Default Re: Memandang Masa Depan Manchester United

Meet the Manchester United of 2015

In the year he turns 70, Sir Alex Ferguson’s commitment to the future remains as strong as ever. Even with his powers of endurance, the United manager cannot hope to see Phil Jones and David de Gea reach their peak at Old Trafford.

And in a summer that he hopes to sign the players who will win him at least one more Champions League before he retires, the fact Ferguson is willing to commit around £35m of his budget on youth speaks volumes for his determination to keep United at the top long after his reign comes to an end.

Jones is set to complete his £16.5m move from Blackburn and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper De Gea is all set to join the Reds for £18.3m after the Under-21 European Championships.

While the 20-year-old Spaniard is expected to be installed as United’s No1 next season, 19-year-old central defender Jones is very much one for the future. His best hopes next season could come playing as a defensive midfielder or as cover for Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling at the back. But he is certainly not the player Ferguson had in mind when he spoke of rising to the challenge of breaking Barcelona’s dominance next year.

In the long-term, yes. And so exceptional is Jones’ potential that United were prepared to move for him 12 months earlier than expected to avoid losing him to rivals Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham.

By next summer City, too, may have stepped up the tentative interest they have shown in the England Under-21 international in the past.

Ferguson has never been afraid to alter his plans in extreme circumstances – and the prospect of losing a player considered the new John Terry was enough to temporarily avert his focus from his immediate targets in a summer of rebuilding at the Premier League champions.

He wants the players who can challenge Barcelona right away in the Champions League and hold off the threat of City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool domestically.

England international Ashley Young, Inter Milan’s Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder and Tottenham’s Luka Modric are seen as pivotal to creating a team that can win a 20th league title and reach a fourth Champions League final in five years.

Jack Rodwell is another player Ferguson has monitored for some time, but the signing of Jones may force him into a rethink over another young Englishman who can play in central midfield and defence.

Liverpool interest

Not even Liverpool’s interest in Sunderland and England midfielder Jordan Henderson could tempt Ferguson to step in with a firm bid for a player he had asked to be kept informed about, because of other priorities.

He is conscious he’s lost a wealth of experience from his squad already this summer.

The retirements of Paul Scholes, Edwin van der Sar and Gary Neville, release of Owen Hargreaves and the expected exits of Wes Brown and possibly John O’Shea has robbed him of title-winning knowhow aplenty.

But even after winning a record 19th title and reaching the final of the Champions League, there has been a growing feeling at United that last season was the final hurrah for much of the squad.

Ferguson has known for some time he would be given the biggest transfer budget in his 25 years at Old Trafford and spent the last 12 months identifying the players who could keep the trophies rolling in the immediate and long-term.

He has more than £100m to spend and is set to recoup a sizeable chunk from the sales of a host of fringe players, including Brown, Tomasz Kuszczak, Darron Gibson, Mame Biram Diouf and possibly Gabriel Obertan. The Under-21 Championships in Denmark will give a tantalising glimpse into United’s future even beyond Ferguson.

As well as new recruit Jones, Stuart Pearce’s England squad includes Smalling, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck. De Gea will keep goal for Spain.

United also have Brazilians Fabio and Rafael Da Silva, who have already made an impact in the first team, as well as Italian Federico Macheda.

Should all continue their rate of improvement then United have more than the nucleus of team for a decade.

Add to them the clutch of exciting talent from the FA Youth Cup success last season in Paul Pogba, Ravel Morrison, John Coffie and Will Keane, and Ferguson will know the club is in safe hands even after he retires.

He also retains an interest in Southampton’s outstanding teenage winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and 18-year-old Lens defender Raphael Varane.

GGU!

Ferguson 'depressed' by rioting youths but insists United kids are all right

Sir Alex Ferguson has lamented the state of our nation's youth after riots across the country blighted a week in which Manchester United's young players came of age.

The manner in which Tom Cleverley helped to transform Sunday's Community Shield against rivals Manchester City at Wembley alongside Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Danny Welbeck could save United as much as £35million after Ferguson confirmed he will not be investing in Wesley Sneijder or any other new signings before the end of the transfer window.

But it was the price being paid for the ugly side of youth that was troubling the Old Trafford boss on Friday as United prepared to open the season on Sunday in West Bromwich, one of the areas hit by rioting and civil unrest.
'It's been an absolutely depressing week when you see the things happening in our country,' said Ferguson.

'The really disturbing thing when you think what the hell is going on is, is that here you have an Olympic athlete, an assistant school teacher and a millionaire's daughter involved.
'What are their parents thinking at this very moment in time? Have they no pride in their upbringing? And their grandparents? Deary me.
'They really want to wake up and appreciate the society they're in and what their parents have done for them. It's depressing.'

The future could not look much brighter at Old Trafford, however, after Ferguson's youngsters inspired United to overturn a two-goal deficit against City.
The performance of Cleverley, in particular, justified the manager's decision to abandon his bid to sign Inter Milan midfielder Sneijder, as revealed in Sportsmail on Friday.
'When you are 2-0 down in the big games you don't expect what you saw,' admitted Ferguson.

