Re: [FAC] Manchester United vs Cambridge United, 4th round replay

Re: [FAC] Manchester United vs Cambridge United, 4th round replay
Preview: Manchester United vs Cambridge United
Scene-setter: Having responded to the disappointment of the fourth-round stalemate against Cambridge United by cruising to a comfortable victory over Premier League strugglers Leicester City at the weekend, the Reds are afforded the opportunity to swiftly build on that with the FA Cup replay against the League Two outfit just three days later. Form guide: United have dealt with the setback of losing to Southampton in early January well in terms of league results, ensuring QPR and Leicester caused no shock by inflicting 2-0 and 3-1 defeats respectively on the table’s bottom two sides. The latter victory helped Louis van Gaal’s men*leapfrog the Saints – who suffered a home loss to Swansea – into*third place behind Chelsea and Manchester City. Cambridge, meanwhile, have gone winless since the goalless draw with the Reds at the Abbey Stadium. A draw with Dagenham & Redbridge, followed by a 3-2 defeat at the hands of promotion-chasing Luton Town, has not provided Richard Money’s side with the ideal momentum heading to the Theatre of Dreams. Team news: After being rested for the first meeting between United and Cambridge, Wayne Rooney returned to the side that beat Leicester and could feature on Tuesday. Ashley Young and Michael Carrick are certain absentees. Chris Smalling made the bench against the Foxes at the weekend and could be involved, but doubts remain over Jonny Evans. In contrast, Cambridge arrive this week boasting a clean bill of health. We meet again: Cambridge's most recent visit*to Old Trafford*was the first-ever meeting between the teams. The Reds ensured the away side left empty-handed*with a 3-0 League Cup success in 1991, before a 1-1 draw in the return leg secured United progression on the way to lifting the trophy. Opposition boss: After managerial stints in Sweden and Australia, Richard Money returned to England to work in the lower leagues before arriving at Cambridge in 2012. Last season proved to be the 59-year-old’s best in charge at the Abbey Stadium, as he led the club to the FA Trophy and promotion – ending a nine-year absence from the Football League – via the play-offs. Cambridge currently occupy 14th place in League Two. Rivals watch: Liverpool face a trip to the Macron Stadium on Wednesday for their fourth-round replay against Bolton Wanderers, while Arsenal await a clash with Middlesbrough, who eliminated Manchester City, in the next stage. Chelsea, Tottenham and Southampton all exited the competition in the fourth round. Match officials: Jonathan Moss will be taking charge on the evening, with Gary Beswick and Lee Betts his assistants. Robert Madley will be the game’s fourth official. |

Mata: We won't underestimate Cambridge Each week, Juan Mata pens his blog*and, today, he's looking forward to a busy week of action against Cambridge United and West Ham... Hi everyone! A very cold Sunday has been the end to a week that leaves a good win at home, but there is no time for celebrations as this very Tuesday we have the FA Cup replay against Cambridge.* We want to make it to the next round and we are absolutely focused on that because, as I said before, the team is very excited about this competition. Against Leicester, we were able to take our good chances in the first half and that allowed us to have a quiet game and to enjoy it more than other weeks. We don’t want to relax though. Every game is complicated: see what happened to Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga break [they lost 4-1 at Wolfsburg on Friday]. In sports, having respect for your opponent is a must. Even more so in football, where distances have shortened. That is something we are aware of ahead of our game against Cambridge. Not long ago, they proved to be a tough rival. A few days later, on Sunday, we will play at West Ham. There is no time for a break. At this stage of the season, we need to be more consistent than ever in order to retain the third spot and to approach the teams in the top two. Have a nice week! Hugs! ~ Juan |

Re: [FAC] Manchester United vs Cambridge United, 4th round replay
Luke Shaw targets FA Cup success with United theFA.com, Nicholas Veevers - 03 Feb 2015 Luke Shaw is targeting his first piece of silverware with Manchester United in The FA Cup this season. The England defender is preparing for Tuesday’s Fourth Round replay with Cambridge United, with United still smarting from their 0-0 draw at the Abbey Stadium in the first tie. But Shaw is well aware of what a victory over the League Two side could mean for Louis Van Gaal’s side. "The whole team look at it as a trophy we all want to win," revealed Shaw ahead of the Old Trafford game. "And especially now, it's what you could say is the main priority because the league, I wouldn't say it's gone, but we're quite far away, so we're definitely looking to win The FA Cup." The winners of this replay will go on to face either Preston North End or Sheffield United, who also replay on Tuesday, in the next round. And after seeing the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur knocked out of The Cup in the Fourth Round, the former Southampton left-back is already plotting a potential pathway to Wembley. "We've been quite lucky with the draw so far," he admitted.* “We've picked up teams in the lower leagues so maybe it could be our year, especially now when you look at the teams that have been knocked out. "There are not so many of the so-called big teams left, so I think we have to take that as a positive. "Hopefully we'll get past this one but you've seen from the past years that the big teams can get knocked out so we know it's not going to be easy and we need to be 100 per cent focused." |
