Default Manchester United's All-Time Handsome XI

Manchester United's All-Time Handsome XI

Manchester United have been represented by the good, the bad and the ugly over the years.

In the immediate aftermath of Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, lists of best and worst United teams seemed to appear all over the place. Not many people have attempted this, though.

This list is merely a bit of fun. If the very concept appalls you and you're tempted to write something homophobic in the comments section, don't bother. You're better than that.

Here, then, is Manchester United's all-time handsome XI.

David De Gea

Not much competition between the posts though this writer always had something of a soft spot for Edwin van der Sar and his rather fetching haircut.

De Gea has gone from strength to strength since he joined United and his affection for the music of Metallica can only be considered a bonus.

Rafael

Not only has Rafael had his best season since joining United, but he's also secured the right back position in this side.

Rafael and his twin brother, Fabio, are like the younger sibling you always consider a small child no matter old they become. The pair are 22 going on eight. For all that, the drastic haircut was a mistake.

Nemanja Vidic

There aren't exactly an abundance of handsome centre-backs in football, let alone in Manchester United history.

Vidic is not an obvious choice, but growing his hair out has aided the no-nonsense Serbian no end this season. And he's certainly a cut above Steve Bruce.

Gerard Pique

Pique might not have stayed long at United before returning to Barcelona to fulfil his childhood dream, but he's still found his way into the centre of defence in this side.

The young Spaniard has done alright for himself all things considered—not only is he a Barcelona player but he's also Mr. Shakira.

Clayton Blackmore

The Welsh full-back with the look of a '40s film star, Blackmore still works for the club in a coaching capacity. His free-kicks will live long in the memory, but he probably wouldn't be on set-piece duty in this team.

George Best

The first true celebrity footballer, Best was a charismatic and handsome winger with all the natural ability in the world.

The Belfast boy was the closest football has ever had to a rock and roll star and the Portuguese media even went so far as to nickname him "the fifth Beatle". All this, and he made beards cool years before Andrea Pirlo.

David Beckham

The man who turned an entire nation metrosexual, David Beckham utilised his looks as well as his playing ability to forge out a career at some of the biggest clubs in the world.

A fun game to play while bored on a rainy day—select your favourite Beckham haircuts from years gone by. Hours of fun for all the family.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo left United unrecognisable from the skinny teenager who joined the club from Sporting Lisbon in 2003.

The most expensive player in the world has repeatedly been voted the sexiest footballer alive. He's not too bad at actually playing the game either.

Lee Sharpe

Before Ryan Giggs and David Beckham, there was Lee Sharpe.

The first United poster-boy, Sharpey's infectious smile and iconic goal celebrations endeared him to the Old Trafford faithful and hordes of female admirers.

Dimitar Berbatov

Handsome in a vampiric kind of way, Berba may not quite have emulated Eric Cantona on the pitch during his spell at United, but he just manages to nudge the mercurial Frenchman out of a starting place in this lineup.

Berbatov is an artist in an artisan's game, a smoker with the air of a film star setting the Premier League alight when the mood takes him.

Javier Hernandez

The little pea with the big heart, Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez tends to sport a grin as wide as Kenny Dalglish's backside.

The Mexican has an uncanny ability to score goals and appears to be a rare footballer interested in being a good person as well as a good sportsman. Cantona can consider himself unfortunate not to find himself in the starting lineup, but how could anyone possibly resist that smile?