'Welbeck has two or three times at Wembley for us, but what we wanted to find out was how Jones, Smalling and Cleverley equipped themselves – and they did fantastic.
'There has always been an emphasis on young players at this club. If they have the ability and the temperament, there's only one thing you can do and that's play them.
'When you take our roll call of players, I'm certainly not looking to add to that.'

Asked if that meant United fans can forget about Sneijder, Ferguson added: 'You can forget anyone you like, I'm happy with the young players I've got.'
The United boss defended his new £17.8m goalkeeper David De Gea, who came under fire for the way he conceded both City's goals at Wembley.
Ferguson was particularly concerned that De Gea was criticised for failing to cut out the free-kick that led to Joleon Lescott's opener, and yet no questions were asked of City's England international Joe Hart when Chris Smalling scored a similar goal for United.

'It was interesting there was no criticism of Joe Hart,' said Ferguson. 'It was exactly the same type of goal, and he's your bloody national goalkeeper.
'The goalkeeper has absolutely no chance when the ball gets whipped in like that. It only needs a fraction of a touch and the goalkeeper's dead.
'If he comes for it, he looks silly. He's just got to hope that the defenders deal with it and our defenders didn't deal with it.'

Ferguson confirmed that De Gea will start the season at the Hawthorns, even though the decision will disappoint Anders Lindegaard who feels that he has done enough to win over his manager and the rest of the Old Trafford dressing-room.
'I'm proud to have created a debate over the goalkeeper position but I want more than that, I want to play regularly,' said Lindegaard.
'It's been challenging. The hierarchy in the dressing-room is based on how often you play and how good you are.
'It's only over the last month or so that I have felt accepted, and where I feel I have found my place in the group.'

MU Siapkan Kontrak Baru buat Welbeck & Cleverley

Dilaporkan The Sun, MU kini tengah menyiapkan rancangan kontrak baru buat kedua pemain mudanya itu.

20th Manchester United title? Just take it as Red

M.E.N. Sport's Stuart Mathieson cannot see anyone surpassing the magical powers of Sir Alex Ferguson in this season's top-flight battle. Here he argues why:

MANAGER/TACTICS

Sir Alex Ferguson 12, Premier League bosses 4! That’s the emphatic title scoreline the Reds boss has racked up against his counterparts contesting the top flight this season.

Arsene Wenger makes up three-quarters of that tally but the Frenchman is now in disarray at Arsenal.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has a 1995 Premier League crown on his CV but his Anfield title wins as a manager were over two decades ago in 1986, 88 and 1990. No mean achievements but they were pre-EPL.

City’s Roberto Mancini has three Serie A triumphs to call on and that cannot be dismissed but it’s not the cut and thrust of the battle for England’s crown.

The rest of Fergie’s managerial opponents can offer little except a smattering of triumphs, like Roy Hodgson’s Danish Super League with Copenhagen a decade ago and Swedish titles with Malmo in the 80s.

So, from August to May, there is no boss with a fatter wad of detailed notes to call on to tackle the marathon campaign. Whereas everyone else’s wells of knowledge are shallow, Fergie’s is bottomless.

Even the most ardent United fan concedes that turning last season’s squad into champions was a remarkable feat and, if Fergie can engineer success in that kind of campaign, then he can do it in any.

It might not have been vintage but the United manager called on all his experience to squeeze success out of a pool of players who were at one time being dubbed the worst he had assembled and even had Wayne Rooney doubting the future!

Could anyone else have survived a traumatic campaign like that when your number one asset wanted away and the Reds could barely buy a win away from old Trafford?

Only Fergie could have done that and it injected a syringe full of belief into the club. Tactically Ferguson knows how to play the Premier League. He knows when to freshen up his team and when to stick with it. He knows when rivals need to experience a touch of mind games and when to leave it alone.

SQUAD STRENGTH

The numbers don’t really add up. How can you lose six players, import three and promote two and yet still appear to be stronger?

When the final whistle sounded at Wembley in the Champions League final, it officially called time on Paul Scholes and Edwin van der Sar’s careers. Gary Neville was up in the Sky TV studio, three months into his new career.

John O’Shea and Wes Brown didn’t make the 17 against Barcelona. They didn’t know it at the time but their United career figures had already halted. Owen Hargreaves had already emptied his Carrington locker before the final.

The loss of that kind of experience was immeasurable.

Even though more than £50m was spent on David de Gea, Ashley Young and Phil Jones, many critics, and let’s be honest United fans, were sceptical that the half-dozen departures had adequately been replaced.

Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley’s elevation to senior status made the numbers look better but were the champions stronger?

Somehow, Penn and Teller-style – or Paul Daniels, if you prefer – Ferguson has managed to make it appear so.

Freshness and youthful exuberance has replaced aged know-how and United’s bench against Arsenal, with five starters from the Champions League final, contained £70m of talent and players who’d won 25 League titles between them.

If the new young blood hits the wall sometime in autumn, Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia,

Ji-sung Park and Michael Owen will be gagging to take over.

Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic too will be around to step in.

