EARLY TEAM NEWS FOR WATFORD CLASH

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a number of injury concerns to contend with ahead of Manchester United’s return to Premier League action against Watford this weekend.

The Reds will be back at Old Trafford for the first time since our 3-2 win over Southampton on 2 March, when Javi Gracia’s in-form Hornets side visit on Saturday (kick-off 15:00 GMT).

We assess where the squad is at following the final international break of the season and the options which could be at Ole’s disposal…

GOALKEEPERS

David De Gea, who helped Spain beat Norway 2-1 last Saturday but sat out Tuesday's 2-0 win at Malta, is expected to return in goal to maintain his ever-present record in the Premier League this season. He would replace Sergio Romero, who impressed in our Emirates FA Cup tie at Wolves before the break but wasn’t involved in Argentina’s friendlies against Venezuela and Morocco.

DEFENDERS

Ashley Young is back in contention to face his former club on Saturday after serving an FA Cup suspension against Wolves last time out. Eric Bailly reportedly suffered a head injury on duty for Ivory Coast during their 3-0 win over Rwanda, in which he scored his second international goal, and didn't play in Tuesday's 1-0 friendly victory over Liberia. Victor Lindelof didn’t go away with Sweden, however club captain Antonio Valencia, who hasn’t featured for the Reds since our 2-0 win at Newcastle on 2 January, returned to action for Ecuador in Friday's 1-0 defeat against the USA but didn't feature in Tuesday's goalless draw against Honduras. It remains to be seen if Luke Shaw will be fit for Saturday’s game after the left-back withdrew from the England squad through injury. Phil Jones has also been an unused substitute in recent weeks, including at Wolves on 16 March, and could be closer to a first outing since our 3-0 win at Fulham on 9 February. Matteo Darmian hasn’t played since the 2-1 win over Brighton on 19 January, while Marcos Rojo still awaits his first appearance under Solskjaer but has been pictured training recently following his recovery from injury.

MIDFIELDERS

Nemanja Matic, who recently missed four successive games for United through injury, was ruled out of Serbia’s matches against Germany and Portugal during the break. Ander Herrera recovered from the injury which forced him off in the first half against Liverpool on 24 February to make his comeback at Molineux in our last match, while fellow Spaniard Juan Mata returned from the injury he also suffered against Liverpool as a late substitute against Wolves. Writing in his blog last Sunday, Juan said: “In terms of training sessions, this week has been a very positive one for me. I have made the most of the chance to get in top shape after making my return in the FA Cup not long ago. I am feeling good and I am looking forward to doing whatever I can to help the team as much as possible.”

FORWARDS

Solskjaer could have a selection dilemma in attack to contend with. Jesse Lingard, who returned to action against Wolves in our last game, wasn’t called up by England and instead worked on his fitness by training in Dubai. Marcus Rashford had to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s squad through injury and Anthony Martial also pulled out of his international commitments with France due to a recurring knee complaint. Romelu Lukaku sat out Belgium’s two Euro 2020 qualifiers with the foot injury which led to him missing our FA Cup tie at Wolves, while Ole has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez isn’t expected to return until late April after sustaining a knee injury in our last home game against Southampton.

Ole could give an update on the squad in his exclusive interview with MUTV or pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex on Friday, which you can follow in the Official Manchester United App.

UNITED V WATFORD: YOUR GUIDE TO THE GAME

Watford will provide the opposition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first match as permanent Manchester United manager when Premier League action returns to Old Trafford on Saturday.

In our last game before the international break, the Reds lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup - a result which meant Ole experienced successive defeats for the first time since becoming caretaker boss in December, following the 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in the league the previous weekend.

The clash against the Hornets offers United a chance to get back to winning ways and continue the battle for a top-four spot.

Watford have been in good form themselves of late and head to Old Trafford two weeks after qualifying for the semi-finals of the FA Cup, thanks to a 2-1 win over rivals Crystal Palace. The visitors are eighth in the Premier League table, one point behind seventh-placed Wolves.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the encounter...

HOW CAN I FOLLOW THE GAME?

The game kicks off at 15:00 GMT on Saturday. Subscribers to MUTV will be able to enjoy live build-up to the match from 13:30 GMT in the 'Match Day' programme, while you can also follow our coverage of the match on ManUtd.com and in the Official App, which you can download here.

WHAT IS THE TEAM NEWS?

Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic and Anthony Martial all withdrew from international duty through injury, while Romelu Lukaku was forced to do the same before Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifiers. Jesse Lingard also missed the Three Lions' double success over the break, while Victor Lindelof didn't travel for Sweden duty. It still remains to be seen whether they will be back in time for the clash against Javi Gracia’s men.

One player who seems certain to miss out is Alexis Sanchez, due to the knee problem he suffered during our 3-2 win over Southampton earlier this month. Antonio Valencia is back in contention after he played the full 90 minutes of Ecuador’s international friendly against the United States last week and Ashley Young could face his former club after missing the FA Cup tie at Wolves through suspension. Eric Bailly is also a doubt after missing Ivory Coast's friendly win over Ecuador on Tuesday night, just three days after reports suggested he picked up a head injury in a 3-0 win over Rwanda in which he scored his second international goal.

WHAT ABOUT WATFORD?

Hornets boss Gracia has an almost full-strength squad to pick from this weekend, as he confirmed in his press conference earlier this week. “All the internationals came back in good condition and all are ready to play,” claimed the 48-year-old. “[Jose] Holebas is available for the next game and Andre Gray had a small problem last week after the last game, but he’s been training all week and he’s ready.” The only man unavailable for Watford is former Reds midfielder Tom Cleverley. “We only have Tom [injured] in this moment with a problem in his calf,” said Gracia. “We will see his evolution next week, he has a problem. The rest of the players are available.”

HOW ARE WATFORD GETTING ON?

The Hornets are yet to take points off any of the Premier League’s top six away from home this season, but have won three out of their last five outings in all competitions. The two losses came at the hands of Liverpool and Manchester City, but their victory over Crystal Palace last time out handed them a much-needed boost heading into the game at Old Trafford. Before their losses to City and Liverpool though, Watford beat Leicester City and 2-1 and Cardiff City 5-1.

WHAT'S OUR RECORD LIKE AGAINST WATFORD?

We have locked horns with the Hertfordshire outfit 31 times in the past, with Watford winning just five times. The Reds have emerged victorious in 21 of those games and have drawn five. The last meeting came back in September, when we held onto a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road despite Nemanja Matic’s sending-off late in the game. Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling proved too much for Gracia’s men, and cancelled out Andre Gray's strike in the second half. United have lost only once to Watford since the inception of the Premier League, during the 2016/17 season.

WHO'S THE REFEREE?

Stuart Attwell will take charge of a United game for the fourth time this season. The last one he refereed was the 3-2 victory against Southampton in our previous home fixture earlier this month. Constantine Hatzidakis and Simon Long will be the assistants, while Anthony Taylor will be the fourth official.

Menang sih iya, bikin senang karena 3 poinnya.
Tapi agak bikin khawatir karena Unitednya lebih banyak digempur dan penampilannya juga ga begitu menjanjikan, apalagi udah dekat jelang vs Barcelona

'The dressing room was almost like a funeral': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in danger of losing Manchester United momentum as slender Watford victory flags up his squad's shortcomings

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first game as permanent manager was a win over Watford
* Manchester United took all three points but showed some weaknesses
* After conceding a late goal Solskjaer admitted the mood was sour afterwards
* Supporters unfurled a Solskjaer banner to celebrate his permanent switch

At the end of an afternoon that began as a celebration, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players were left feeling more than a little deflated.

'The dressing room was almost like a funeral,' confessed Manchester United's new permanent manager.

'They were all sat there and it was very quiet. They were disappointed in their performance. It's not like jubilation because we won and got the three points.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players were left a little deflated despite defeating Watford

'They all know this was below-par, which is great because you want players to be honest with themselves. We know we can play so much better.'

This was a day to remind Solskjaer just how much work needs to be done after signing a three-year contract last week.

Having been outplayed by Wolves in the FA Cup a fortnight ago, United came back from the international break and had a similar experience on their own patch against Watford. The scoreline was harsh on Javi Gracia's vibrant side who were on top for long periods.

'Lucky' and 'awful' were two words used by Luke Shaw to describe United, and it was hard to argue.

They return to Molineux in the Premier League on Tuesday night with every right to feel wary of a Wolves team that face Watford in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The Red Devils were made to work hard for the win, and showed some vulnerabilities in the tie

There is no mistaking the change in mood around Old Trafford. It was evident in the scene that greeted Solskjaer as he emerged into the sunshine as supporters unveiled a huge new 20LEGEND banner across the Stretford End, and it was still there at the end despite the nature of this victory.

But after back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Wolves, and a fortuitous win over Watford, the momentum he has brought to his old club is in danger of being lost if United cannot raise their game over the remaining seven Premier League fixtures and a highly-anticipated Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.

'We want to end the season on a high,' said Solskjaer. 'We've been the best team since just before Christmas with the amount of points we've got.

'We've played most of the teams. By the end of the league, then we will have played everyone in my reign and that's maybe a truer reflection of where we stand.'

After Louis van Gaal criticised Solskjaer for 'parking the bus' last week, United looked at their best on the counter-attack here.

The first goal came from Shaw's excellent through ball into the path of Marcus Rashford who beat Ben Foster with a confident finish.

The feeling is that Solskjaer has no choice but to play this way in certain games because of the shortcomings in the squad he inherited. But were Van Gaal's comments unfair?

'Louis van Gaal is entitled to his opinion,' he replied. 'The foundation in any team is to play well without the ball. If that's high, low, medium pressure, sometimes we have to vary that.

'If you can attack quickly like we did today, why not? As long as your intention is to attack when you win the ball.'

Anthony Martial bundled in the second after he picked himself off the floor before Foster to score.

The former United keeper worked under Solskjaer in United's reserve team after being 'bombed out of the first team' by Sir Alex Ferguson towards the end of his time at Old Trafford, and knows just what the Norwegian brings to the role.

'Everybody loves playing for him,' said Foster. 'You go out on the pitch with a smile on your face and a spring in your step.

'Management nowadays has evolved where players know what they're doing. They just need somebody who can instil confidence and tell them they're doing a good job.

'That's what they've been lacking in the last couple of years. It just seems a happier environment and that's what Ole brings.'

Abdoulaye Doucoure's goal came too late to make a difference, but it gave Watford some reward for a fine performance that augurs well for Wembley next weekend.

First, there is a home game against Fulham and Gracia is confident his players will stay focused on finishing as high up the table as possible after dropping two places to 10th.

'I know what a big game it is for this club but we are in this situation because we've always given importance to the next game,' said Gracia. 'Now Fulham is the most important. We want to compete until the end for the position we are in at this moment.'
