Default [2017 Pre Season] Valerenga 0-3 Manchester United

PREVIEW: VALERENGA V MANCHESTER UNITED

So, United are back in Europe... That's right! Manchester United rounded off the American leg of Tour 2017, presented by Aon, on Wednesday, suffering a narrow defeat to FC Barcelona in Washington DC. The result won't take away from what have been very successful preparations so far, however, following victories over LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Manchester City and Real Madrid in the USA. Next on the pre-season agenda is a match against Norwegian side Valerenga in Oslo, which will be held at the 28,000-capacity Ullevaal Stadium this Sunday (30 July). Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 local time (18:00 BST).

How can I watch it? Fans who subscribe to MUTV on Sky or Virgin Media, the club’s MUTV app or online at the recently launched mutv.com have access to watch all of the team’s pre-season games. With no extra cost to subscribers, fans can watch all seven of United’s tour games live.

What happened in our previous tour games? Well, as mentioned, Jose Mourinho's men suffered a first defeat of the summer in midweek, going down to Neymar's first-half strike at FedEx Field. Before that, the Reds secured a shoot-out victory over Real, following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, and with David De Gea saving two spot-kicks on the way to victory. Last Thursday, the Reds claimed the bragging rights in the first-ever Manchester derby to be held outside of the UK, running out 2-0 winners over City in Houston thanks to first-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford. Just days earlier, Lukaku scored his first goal for the club during a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake, after Mourinho's men had kicked off this year's tour by breezing past LA Galaxy.

Any team news? Mourinho confirmed on Tuesday that Spain internationals Juan Mata and Ander Herrera will “probably” return from injury against Valerenga. Both players trained individually this week, while Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo remain long-term absentees. Young completed some light training ahead of the Barca clash, and is expected to return in October. Following news of Eric Bailly's European ban, the boss also revealed that Victor Lindelof is set to be partnered with Chris Smalling at the heart of the defence.

What about our opponents? Unlike United, Valerenga have already begun their domestic campaign. The Norwegian side secured a mid-table finish in the country's top tier, Tippeligaen, last season, and are currently seventh in the table after 16 games. Valerenga's official supporters club is the biggest in the country. 'Klanen' ('the Clan') are proud of their singing and will be an important part of the club's new 17,000-seater stadium, which is scheduled for completion in September. Valerenga have a link to United, too - Reds legend Ronny Johnsen returned to Norway after leaving Old Trafford and helped Valerenga to league success in 2005. We also drew 2-2 with them in a pre-season friendly in 1998, and 0-0 in 2012. Mourinho's men will be hoping to go one better on Sunday...

What else is coming up? Well, following the clash against Valerenga, United will complete Tour 2017 in Dublin, Ireland against Italian outfit Sampdoria. Then, it's the small matter of the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid in Macedonia on 8 August, before the new Premier League campaign gets under way. Check out our league opposition profiles in our 'Countdown to 2017/18' series in the lead-up to the big kick-off.

Default Re: [2017 Pre Season] Valerenga vs Manchester United

Match report pertemuan terakhir United dengan Valerenga sekitar 5 tahun lalu saat masih era SAF...

VALERENGA 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 0

Manchester United's pre-season preparations continued with a hard-fought, yet entertaining goalless draw with Valerenga in Norway.

Nemanja Vidic completed an hour's action in his first outing since last December, while several more senior players returned after a summer's exertions on the international stage. One of them, the lively Danny Welbeck, had the majority of United's clearer openings, but either failed to hit the target or met with the resistance of impressive Valerenga goalkeeper Gudmund Kongshavn. Substitutes Anderson and Chicharito both came close to nabbing late winners, while a half-hour cameo from Shinji Kagawa demonstrated the Japanese star's burgeoning understanding with his new attacking cohorts.

Assistant manager Mike Phelan took the helm in the absence of Sir Alex Ferguson, who remained in Manchester, and the stand-in gaffer was dealt a late selection dilemma when Patrice Evra returned home on Sunday morning to rejoin his wife, who had gone into labour. The result was an unexpected start for reigning Reserves Player of the Year, Michael Keane, at left-back. On the opposite flank, Antonio Valencia deputised while Nani slotted into the right wing berth ahead of the Ecuadorian. The Portuguese was one of four players making their first pre-season outing after partaking in the Euro 2012 - alongside Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young - while Phil Jones and David De Gea started on the bench.

