwick had put the League One side ahead at Stadium MK.

Powell then added his second one minute into extra-time with a sublime dink over David Martin after bursting through the Dons defence, a lovely goal that was quickly followed by a killer blow from Latics forward Marc-Antoine Fortune.

Notably, Powell has now scored 10 goals since joining Wigan on a season-long loan in the summer, adding to his burgeoning reputation. Speaking after Tuesday’s cup win, Latics boss Uwe Rosler was full of praise for the former Crewe Alexandra starlet.

“It was always the plan to bring Nick on if he was needed and he was needed,” Rosler told reporters. “He is 19, getting first-team football in the Championship and fighting for the play-offs.

"He is playing here, where the pressure is on. I have to be very careful that we do not burn him out. I think it is good for us and Manchester United. Hopefully, after the season is finished, they will get a player back with more experience of top “What excites me about Nick is he can play everywhere. He came on as a midfielder, then I put him up front and, in many games, I play him in a wide position coming inside and I can play him as a number nine because he has a tremendous physique.”

Rosler, whose team are 10th in the Championship table, has also revealed United manager David Moyes has been keeping regular tabs on Powell and will expect a further update on his progress later this month.

“We speak regularly,” the German boss told reporters. “David Moyes knows me very well. He knows his players will be well looked after. We agreed we'll have another talk in the last week of January. The player is happy, David is happy and I'm very happy. So I hope it continues.”
