Manchester United star Marcos Rojo seen smoking and biting blonde woman's dress outside nightclub in Argentina

* Marcos Rojo has been on international duty with Argentina in the last week
* Video has emerged of Manchester United defender smoking on a night out
* The 26-year-old is also seen biting the dress of a woman outside the club

Marcos Rojo has risked the wrath of Louis van Gaal after the Manchester United defender was seen smoking outside a nightclub.

The 26-year-old full back has been on international duty with Argentina and video footage has emerged of him taking a drag on what appears to be a cigarette during a night out.

The clip, which captures the Argentine from across the other side of the road, is sure to rankle with Old Trafford manager Van Gaal ahead of the return of the Premier League.

During the clip, uploaded to the Farandula Show YouTube channel, Rojo, who missed a large chunk of this season with a shoulder injury, can be seen laughing and joking with a group of club-goers, including a number of women.

At one point the former Sporting Lisbon star is even seen biting the dress of a blonde woman standing beside him in a seemingly playful, flirtatious manner.

Rojo can be identified by the distinctive tattoo he has just below his left ear

Van Gaal might not be the only person irked by Rojo's behaviour. He is married to lingerie model Eugenia Lusardo and the couple have a young daughter together.

In December 2014, Rojo had an affair with a woman he met at the Manchester United players' Christmas party, an encounter that led to a court battle.

The woman in question Sarah Watson received the threat of jail, a draconian gagging order and, she says, the outrageous and disturbing claim she was no more than a greedy blackmailer.

Speaking to the Mail On Sunday last April – after the injunction had been lifted – Watson said: 'People who look after Marcos claimed I had demanded £100,000 to keep quiet about our encounter. But it was a lie and they knew it. They tried to trap me.’

Rojo has now risked being thrust into the spotlight again following this week's smoking controversy and his United manager Van Gaal is certain to be unhappy with the unwanted attention.

United are facing a battle to secure a spot in next season's Champions League with the club currently sixth in the top flight.

United return to Premier League action against Everton at Old Trafford this Sunday as they look to build on the 1-0 victory in the Manchester derby before the international break.

Rojo started both games at left back as Argentina beat Chile and Bolivia to boost their chances of of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Manchester United have been approached for comment.

Default Re: Faustino Marcos Alberto Rojo

Marcos Rojo is Manchester United’s true worst signing under Louis van Gaal

Back in the summer of 2014, Manchester United‘s needs seemed clear at the back following the departures of Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand: sign a new left-back, bring the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones on to become dependable stoppers and find a ball-playing replacement to control the game from the back. Preferably one with a left foot to sate the left-right symmetry Louis van Gaal ultimately desires across the various departments of his team.

By the start of the season, Luke Shaw had been procured at great expense to take on Evra’s mantle as a full-back capable of covering an entire flank all by himself. Eventually, Smalling answered the call to step up and become the leader, organiser and enforcer at the back. Then Marcos Rojo rocked up.

After helping to take Argentina to a World Cup final in 2014 as a marauding left-back, alongside his compatriot and fellow new arrival at Old Trafford Angel Di Maria, hopes were high that the defender could become the new Gabriel Heinze at United — a versatile and aggressive yet astute player capable of protecting his team in central and wide areas.

However, Rojo could be on his way this summer according to the Mirror after two disappointing years that have divided supporters between those taken in by his on-field angst, antagonistic style of play and loudness — generally looking the part — and those still waiting for him to show that he is anything more than a well-presented belligerent.

Despite his smaller transfer fee and the reduced degree of hype that surrounded his move to United, the Argentinian should be seen as the worst signing of Van Gaal’s reign; a more costly capture than Di Maria in terms of the importance of his position to the team if not the actual sums involved in the deals to bring them both to England.

It’s hard to understate just how poorly the brief was followed by those tasked to find the Dutchman a left-sided centre-back in 2014 capable of bringing the ball out, setting the tempo and building attacking moves from the back of his side. A defender with the profile of a player such as Mats Hummels should have been the goal. Instead, they found a lesser version of the most combative defenders that were already at the club, who have since overshadowed Rojo’s contributions and overtaken him as a player under Van Gaal whenever he has been fit.

Meanwhile, Daley Blind — signed as a utility man for the squad’s midfield and as a left-sided wing-back for when a back three was required — has become a mainstay alongside Smalling; not quite good or strong enough to be the player his manager needs him to be but the best stop-gap option available for now. While the Dutchman may lack pace and energy he has shown a steadiness and degree of composure seemingly beyond the more rash and unreliable Rojo, who has so often shown a lack of positional sense, timing and proportionality at the back for United.

He overcooks his challenges, charges out of line to leave his team’s defence out of shape and generally plays like another individual that must be accommodated for rather than a footballer who can provide that service to others, like Blind and Smalling, as part of a unit. When he is charged to guard the penalty area, the team’s foundations suddenly begin to look as if they were part built upon sand.

Rojo, Smalling and Jones compared last season

For fans fed up of seeing what they perceive to be a lack of fight in their side, Rojo’s brand of aggressive machismo has at times been a welcome sight, but it’s all for show. Rather than hardening up his team’s defensive lines he has been something of a loose cannon, playing to the gallery rather than to the game plan, and that has left his side short. He’s lucky his impetuousness hasn’t cost United more than it already has.

Still, there have been highlights, at least in games where the rest of the defence has been set up to cope with or without his excesses. He did well against Manchester City back in October 2015 as United contained their rivals to record a 0-0 draw at home. Freed from the need to hold the line in what appeared to be a free-wheeling left-back role, the Argentinian raced about the field, man-marking Yaya Toure and keeping tabs on Sergio Aguero. It was the kind of chaotic performance only feasible when the rest of the team are ready and prepared to defend while one rogue element chases the ball and the man, and perhaps only viable in the unique, emotional setting of a derby match.

Rojo’s tackles versus Manchester City. He was subbed off after 63 minutes

In the reverse fixture, as United beat City 1-0 at the Etihad in March, only Jesus Navas’ lack of end product prevented Rojo from gifting the visitors goals. He was constantly caught out of position, completed just 57% of his passes and only 17% of his tackles. Earlier in the season, in the 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion, the laboured 2-1 win away against Watford and even the 2-0 victory over the Baggies, he was similarly poor, even if United showed just enough about themselves to take six points from a possible nine as the Argentinian toiled at left-back.

His supporters may argue he is being played out of position when put out wide as a full-back, that he should play as a centre-back, but it’s the role which put him on the club’s radar at the World Cup, and the position from which he can do the least harm compared to his outings in the middle of defence.

Rojo is as much a victim of his club’s transfer strategy as any other ill-fitting signing brought to Old Trafford over the past three years. He is the defensive equivalent to Marouane Fellaini, another player brought in to solve a problem in the starting line-up, namely the lack of a player to hold and control midfield in the absence of Carrick, following the retirement of Paul Scholes and after years of under-investment in that area of the squad.

The Belgian only succeeded in making the team’s issues even more apparent. Rojo has suffered a similar fate. That both were signings made in the closing days of transfer windows by Ed Woodward helps to explain the failure of the recruitment procedures that saw these square pegs forced into round holes.

In a team that needs its defenders to be busy at all times, the Argentinian could thrive, but whether its due to Van Gaal’s philosophy or a desire to dictate games and take the initiative, United need more from their centre-backs and full-backs than a high workload. Rojo hasn’t shown that he has the attention span or the quality to be the kind of player required to fill the positions he was signed to play in a convincing manner.

He is too rash, too blunt, too easily distracted and too clumsy. In the context of the squad at present, all he has going for him is his left-footedness and Luke Shaw’s injury, and when he has come up against attackers determined to test his patience, he has looked like a player with two left feet and no sense of timing. Take away the transfer fees and it’s hard to think of a less successful first-team signing under Van Gaal than Marcos Rojo.

ROJO: REDS YOUNGSTER'S RISE IS NO SURPRISE

Marcos Rojo insists that while the emergence of Manchester United's exciting young stars this season may have come as a shock to many people, it has not been a surprise within the club.

Prolific striker Marcus Rashford has, of course, grabbed most of the headlines with his brilliant return of seven goals in 12 games at the tender of 18, but others including Tim Fosu-Mensah, Jesse Lingard, Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have also excelled when given their opportunity.

Their contributions have been vital in helping the Reds to reach this weekend's Emirates FA Cup semi-final at Wembley and to stay in the fight for a top-four finish, and Rojo has been impressed by what he's seen, particularly from Rashford and Fosu-Mensah.

The Argentina defender told MUTV: "It might have come as a surprise to everyone else, but certainly not us. It is not a surprise for us because they have been training with us for a while so we had seen what they could do.

"Tim has great maturity and copes really under pressure, while Marcus has been vital for us and has brought us some important goals that came in fantastic wins for us.

"They’ve been showing their qualities out there for the first team and in important matches."

Since returning from an injury lay-off in February, versatile Rojo has been a regular at left-back for United. He has helped the Reds earn the best clean sheets record in the league and has high praise for the solid central-defence partnership Chris Smalling and Daley Blind have formed this term.

"What’s really worked is that their respective styles have complemented one another," he explained. "You might say that Daley is not the most physical of central defenders, but he makes up for that with his ability to play the ball out of defence. Chris is a skilful player too, but he’s known for his strength and power. Those two things really strike a great balance.

"It is a good feeling [to have the clean sheets record] because we know that we are doing our main job well. Yes, in some cases we need to get forward and make chances, but we need to ensure that the opposition don’t score against us. So we’re happy that aspect is going well."

