Default Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs West Ham

22/02/2010 14:07 - ManUtd.com, Gemma Thompson
Match Pack: West Ham

After defeat at Everton, United will want to bounce back with a victory over the Hammers who are chasing a third successive win...

Form guide: United's 3-1 defeat at Everton - their sixth of the campaign - was their first league loss since the 3-0 reverse at Fulham in mid-December. The Reds will be buoyed by their recent record against West Ham which has yielded four wins from four. The Hammers remain just four points off the relegation zone, but back-to-back wins over Birmingham and Hull have boosted confidence in Zola's squad. Nevertheless, they have struggled on their travels this season, winning just one of 13 away games.

Ins and outs: The Reds are without the suspended Nani and the injured Ryan Giggs (arm), but Rio Ferdinand is available after completing a four-match ban. He could partner Nemanja Vidic - who was on the bench at Everton - following the Serbian's recovery from a niggling calf problem. West Ham are still without the injured Luis Boa Morte, Zavon Hines and Herita Ilunga (all knee), Callum Davenport (leg) and Danny Gabbidon (hamstring), while Benni McCarthy (knee) is a doubt. Kieron Dyer could be in contention for a return after coming through training over the weekend.

Star man: Carlton Cole is the Hammers' leading goalscorer this season with nine goals, including two in his last two games. The England international, who began his career with Chelsea, is a powerful and pacey striker who can be a real handful for defenders.

Manager: Zola arrived at Upton Park in September 2008 and, despite a sticky start, led the Hammers to ninth in the table last season. They struggled early on this season, winning just one of their opening ten league games and the Italian's quest to steady the Hammers' ship was not helped by a string of injuries to key players and the continuing financial uncertainty surrounding the club. The recent takeover by the two Davids - Gold and Sullivan - has helped bring some welcome stability to the club, off the pitch at least.

Referee: Alan Wiley was last in charge of a United game at the end of last year when the Reds won 3-1 at Hull on 27 December. He also officiated United's 2-2 draw against Sunderland and the Reds' 1-0 defeat at Burnley back in August. Wiley has handed out four red cards in 28 games, including one to Sunderland's Kieran Richardson in the clash with United at Old Trafford.

Rivals watch: United and West Ham are the only teams in action this week after the fixture was rearranged from this weekend due to United's involvement in the Carling Cup final on Sunday. Chelsea host Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime, while Arsenal travel to Stoke for the day's tea-time kick-off.

Referee: Alan Wiley

Manchester United (2nd) v West Ham United (13th)

Manchester United will be aiming to bounce back from defeat at Everton while the Hammers are looking for a third consecutive win.

Man Utd team news

Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic could be back to bolster Manchester United's Barclays Premier League title challenge.

Sir Alex Ferguson has not had his first-choice central defensive partnership available since October but with Ferdinand now clear of suspension and Vidic over the nerve problem that has prevented him making an appearance in 2010, both men are expected to start against the Hammers.

With the Carling Cup final on Sunday, Ferguson might have been tempted to rest Wayne Rooney but that hardly seems likely in the wake of Saturday's defeat at Everton which left the Red Devils four points adrift of Chelsea. Nani is still suspended.

West Ham team news

West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola has doubts over striker Benni McCarthy. The South Africa star, who signed for the Hammers on the last day of the January transfer window, has been out with a knee problem since the 2-1 defeat at Burnley on 10th February.

England midfielder Kieron Dyer and defender Danny Gabbidon (both hamstring) are not yet fully fit.

Herita Ilunga is set to miss out with a tendon injury while Luis Boa Morte (knee), Calum Davenport (leg) and Zavon Hines (knee) are all long-term absentees.

squads

Manchester United: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Foster, Neville, Brown, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Park, Anderson, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson, Rooney, Owen, Berbatov, Diouf.

West Ham United: Green, Stech, Spector, Faubert, Tomkins, Da Costa, Daprela, Parker, Behrami, Kovac, Collison, Diamanti, Stanislas, Cole, Mido, Ilan, Franco.

lini pertahanan masih menjadi sorotan nih
mudah2an kombinasi yang diturunkan bener2 FIT 100% sehingga kosentrasi di lini belakang tak tergoyahkan oleh serangan2 balik terutama dari sisi kiri

The Red Devils Menyambut dengan Rendah Hati

PS. keep down to earth opa

Man. United Vs West Ham Preview

http://www.unitedonline.co.uk/news-a...le.php?id=3369

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is available for Tuesday's rearranged league game against West Ham after completing a four-match ban.

Central defensive partner Nemanja Vidic is fit after a nerve problem, so the pair could start together for the first time since October.

West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola has said he might make some changes to his side, despite back-to-back wins.

Benni McCarthy remains a doubt with the knee injury he suffered on his debut.

Team selection

Manchester United (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Foster, Neville, Brown, Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Park, Anderson, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Obertan, Gibson, Rooney, Owen, Berbatov, Diouf.

Suspended: Nani (two matches)

Injured: Giggs (arm), Hargreaves (knee), O'Shea (thigh)

West Ham (from): Green, Stech, Spector, Faubert, Upson, Tomkins, Da Costa, Daprela, Parker, Behrami, Kovac, Collison, Noble, Diamanti, Stanislas, Cole, Mido, Ilan, Franco, McCarthy.

Doubtful: McCarthy (knee)

Injured: Boa Morte, Hines & Ilunga (all knee), Davenport (leg), Dyer & Gabbidon (both hamstring)

Match Preview

Following the weekend wake-up call at Everton, Manchester United can ill afford another lethargic performance on their return to the Theatre of Dreams.

It is a collector's item when Sir Alex Ferguson admits to being well beaten, as he did on Saturday.

Ferguson might be thankful that this game has been brought forward, due to United's Wembley date in the Carling Cup final on Sunday. Tuesday's re-arranged fixture gives Ferguson's side the chance to put pressure on leaders Chelsea by narrowing the gap at the top to a point.

Visitors West Ham have not won away since the opening day of the season but they enjoyed their biggest win under Gianfranco Zola at home to Hull on Saturday, clinching back-to-back league victories for the first time since March 2009.

It is also that long ago since Manchester United lost successive league games. Suffering a similar fate on Tuesday is the nightmare scenario for the defending champions.
