Itu ke gawang West Ham .... Satu lagi yg gagal ke gawang Aston Villa kah (United were even able to survive a missed penalty, as keeper Michael Oakes brilliantly denied Denis Irwin) |

___________________________ 01/02/2013 19:00 - ManUtd.com, Nick Coppack Rooney reveals penalty chat Wayne Rooney has revealed it was his decision – not Sir Alex Ferguson’s – to stop taking Manchester United’s penalties. The striker told*MUTV he met with the Reds boss following his FA Cup third round replay miss against West Ham to inform the manager he wished to pass spot-kick duties to Robin van Persie. Rooney, who’s missed nine of the 28 penalties he’s taken in a United shirt since his arrival from Everton in 2004, acknowledged his recent record wasn’t good enough. Seven of those misses have come since the start of 2010, including two – against West Ham and Arsenal –*this season. “To be honest, it was my choice,” Rooney revealed when asked if he was disappointed to have been relieved of penalty duties. “It wasn't good enough. I went in to speak with the manager and said I'd spoken with Robin [van Persie] and told him he could take them. “At a club like this, to miss two penalties like I did and not hit the target, it wasn't good enough.” Following the England striker’s conversation with Sir Alex, United were subsequently awarded a penalty against Fulham in the FA Cup fourth round. But with Robin van Persie on the bench, responsibility fell to veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs to dispatch the ball from 12 yards. He made no mistake, slotting home past Mark Schwarzer to give United an early lead. Rooney's admission suggests it's likely he won't take the Reds' next spot-kick, although Sir Alex remains confident the striker will, at some point, return to*penalty-taking duties. Quote:

Re: 2012/13 United's Penalty Kick record
Just three penalties scored from 10 and every Englishman missed – was this the WORST shootout ever?
Manchester United's defeat by Sunderland in their Capital One Cup semi-final second leg came courtesy of a penalty shootout. Of the 10 penalties taken, only three hit the back of the net – Darren Fletcher for United, and Marcos Alonso and Ki Sung-yueng for the visitors to give them a 2-1 victory and a place in the final at Wembley. Worryingly for England boss Roy Hodgson, those taken by Englishmen Craig Gardner, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones and Adam Johnson were all awful. Despair: Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea knows it was a bad night for his team Says it all: Phil Jones' facial expression captured the emotions of the United fans watching his penalty And Steven Fletcher's, Adnan Januzaj's and Rafael's efforts were just as bad. Just like Jason Puncheon's recent woeful effort for Crystal Palace at Tottenham, Gardner's, Welbeck's and Jones' were embarrassingly off target, while Fletcher, Januzaj and Rafael gave keepers David de Gea and Vito Mannone the easiest of saves. You need to be cold and focused to succeed from the penalty spot, but at Old Trafford the players were anything but. The worst penalty shootout of all time? Almost, but not quite... Quote:
Setting the tone: Englishman Craig Gardner fired straight over from the evening's first penalty Embarrassing: Only Danny Welbeck knows where he was aiming when this effort went high and wide As soft as silk: Steven Fletcher's penalty was completely lacking in power, making it easy to save On target: Darren Fletcher provided some relief, but he was the only United player not to miss Best of a bad bunch? Sunderland defender Marcos Alonso produced a far better finish than most Pathetic: Adnan Januzaj gave Sunderland keeper Vito Mannone the easiest of saves Back of the net: Ki Sung-yueng scored the last penalty of the evening... worryingly Appalling: Phil Jones' effort was so bad it almost made Danny Welbeck's look okay... almost Tipping over: David de Gea did well to save but Adam Johnson's penalty was a big disappointment The decider: Vito Mannone saved easily from Rafael, who's been disappointing this season for United Code:
