Re: Manchester United Youngster - News and Rumors
5 Youth Players Who Could Be Future Stars
Despite their recent title acquisition, Sir Alex Ferguson won’t be wallowing in Manchester United’s success, and he will already be planning the club’s squad for years to come. Throughout Ferguson’s 27 years at United, he has made it his mission to incorporate local youngsters into his various squads, with his titular fledglings being the finest example. The likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Danny Welbeck have each helped United to unprecedented levels of success, as they flourished alongside more expensive and illustrious players like Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney. But which current youth players look destined to become the future Manchester United stars of tomorrow? Here are five young Red Devils to keep an eye on. Jesse Lingard Jesse Lingard thoroughly impressed throughout last summer’s preseason friendlies, and some fans believed that he might even play a part in the 2012/13 campaign. Alas, he has yet to make an impact at Old Trafford, but at 20, he is now at the perfect age to finally unleash his potential on United fans. Lingard’s preferred role is just behind the striker, but he can also play on the wings or in central midfield. He was a key figure in United’s 2011 FA Youth Cup win, and a recent spell on loan at Leicester City has certainly whet his appetite, as he recently told ManUtd.com: “I’ve got to keep consistent and working hard in training. You never know, the boss might throw me in at the end of the season.” Mats Daehli Is this the new Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? Positionally, no, but he could ultimately become the new Scandinavian idol at Old Trafford. When Manchester United completed a deal with Stabaek for Mats Daehli in 2010, the side’s reserve team coach told Goal.com, “I think he is going to play for the first team and every coach at Man United thinks he will play for the first team.” He then added, “He is one of the best players in Europe in his age group. He is the best player I have ever seen at his age and I have seen a lot of international players at that age.” Daehli has been compared to the likes of Xavi and Lionel Messi, whilst United had to fight off interest from Bayern Munich and Ajax for the eclectic midfielder’s signature. Since arriving at United he has been awarded the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award, and he has now even established himself in Norway’s under-21 team. Jack Barmby The son of former Everton and Tottenham midfielder Nick Barmby, Jack has shone in a number of positions for United, playing in midfield and attack, even finishing as the youth team’s top scorer in 2011/12. Barmby has produced some magical moments for United, and he has previously been short-listed for the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award. Earlier this year he was called into the England U-19 squad, despite the fact he only turned 18 in December. A real prospect. Adnan Januzaj A Kosovo-born winger with Belgian nationality, it is thought that Adnan Januzaj will feature in some of United’s games before the end of the season now that the Red Devils have wrapped up the Premier League title. Januzaj was even given the squad No. 44 in preparation for his run in the team, and after providing five assists and one goal in just 14 appearances for the U-21 side, Ferguson will be hoping that the winger can prove himself and give him a selection headache for next season. His deadliness from set pieces has already heralded a number of comparisons to David Beckham too. Which is never a bad thing. Tom Thorpe A Manchester native, Tom Thorpe can play in either central defence or midfield, and he has been on Ferguson’s radar ever since captaining the academy side to FA Youth Cup glory in 2011. Tom is a born leader who has is a defensive stalwart but also possesses great technical ability and composure, and has a keen eye for a pass. With several of United’s first-team defenders reaching their nadir, Thorpe might well see the next 12 months as the prime time to prove he can leap into first-team reckoning. Code:

Manchester United prepare £55m part-exchange Gareth Bale bid
Manchester United are reportedly planning to launch a £55m bid for Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale and are willing to include any of three players in a part-exchange deal. It has been suggested that The PFA Player of the Year will leave Spurs at the end of the season if they fail to secure Champions League football, although Bale has played down such rumours. Newly-crowned champions United are apparently leading the Premier League interest in the 23-year-old and are understood to be preparing a big-money offer in the summer. According to CaughtOffside.com, the Red Devils could also include either Ashley Young, Anderson or Nani as a makeweight in what would be a British record transfer. It is thought that Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas could be open to the inclusion of a wide player such as Young or Nani, whose first-team places at Old Trafford will come under further pressure next season following the arrival of Crystal Palace youngster Wilfried Zaha. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also been linked with making a bid for Bale, who has netted 24 times in all competitions for the Lillywhites this campaign. _______________________ sumber: sportsmole.co.uk |

Re: Manchester United Youngster - News and Rumors

30/04/2013 00:45, Report by Adam Marshal Reds learn Milk Cup rivals Manchester United will compete in the Milk Cup for a 24th successive year this summer with the youth tournament in Northern Ireland starting towards the end of July. The likes of Gary Neville, David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Robbie Savage, Keith Gillespie, Kieran Richardson, Darren Fletcher and Danny Welbeck have all represented the Reds in the competition in the past. After reaching the final in 2011, Paul McGuinness' side finished seventh last year but Angelo Henriquez impressed with Chile in the Elite international section of the finals ahead of his move to Old Trafford. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers performed the draw and United are in Group 5 of the Premier section, alongside Germans TUS Altenberge, USA outfit South Coast Strikers and Co. Antrim. Strikers met United in the semi-finals of last year's Globe section and won a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw with Sam Byrne scoring for the Reds. |