It took until the 18th minute for the game's first noteworthy attempt, as Bojan Zajic flashed a 20-yard effort across Anders Lindegaard's goal, but the majority of the game had been spent in Valerenga's defensive third, with Danny Welbeck and Nani frequently involved, while Paul Scholes' metronomic passing dominated a game being conducted at three-quarter pace in the Norwegian sunshine.

Increasingly, United's attackers began to chance their arm. Young and Scholes had shots blocked and Rooney's free-kick struck the top of the wall, but the hosts' massed central defensive ranks proved difficult to navigate.

Valerenga responded with a Mohammed Fellah effort which hurtled over from 30 yards, but United finished the first half in the ascendancy, as Welbeck curled an effort comfortably wide from the edge of the area, had a volley deflected wide and then nodded a Rooney cross narrowly over the bar.

With five minutes of the opening period remaining, the England strike duo combined in delightful fashion as Rooney released Welbeck, only for the Longsight-born striker to lose control of the ball under heavy pressure. Then, twice before the break, Welbeck brought the best from goalkeeper Gudmund Kongshavn.

First, superb interplay between Nani and Valencia culminated in Kongshavn fending away Welbeck's arrowed snapshot, then the home stopper flung himself to his right to tip the striker's low effort around the post. Rooney glanced a superb Young cross past the post with United's final attempt of the half, but Ahmed Suleiman's header inched past Lindegaard's upright in injury-time as the interval arrived with the scoreline blank.

The deadlock might have been broken in the 50th minute, but Rooney couldn't get the requisite power or purchase on Nani's cross, and the striker's header drifted harmlessly over the bar. Fellah headed just wide from a similar position for the hosts, before Shinji Kagawa and Anderson were introduced at the expense of Welbeck and Vidic.

Both substitutes had a quick impact on play. Anderson's free-kick was well fielded by substitute goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld, before neat approach play from Kagawa culminated in Nani blasting over the bar. The hosts retained a threat, however, and Chuma Anene came close twice in quick succession; firstly as his shot was deflected wide by Michael Carrick, then secondly as his header was dramatically cleared off the line by Rooney.

It was always United who looked most likely to break the deadlock, however, and Valencia's drilled cross-shot came agonisingly close to putting the visitors ahead. That miss heralded another trio of changes, with Rooney, Scholes and Young making way for Chicharito, Jesse Lingard and Nick Powell. The little Mexican striker was inches away from turning in a late winner when Nani and Kagawa combined superbly, but Chicharito was just unable to reach the Japanese playmaker's fizzed cross.

With little more than a minute remaining, the same outcome met another slick United move. This time, after Kagawa had released Valencia, the Ecuadorian's cross was stabbed towards goal by Chicharito, only for Hirschfeld to trap the ball with his body.

He was beaten in injury-time as Anderson strode forward and unleashed a curling effort, but the Brazilian's shot also cleared the crossbar by a matter of millimetres, ensuring a goalless outcome.

Nevertheless, invaluable game-time for United's senior stars, including the all-important presence of skipper Vidic, constituted a largely positive afternoon's work on a tour which now heads to Gothenburg for a high-profile summit with Barcelona.

United: Lindegaard; Valencia, Vidic (Anderson 61), Ferdinand, M Keane; Nani, Carrick, Scholes (Powell 75), Young (Lingard 75); Rooney (Chicharito 76), Welbeck (Kagawa 61). Subs not used: De Gea, Jones, Berbatov, Macheda.

Default Re: [2017 Pre Season] Valerenga vs Manchester United

VALERENGA 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 3

Tour 2017, presented by Aon | Ullevaal Stadion | Att: TBC | Scorers: Fellaini 44, Lukaku 47, McTominay 70
.

Manchester United eased to a serene 3-0 victory over Valerenga as the European leg of Tour 2017, presented in Aon, began in Norway.

Marouane Fellaini opened the scoring on the cusp of half-time with a deflected header and his compatriot Romelu Lukaku doubled the lead within minutes of the restart.

Scott McTominay capped a rewarding afternoon’s work for the Reds by clipping home a third in the 70th minute.

Jose Mourinho made six changes to the side that lost narrowly to Barcelona in Washington DC and the Reds, clad in grey, started brightly under gloomy, overcast Oslo skies.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan led the first assault on the Valerenga goal but could only find the keeper when sent clear by a probing Juan Mata pass in the third minute.

