Boss plots FA Cup changes

Sir Alex has promised to make changes for Manchester United’s FA Cup third round tie at West Ham United on Saturday 5 January.

The Reds, who haven’t lifted the trophy since 2004, travel to London following a packed festive fixture list in which United won three games, drew one and stretched the lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League to seven points.

Sir Alex used 19 different players over that period and has promised he’ll continue to utilise his full squad for this weekend’s FA Cup fixture.

“We'll make a few changes for the cup tie,” the manager told MUTV. “Obviously, the likes of Evra and Carrick – who I took off in the second half as soon as we got the third goal – probably deserve a break.

“They've been playing all the games so we'll have a look at the situation.

“We've got fresh players, though. Young Shinji Kagawa came on against Wigan and Tom Cleverley is fresh as he's not had a lot of football – he’s shown a great appetite just now, though.

“We've got plenty of players we can freshen up with.”

berharap Lindegaard main,
takutnya konsistensi De Gea menurun (tapi kayaknya engga deh, udah dewasa )

sama Wellbeck, tapi dia mesti main bagus, biar besok2 dapat kesempatan lagi.
luar biasa divisi penyerang kita kalau Wellbeck juga sudah bangkit.
tengahnya, Ando udah sembuh belum ya? Nani?

Default Re: [FA Cup] West Ham Utd vs Manchester United

03/01/2013 10:17 - ManUtd.com, Ben Hibbs
Preview: West Ham

Form guide: Manchester United have won eight and drawn once in the last nine domestic fixtures and have navigated a tricky festive fixture schedule with aplomb. But that glut of games places demands on fitness and freshness, so personnel changes are expected. West Ham have the security of a mid-table league position mostly due to their fine start to the season, but Sam Allardyce’s side have won only twice in their last nine fixtures – losing five of the last eight. A 2-1 victory on New Year’s Day against Norwich City, however, will have lifted spirits.

Ins and outs: Sir Alex will choose his team carefully on the back of a hectic December. Michael Carrick and Patrice Evra are certain to be rested, while Robin van Persie, who has played in more matches (21 starts, four substitute appearances) than any other Red, may too be given an afternoon off. Shinji Kagawa is in line to start, as is Tom Cleverley, and changes are expected elsewhere. West Ham are likely to be without defender George McCartney, midfielder Mohamed Diame and on-loan striker Andy Carroll through injury.

Last meeting: The teams last went head-to-head at OT in November as Robin van Persie scored after just 31 seconds to clinch a narrow 1-0 victory. The game also marked the Reds’ first clean sheet in ten games.

Did you know?*Manchester United’s very first meeting with West Ham was in the FA Cup third round, on 25 February 1911. Prolific Scottish striker Sandy Turnbull scored for the Reds, but the Hammers ran out 2-1 winners at Upton Park.

Opposition boss: Sam Allardyce is held in high regard by Sir Alex. Before the two managers went head-to-head late in 2012, Sir Alex said: “Big Sam went to Upton Park a year ago and the cynics said he’s not a West Ham manager as he doesn’t play football. What was his mandate? To get them up into the Premier League as quickly as possible and he got them up within a year. Tell me someone else who could’ve done that?”

Star man: Kevin Nolan is West Ham’s top scorer this season with five goals and his deep midfield runs were a key feature of the Hammers’ strong start in the Barclays Premier League this term. He hasn’t scored since 11 November in a 1-0 win over Newcastle, and results have subsequently suffered.

Sub-plots: The last time the two sides met in a knock-out competition at Upton Park was in the Carling Cup in 2010/11 – West Ham won 4-0 with two goals each from Jonathan Spector and Carlton Cole. Often referenced is West Ham’s 1-0 FA Cup fourth round win at OT in 2001 – Paolo Di Canio scored, as Fabien Barthez stood arm raised in offside appeal – but that score was more than settled two years later when the Reds hit the Hammers for six, again in the competition’s fourth round. Ryan Giggs (2), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2), Phil Neville and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored without reply.

Whistle-blower: Martin Atkinson takes charge of his second Reds game this season – the other was the 3-2 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in December. Atkinson has officiated at two West Ham games in 2012/13: a 3-0 defeat to Swansea in August and – a week before United met City – their 3-1 win over Chelsea. He has dished out 89 yellow cards and one red this season.

Rivals watch: Manchester City entertain Watford at home, while Chelsea face a trip to Southampton (both games kick off at 15:00 GMT on Saturday 5 January).

Big Sam on: Manchester United
whufc.com - 04-01-2013

The West Ham United manager on Saturday's FA Cup tie and the signing of Joe Cole

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has spoken to the media ahead of Saturday's FA Cup with Budweiser third round tie with Manchester United.

The Hammers welcome the Barclays Premier League leaders to the Boleyn Ground for a sell-out match that will also be screened live on ITV1.

Big Sam also spoke enthusiastically about the signing of England international Joe Cole, who has completed his move back to east London in time to feature in Saturday's tie.

Sam, can you start by talking about the deal to sign Joe Cole from Liverpool?

BS - "It's a good deal for us. I think that somebody as talented as Joe and as enthusiastic about playing football and not all about money, as most transfers seem to be about today, is a pleasure to bring back to the club and give the opportunity he is looking for.

