Winger Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo sudah mulai berlatih bersama tim sejak 26 Juli 2014. Namun, CR7 dipastikan absen pada pertandingan terakhir fase grup International Champions Cup 2014 melawan mantan timnya, Manchester United.

Los Blancos akan berhadapan dengan Manchester United, yang kini memimpin klasemen sementara Grup A, di Michigan Stadium, Minggu 3 Agustus 2014 pukul 03.00 WIB. Dan, atas alasan kebugaran, pelatih Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti akan menyimpan CR7.*

"Sejauh ini, dia berlatih sendiri, terpisah dari tim. Tapi, dia tak akan bermain besok dan akan berlatih lagi di Madrid, karena kami akan memainkannya pada pertandingan Super Cup," kata Ancelotti, sebagaimana dilansir Dailymail, Sabtu 2 Agustus 2014.

"Apa yang kami lakukan terhadap Cristiano sudah tepat. Kami memberinya libur satu bulan dan kembali lagi pada 26 Juli. Tapi, dia memerlukan pemulihan sepenuhnya, dan karena alasan inilah kami tak akan memainkannya besok," sambungnya.

Madrid sudah dipastikan tersingkir dari International Champions Cup, usai menelan dua kekalahan (dari Inter Milan dan AS Roma). Namun, Don Carletto menekankan bahwa pasukannya bakal tampil total di laga pamungkas kontra Setan Merah.*

"Lawan Manchester United tak pernah jadi laga persahabatan. Kami akan menghadapi tim fantastis di stadion yang juga fantastis, tapi kami akan menampilkan permainan terbaik, karena ingin mengakhiri (turnamen) dengan hasil bagus," tutur pelatih 55 tahun itu.

Van Gaal: Only victory will do


Louis van Gaal says only victory will do in Saturday's final International Champions Cup group game against Real Madrid.

The Reds take on the European Champions at Michigan Stadium and is expected to be watched by the biggest crowd ever for a football game in the United States with over 100,000 tickets sold.

Anything but defeat will secure United's place in the ICC final in Miami on Monday night and van Gaal says he and his players have only one things in mind.

"I'm anxious to win," the manager told reporters at a pre-match press conference. "I'm a coach who wants to win and United are used to that too, so I think my players will show that attitude also."

When questioned about the progress of the squad during the tour from a fitness perspective, he added: "I cannot say more than I said after the game against Inter Milan because this is the only training session we have had since, more or less. We have also played on the pitches of the American University, eleven against eleven, but we are always doing that.

"We have to see that also the players have an accumulation of tiredness of travelling and training and matches and so on, so I have to think about the line-up and how many players I shall change."

Van Gaal confirmed the Reds will be without defender Chris Smalling, who trained away from the group during Friday's session - "he has minor problem so he cannot play" - and the boss reiterated his desire to stick to playing three centre-backs and two wing-backs in defence.

"From the first time I arrived in Manchester, I have tried to perform my system with five defenders," he added. "Maybe there will come a time when I play with four but, for now, all sessions are made for five defenders in the system."

Asked whether the squad would increase in numbers at all, van Gaal said: "I have said that I want to see the players I have and give them an honest chance. We have still a month to go and maybe we don't need other players."