United dominated possession throughout a comfortable first half, with Paul Pogba as the chief inspiration. The effervescent Frenchman peppered the opposition goal with an array of shots, and his lifted, curling left-foot effort, which struck the Norwegians’ post, was the pick of United’s attempts prior to Fellaini’s opener.

The half appeared to be drifting towards a sedate close when the Belgian stooped to meet Mkhitaryan’s cross and head it home via a deflection to give United the lead.

Mourinho ordered nine changes at the break, as his team shifted from the 4-1-4-1 shape of the first period to 3-5-2.

A thunderous Lukaku header from a swirling Andreas Pereira corner made it 2-0 just after the restart and gave United’s imposing new striker his third pre-season goal.

Academy graduate Scott McTominay added a third after replacing the imperious Pogba, who delighted the rapt crowd throughout with his full repertoire of deft, creative touches. Valerenga barely threatened the United goal all evening, as the visitors made it five wins from six thus far during the pre-season period.

THE LINE-UPS

Valerenga: Kwaresey, Lundstrom (Gleditsch 64), Tollas, Jaager, Juklerod, Lekven, Agyiri, Zahid (Borchgrevink 80), Fredheim Holm, Ejuke, Finne.

Booked: Lundstrom, Ibrahim.

United first half: Romero, Darmian, Bailly, Jones, Blind, Carrick (c), Fellaini, Pogba, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford.

United second half: Romero (J. Pereira 61), Fosu-Mensah, Lindelof, Smalling, Tuanzebe, Mitchell, Pogba (c) (McTominay 61), Herrera, A. Pereira, Martial, Lukaku.

Booked:
A. Pereira.

TALKING POINT: POGBA IN MESMERISING FORM

After United were defeated by Barcelona in the final match of the tour's US leg, Jose Mourinho boldly remarked that Paul Pogba had showed he belonged at the ‘level’ of Messi, Neymar, Suarez et al. And few among an awed crowd at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo would disagree with that assertion on this evening’s evidence. Pogba’s 61 minutes on the pitch lent a certain air of electricity to what was otherwise a somewhat placid workout for the Reds. United’s world-record signing displayed a dizzying catalogue of swivels, feints and ingenious touches and looks to be benefiting from the kind of full pre-season that he missed out on in 2016. Familiarly, Pogba found the woodwork with his best effort on goal, but the midfielder appears to be in fine fettle as the Reds build up to the UEFA Super Cup final and the start of the Premier League campaign.

MOURINHO'S VIEWS ON VICTORY OVER VALERENGA

The Manchester United squad headed to Oslo on Sunday for the European leg of Tour 2017, presented by Aon, and Jose Mourinho was pleased to see his side run out comfortable winners over Norwegian side Valerenga.

Here's what the manager had to say about the match and the performances of his two summer signings so far, when speaking to reporters at his post-match press conference...

OVERALL THOUGHTS

"I am satisfied. I thank Ronny [Deila] and these boys [Valerenga] for the game they gave us and I thank the ref because they had a very professional training session. Of course, Champions League referees are top quality referees. It was good for us because it was a good pitch and the opponents were very well organised, trying to play from the back. After the United States, and matches where we were struggling with jet lag, it was a good game for us where I could play each player for 45 minutes. Now, with one more step, a little rest and the Sampdoria match and then the official season starts and, until now, we have no injuries. So let’s see if we can start the official season with this positive situation."

LUKAKU SCORED AGAIN

"It's nice. You know strikers, they like to score goals. It’s not important for me but probably it’s important for him. It’s important for his confidence and for his self-esteem. Strikers like to score goals; us managers, many times we are happy with them even when they don’t score, because of the way they participate in the team organisation and game plans. But, for them, to score their goals is always important."

LINDELOF'S PROGRESS SO FAR

"Step by step. Benfica is a giant club, I always think that players coming from Benfica come mentally ready because it is a big club and the responsibility to play for them makes players ready. But the Portuguese league is different and has different qualities. Benfica is one of the dominant teams, so he’s more used to playing with the ball than without the ball, so he needs his time and we are going to give him his time to develop. Such a young player needs time. Manchester United is a huge club with huge responsibility; the Premier League is the same. So let’s give him time, but we’re happy with what he is doing, step by step."