"I think we will give him that and hopefully he will grasp it with both hands and produce some of the outstanding ability and quality that we know he has. If we can extract the best out of him again, then it will be a fantastic signing for us at West Ham United.

"It is somebody who is coming back home to where he started. He realised his dreams here of becoming a footballer and all he talks about is football, so it's great to have secured the deal and really great that he chose us."

What does it say about West Ham United's ambitions to have signed a player like Joe Cole?

BS - "It's nice to have a player who has played 56 times for England. He is just into his thirties so iI hink there is still an awful lot of football left in him. The Barclays Premier League is where it's all at but he hasn't been playing regularly enough since his move to Liverpool.

"It has frustrated him and he feels he needs a break somewhere else to recreate himself and I think we have the back-up services and staff behind the scenes here to help him to do that. I think, for us, it's a great move and hopefully it is for him.

"As long as it all gets done today, he'll be in the starting line-up on Saturday."

What sort of impact can he make and how quickly?

BS - "I hope he does for us tomorrow what he did for Liverpool when he played against us in Devember and that is score a goal. It'll be a tough game for us [against Manchester United] but extra quality in a team when it had possession is important and we know that Joe's main strengths lie in possession and his ability to open teams up and beat individuals.

"Those are key elements and that's what we'll be looking for - give him the ball as much as we can in the opposition half and say 'Go and create for us and go and score some goals'."

How much of a morale boost is it for the club and its fans to have Joe Cole back?

BS - "I would have thought they will be pleased to see one of their own come back. He is from the West Ham Academy and developed under Tony Carr. He spent a bit of time in the first team here before he moved on and it's great to have him back.

"I hope the West Ham fans are applauding him because of the performances he can give for us."

Do you feel he can add to his tally of 56 England caps?

BS - "I don't see why not. If he can recapture his old form and play on a regular basis for us, he is bound to get a bit of interest from Roy Hodgson. I think his main focus first is making sure he plays for West Ham on a regular basis and reproducing the form that we know he can produce."

Is Saturday's FA Cup with Budweiser third-round tie a bit of a bonus because it is a break from the pressure of trying to consolidate in the Barclays Premier League?

BS - "We're not under the same pressure we are under day-in, day-out in the Barclays Premier League, that's for sure. We have a responsibility with a full house and being live on TV that we put the best team out that we can at the moment, which we will do.

"There are a number of problems that we're still suffering from injury-wise. We're grateful that two of our suspended players are back in James Collins and Kevin Nolan, which will help us.

"I'm sure Sir Alex Ferguson will make some changes but it won't really matter in terms of weakening or strengthening their squad because at the moment, whatever changes he makes, they keep winning. Whatever changes he makes, there will be eleven internationals out against us tomorrow.

"it will be a hugely difficult game but one we are pleased to be involved in, even though it is in the third round when we'd perhaps have liked a lesser draw than Manchester United at home. We're excited about it, we can go out and do our very, very best and if we can create an upset that would be a fantastic bonus for us to move on into the next round."

Opa bilang mo serius nih di FA cup kali ini ( emang tahun2 sebelumnya gk serius ya ), krn udah lama United tidak memenangkan piala ini ..., para pemain juga antusias nih, as Smalling said
______________

04/01/2013 15:00 - ManUtd.com, Gemma Thompson
Reds aim to make cup impact

Chris Smalling admits the FA Cup third round draw could have been kinder to United after the Reds were handed an away trip to West Ham on Saturday, but the defender insists confidence is high in the squad with everyone determined to make their mark in the cup this season.

Sir Alex’s men have been left frustrated in the competition since 2004, the year of United’s last FA Cup triumph. Two defeats in finals (2005 and 2007) have since followed, while the Reds have tasted defeat in the last four of the competition in two of the last four seasons.

With the Reds faring well in the league and the Champions League put to bed until next month, Smalling says a successful FA Cup run is uppermost on the players’ priority list.

“We’ve haven’t done too well in the cup in the last few years and the manager has made that point to us,” he told ManUtd.com and PA Sport. “We need to make sure we get back on track in the competition, especially as the league is going well and we’re into the Champions League knock-out stages. We want to do well in the cup as well.

“The FA Cup has always been a massive competition. You’ve got the situation where lower league teams have the chance to play some of the top sides and it can be a real adventure for a lot of sides. We’ve not got an easy game, but I’m sure it’ll be a good, competitive one.”

The Reds will be up against a West Ham side, promoted back to the top flight this term, who have lost two of their last three home games. But Smalling still fully expects the Hammers to make*the Saturday tea-time clash a testing encounter.

“We expect a tough game. When I saw the draw I thought it wasn’t the easiest one we could have had, but it’ll be a good atmosphere and Upton Park is always somewhere I’ve enjoyed playing," he added.

“Sam Allardyce has done very well and got a good team together. The fans really get behind them, especially at Upton Park, and that will make it more difficult for us compared to if we were playing them at home.

“It’s a tough draw for us, but you can end up playing anyone in the cup and you’ve got to beat everybody put in front of you. Hopefully we can put on a good show at Upton Park.”
