Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs Arsenal
Tottenham 1 United 3: Ratings
MEN - September 12, 2009 Foster: Handled comfortably and made one particular great save from Jenas 7 O'Shea: No signs of his international injury as he made a solid contribution 6 Ferdinand: No rustiness in an impeccable dominant comeback in his first league match of campaign 8 Vidic: An early struggle coping with Crouch but he finally got his teeth into the battle 7 Evra: Another powerful display kept the lid on England hero Lennon 8 Fletcher: Naught Darren you were tackling a lot again even in a wider role! 7 Scholes: Typcially wild first yellow put him on dangerous ground but his second was harsh 5 Giggs: Back on his old stomping ground wide left and rolled back the years at times 7 Anderson: Particularly in the first half this was the Brazilian from his debut season - and a goal at last! 8 Rooney: By his standard it was quiet but still a danger and brilliantly kept his scoring run going 7 Berbatov: In the opening 45 minutes this was the Berbatov the fans have wanted to see 7 Substitutes Carrick (sub Berbatov 61) Solid cameo 6 Nani (sub Anderson 80) Did okay 5 Not used: Owen, Nani, Fabio, Evans, Valencia Kuszczak Tottenham: Cudicini, Corluka (Hutton 68), Bassong, King, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Huddlestone, Palacios (Jenas (45), Keane (Kranjcar 71), Crouch, Defoe Goals: Tottenham: Defoe (1); United: Giggs (24) Anderson (40) Rooney (77) Bookings: Tottenham: Palacios (23) King (51) Jenas (72); United: Vidic (45) Scholes (50, 58 sent off) Battle of the bosses: Fergie's midfield raised eyebrows but wily Redknapp still had no answer to it Referee: Andre Marriner - Got most things right but harsh on Scholes 6 |

Re: [UCL] Besiktas vs Man Utd
Besiktas 0 United 1: Player ratings
MEN, Stuart Mathieson - September 15, 2009 Foster: Didn’t have an awful lot to do but what he did was very assured 7 Neville: The veteran held his ground and was on top of his immediate opponent throughout 7 Evans: Drafted in for injured Ferdinand and he looked as composed as the England defender 8 Vidic: Had a couple of moments when he put United in trouble 6 Evra: Defensively sound and was a threat overlapping Nani 7 Valencia: Started with some nervous touches but got into it and put in some decent tantalising crosses 7 Anderson: Not quite up to his Tottenham standard but he was still dominant in midfield 7 Scholes: Quietly imposing in the engine room to keep Reds ticking and popped up for a now rare goal 7 Carrick: Never really got a hold of the game and wasn’t really needed to guard defence 6 Nani: Tendency to overdo it spoilt some decent possession 6 Rooney: Ploughed a lone frustrating furrow and didn’t look a happy chappy 6 Subs: Owen (sub Rooney 63) Busy effort 6 Berbatov (sub Carrick 63) Didn’t really show 5 Park (sub Valencia 84) Kept it tight 5 Brown, Park, Fabio, Gibson, Kuszczak not used Besiktas: Arikan, Kas, Sivok, Nobre, Tabata (Tello 69), Dag, Uzulmez, Ozkan (Simsek 59), Holosko, Ferrari, Ernst Goals: Besiktas: United: Scholes (77) Bookings: Besiktas: Sivok (6) Nobre (53) United: Vidic (89) Battle of the Bosses Fergie’s cautious plan kept Besiktas quiet and then he went for the attacking option. His Turkish counterpart didn’t seem to have any plan B Referee: Nicola Rizzoli (Italy) - No problems to worry him. 7 Attendance: 35,000 |

Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs Arsenal
United 4 City 3: Player ratings
MEN - September 20, 2009 Foster: Should have smashed clearance into back row for City's first goal and beaten on near post for last 5 O'Shea: Was shocked by Bellamy's goal and had a mixed battle with the Welshman 5 Ferdinand: Didn't react to Tevez's ability to chase down balls for City's first and awful slack lob set up final equaliser 5 Vidic: With only one striker to handle between two he wasn't able to stamp himself on game 6 Evra: The sideshow tangle between him and Wright-Phillips was an enthralling match up 7 Park: Didn't hurt City's arguable Achilles heel Bridge enough and shooting didn't damage Blues either 6 Fletcher: Patches when he was dominant in midfield and times when out of tune but his two-goal effort won the day 8 Anderson: When De Jong was on top in first half he hardly showed but he got his foot in the door in second 7 Giggs: A key man in for the Reds - especially the goals - and energised the side in second half 9 Rooney: Started off like a train with opener but then was absent from action too often 7 Berbatov: Had chances to be derby hero but gave Given every chance to be a hero 6 Subs: Valencia: (sub Park 62) Put in some inviting crosses 6 Owen: (sub Berbatov 77) Cool winner 6 Carrick: (sub Anderson 90) Too late to make impression Not used: Nani, Evans, Kuszczak Battle of the bosses: Masterstroke by Fergie bringing on Owen as sub and to playing Giggs on left Referee: Martin Atkinson - Handled it very well 8 Attendance: 75,066 |

United 1 Wolves 0: Player ratings
MEN, Stuart Mathieson - September 23, 2009 Kuszczak: Not a great deal to do. Excellent save from Jones free kick was his one highlight 6 Neville: The captain defended solidly and provided a supply line for Nani 7 Brown: His usual robust tackling was welcome but unable to clear situation that led to Fabio red 6 Evans: Up against the ‘Crouch-like’ Maierhofer and was never seriously in trouble 6 Fabio: Had made a promising start until desperate measures were called for 5 Nani: Clearly had the beating of his marker Elokobi but final ball constantly let him down 6 Gibson: Busy in the midfield and got in a few of his dangerous long range efforts 7 Carrick: Didn’t impose himself on the midfield but did have hand in the winner 5 Welbeck: Heavy touches at times but took his goal superbly 6 Macheda: Hadn’t got into it at all before he was taken off for tactical reasons after red card 5 Owen: Lone striker for much of the evening and it was a thankless task 6 Subs: De Laet (sub Macheda 31) Decent effort 6 Valencia (sub Owen 69) Quiet cameo 5 King (sub Welbeck 81) Impressive brief outing 6 Ferdinand, Tosic, Valencia, Eikrem, Amos Wolves: Hahnemann, Elokobi, Craddock, Kightly (Keogh 77), Henry, Ebanks-Blake (Doyle 66), Jones, Berra, Foley, Maierhofer, Castillio (Milijas (45) Goals: United: Welbeck (66) Wolves: Bookings: United: None Wolves: None Sent off: Fabio for United (29) Battle of the Bosses: Fergie was never seriously in trouble from McCarthy Referee: Peter Walton - No trouble 7 Attendance: 51,116 |