Re: Manchester United Youngster - News and Rumors
U-21s: United player by player
Report by Adam Marshall Here's our brief guide to the young Reds who could be involved... Goalkeepers Ben Amos: 23-year-old who has gained plenty of experience out on loan and started the campaign with a Hull City side that eventually gained promotion to the top flight. Solid and rarely makes a mistake. Sam Johnstone: Up-and-coming keeper who has been in England squads at Under-21, Under-20, Under-19, Under-17 and Under-16 level. Finished the season on loan at Walsall, where he enhanced his growing reputation. Jonny Sutherland: One of a number of promising Academy-level keepers at the club, he will move up from the Under-18s next term. Has made four appearances for Joyce’s sides this season and could be on the bench although Pierluigi Gollini is another option. Defenders Tyler Blackett: Powerful defender who has been used in a wide midfield role of late. After going on tour with the first team last summer, he has clocked up 18 appearances for Warren Joyce’s teams this term and has the potential to really kick on next season. Michele Fornasier: Injury ruled him out of the league semi-final but he has been a regular in defence and has become an accomplished centre-back. The Italian scored a last-minute winner away to Liverpool but most of his work comes at the other end of the field. Liam Grimshaw: An ever-present in the Under-18s, he has been promoted to Joyce’s squad recently and is a contender for a substitute’s role on Monday night. Essentially a versatile midfielder but he has excelled at the heart of the defence for Paul McGuinness’ team this season. Reece James: Brother of former United midfielder Matty, he has slotted into the side seamlessly and produced a string of decent performances at left-back. After being released by Preston, his patience and perseverance has been rewarded in style. Michael Keane: Although he was right-back in the successful FA Youth Cup team in 2011, the England Under-21 international has matured into a superb centre-half. Outstanding for Leicester during a successful loan stint, he overcame his play-off heartache with the Foxes by helping the Reds beat Liverpool in the Under-21 semi-final. Luke McCullough: Imposing centre-back who captained last year’s youth team but has had to bide his time for outings at this level. After returning from a loan at Cheltenham, the Northern Ireland Under-21 defender has been in and around the squad. Tom Thorpe: Classy captain who has featured in all 32 games this season. The defender, who has also skippered his country at Under-19 level, added a new dimension to his game by playing in midfield at the start of the season but has returned to the back four to help run an extremely tight ship. Marnick Vermijl: Ultra-consistent right-back who likes to get forward to support the attack but is very diligent in terms of his defending. The Belgian, a signing from Standard Liege, has had two very strong seasons at this level and, like Thorpe, was shortlisted for the Reserve Player of the Year award. Midfielders Larnell Cole: Skilful and intelligent midfielder with an eye for a pass and the ability to keep possession in tight spaces. Hitting peak form at just the right time, his hat-trick in the semi-final, which included two calmly-taken penalties, means he is leading scorer in all competitions in 2012/2013. Mats Daehli: There is no doubting his ability or skill level and he is capable of beating defenders at will with his expert dribbling. Last year’s Young Player of the Year has often been played out wide but can be at his most dangerous when drifting into a central position. Charni Ekangamene: All-action Belgian youngster who has forced his way into the team in a holding midfield role. Clearly gaining in power and influence as the campaign wears on, he has made rapid progress and is one to watch out for next year. Jesse Lingard: Despite his slight build, he has the ability to create chances out of nothing with his direct running and clever footwork. Always a goal threat, he has been deployed in a number of forward positions and shows why he was regarded highly enough to go on last year’s tour. Ben Pearson: The Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year and the stand-out performer in this year’s Academy team. The Oldham-born midfielder combines razor-sharp tackling with a sharp football brain and looks certain to play more of a role at this level in 2013/2014. Andreas Pereira: Has been blooded in the last couple of weeks but is still a first-year scholar following his arrival from PSV Eindhoven. Technically superb, he is something of a set-piece expert. Ryan Tunnicliffe: Driving force in midfield and a tenacious character who often leads the team into battle. A key player at this level, he scored the winner against Tottenham in the fixture at the Salford City Stadium and is renowned for his bursts forward. James Weir: Hard-running midfielder who impresses with his work-rate and discipline. Has an outside chance of making the bench after his consistent campaign for the Under-18s. Forwards John Cofie: Back from a stint with Notts County, where he scored on his debut, he also hit the net in the 2-0 win at West Brom for Joyce’s men. A presence in attack who perhaps offers something different to his fellow forwards. Adnan Januzaj: With the praise of Sir Alex ringing in his ears, the Reserve Player of the Year has emerged as one of the most creative forces in the team. Despite being eligible for the Under-18s, the Belgian has adapted to different attacking roles with aplomb and is a much more rounded player now than the one who signed from Anderlecht. Tom Lawrence: Lively Welsh forward who has had to be extremely patient, making most of his appearances off the bench and often having little time to impress. Capable of the unexpected and the spectacular, he has the tools to make an impact in the final and won both of United's penalties in the semi-final. Gyliano van Velzen: Leggy Dutch import from Ajax who has returned from a loan spell with Royal Antwerp in Belgium. Scored against Oldham in the Lancashire Senior Cup with a tremendously cool finish. James Wilson: Top scorer in the Academy with 14 goals in 13 starts, including five in one memorable game at Newcastle. Extremely quick and an assured finisher, he has had to overcome injury niggles this year. |