That’s virtually a whole side who’ve only had two starts between them this term. Looks pretty strong to me.

KEY PLAYERS

The emphasis will be how the newcomers will cope with the demands of the marathon title battle. They have a spring in their steps now but once the dark nights come and the inevitable blips occur, how will they cope?

New goalkeeper David de Gea’s penalty-saving and shot-stopping against Arsenal has comforted Reds fans after the Spaniard’s heart-in-mouth start in the community Shield and at West Brom.

After six years of the security of having Edwin van der Sar, the 20-year-old’s settling-in period has to be minimal. United cannot afford the trauma of the post-Peter Schmeichel era.

But his performance against the Gunners will surely wipe the haunted look off his face.

Phil Jones may have to take a breather and make way for Ferdinand or Vidic at some point but the 19-year-old has the body language of a player who will not be thrown off kilter by anything that is hurled at him.

Ashley Young has arguably been the unsung hero of United’s opening.

For those fans looking for Modric, Nasri or Sneijder this summer, the arrival of the 26-year-old from Aston Villa didn’t exactly set the pulse racing. Yes, the winger was exciting but Fergie’s title winners were quite well stocked in that department with Nani and Valencia.

Nonetheless, he has added a freshness and goal threat to United’s width and has struck up a rapport with Rooney that looks lively and dangerous.

And so to Mr Rooney. Twelve months ago it was all mystery, doom, gloom and droughts before the storm broke and the root of his unhappiness was revealed.

There were even questions as the whether the England striker’s career had peaked.

Clearly not. He’s back insatiable and inspiring.

PEDIGREE

Losing the medal haul of United’s retirees and sales during the summer has blown a huge hole in the champions’ know-how.

Those who left took with them a stunning 33 Premier League title mementoes.

But Brown, Neville and Hargreaves didn’t really contribute to the record 19th title. O’Shea had two months out and, by his own admission, Scholes wasn’t the influence he had been. So the bulk who brought home the record title win are still at the club.

Even allowing for the departures, no other side can boast such a deep well of knowledge.

"It is great to see people like Jones and Smalling coming through and playing in the best league in the world and we need more of those players."
Dion Dublin Quotes of the week
Blend it like United
'Ideal combination gives Sir Alex strong chance of silverware'

skysports - September 1, 2011 11:34am

Fresh start: De Gea, Jones and Young in New Jersey

Manchester United have the perfect mix of youth and experience to defend their Premier League title after making key acquisitions during the transfer window, according to Dion Dublin.

The former Red Devils striker believes the arrivals of defender Phil Jones, 20, goalkeeper David de Gea, 20, and winger Ashley Young, 26, gives Sir Alex Ferguson's squad a fresh dimension following the retirements of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, in February and May respectively.

"They are not weaker," Dublin told Sky Sports News HD. "People say you can't win trophies with young players but what they've got at the helm are players like Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs; they are actually steering the ship at the moment.

"Then you've got players like [Tom] Cleverly, [Chris] Smalling and Jones who have just come through to the fore and they are being steered by Rio and Giggs.

"Sir Alex is the boss - he takes charge - but in the dressing room he leaves it to the seniors and the young players respond to them.

"It is great to see people like Jones and Smalling coming through and playing in the best league in the world and we need more of those players."

De Gea has endured a mixed start to his United career, saving Robin van Persie's penalty in United's 8-2 victory over Arsenal at the weekend after coming in for criticism for his performances against Manchester City, in the Community Shield, and West Brom in the Premier League.

But Dublin has no doubts that the Spaniard, signed for £18m from Atlético Madrid, will rise to the challenge.

"He's only 20-years-old. Unfortunately for him he has replaced a goalkeeper who was double his age and absolutely world-class. De Gea is potentially going to be that good," he said.

"I think it is a time issue, it is a pressure issue. Can he handle the pressure of putting the goalkeeping equivalent of the red shirt on at Manchester United every week? I think he can and I think he will."

Loss

Arsenal swelled their ranks on transfer window deadline day by signing Yossi Benayoun on loan from Chelsea and making a late, successful bid for Everton's Mikel Arteta.

However, Dublin is not optimistic about the Gunners' chances of mounting a strong title challenge following the loss of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.

"You will never make up for the loss of players of that quality unless you spend the same kind of money. Arteta is a very, very good player - he will make a difference to Arsenal, but one player can't make a team.

"I don't think he [Wenger] panicked. He had to do something; they wouldn't be his first-choice signings, I would have thought. Arteta has probably been on the radar for quite some time.

"But he had to do something about what happened on Sunday - I imagine if he watches that video back all he can see is abysmal performances by a huge football team."

Of the other last-minute moves, Dublin described Liverpool's capture of Craig Bellamy as "very shrewd" and Chelsea's swoop for Raul Meireles as "clever".

"I think Bellamy has got a lot to offer in the game," he said. "Liverpool are bringing in the right kind of player to fit Mr Dalglish's way of wanting to play. He will add massively to that squad and give more service to Carroll.

"Chelsea's squad just gets stronger - it's a star-studded array of talent. If they don't get anything this year, they are going to be in trouble so there is pressure on."