Marcos Rojo not surprised by emergence of young players at Manchester United

Marcos Rojo has insisted that he and his Manchester United teammates have not been surprised by the emergence of the club’s young players this season.

Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have put in some scintillating performances for the first team recently while the likes of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Joe Riley and Guillermo Varela have also made the step up this term.

Rojo claimed that their qualities came as no surprise after he saw them up close in training.

“It might have come as a surprise to everyone else, but certainly not us. It is not a surprise for us because they have been training with us for a while so we had seen what they could do,” the Argentine said.

“Tim has great maturity and copes really under pressure, while Marcus has been vital for us and has brought us some important goals that came in fantastic wins for us. They’ve been showing their qualities out there for the first team and in important matches.”

United have a long history of promoting young players to the first team and it has been fantastic to see them carry on that tradition this season.

In what has been a season to forget for supporters, the performances of players such as Rashford and Fosu-Mensah have provided cause for optimism. Along with the likes of Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw, United have an exciting crop of young players coming through.

Manchester United defender Marcus Rojo being lined up for loan switch to Villarreal

* Villarreal want to bring in Marcos Rojo on loan to shore up their defence
* After losing Eric Bailly to the Reds, AC Milan are in for Mateo Musacchio
* The Yellow Submarines assessing whether they can afford Rojo's wages

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is wanted on loan by Spanish side Villarreal.

The Argentina international is one of the players Jose Mourinho may consider offers for following the arrival of Eric Bailly from Villarreal plus return to fitness of Luke Shaw.

Villarreal also face bids from AC Milan for defender Mateo Musacchio and have earmarked Rojo as an option if he can fit into their wage structure.

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is wanted on loan by Spanish side Villarreal

Rojo was signed by Mourinho's predecessor Louis van Gaal in August 2014 for £16million from Sporting Lisbon on a five-year deal but has struggled to tie down a place in the first team.

The Argentina international started just 15 Premier League games last term as United missed out on the Champions League.

It was a season disrupted by a shoulder injury picked up against Watford in December which saw Rojo miss almost three months, but did return to play in the season's closing months and started the FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace.

The 26-year-old moved to Europe with Spartak Moscow from Argentine club Estudiantes in 2011 before a £3.5m switch Sporting a year later.

Bailly Cedera, Saatnya Rojo Unjuk Gigi
Mohammad Resha Pratama - detikSport

Manchester - Cedera Eric Bailly memang merugikan untuk Manchester United. Tapi absennya Bailly seperti jadi berkah untuk Marcos Rojo.

MU harus kehilangan Bailly selama dua bulan lamanya usai si pemain mendapat cedera lutut saat kalah 0-4 dari Chelsea akhir pekan lalu. Padahal Bailly awalnya dikabarkan hanya menepi selama beberapa pekan.

Meylan Fredy Ismawan - detikSport

ROJO: UNITED MUST STAY CALM AT FENERBAHCE

Manchester United’s Europa League campaign continues on Thursday in Istanbul, where Fenerbahce await at Sukru Saracoglu, with Marcos Rojo confident the Reds can overcome a hostile atmosphere.

Rojo feels the Istanbul outfit will be a different proposition on their home turf after losing 4-1 at Old Trafford last month, when he joked he felt like the only man not enjoying Robin van Persie's goal on his return to his former club.

Turkey has proved to be a difficult country for United to visit in European competition, with the Reds winning only three of seven games played there. One of those was a 2-0 victory over Thursday’s opponents in 1996, though Fener avenged that result eight years later by defeating an under-strength United side 3-0, with Tuncay netting a hat-trick.

Jose Mourinho’s men can open up a five-point gap to third-placed Fenerbahce with victory in Thursday’s Group A encounter, but defender Rojo is not underestimating the Turkish outfit, despite the convincing victory in the last meeting.

"It’s definitely an important match," Rojo told MUTV. "It’s very important for us to go to Turkey and get the three points to help secure our passage to the knockout rounds of the competition.

"We can’t forget that they have the home fans, who bring a lot of support to their team. It’s important that we prepare right, stay calm and hopefully come home with the victory."

Marcus Rashford has spoken of the intimidating atmosphere that United can expect in Istanbul and Rojo is also ready for it, having faced similar experiences while playing for Estudiantes in his native Argentina at the start of his career.

"All matches at this level attract a very vociferous support and the fans are always right behind their team," the 26-year-old continued.

"We know this about Fenerbahce too, but it is very much the same case in South America. We just have to ensure we stay focused on the job in hand."

Van Persie is expected to again lead the line for the hosts, having scored that consolation goal at Old Trafford last month that was applauded by almost everyone – except Rojo.

"It will be great to go against Robin again," the defender said. "That goal he scored at Old Trafford went down well with pretty much everybody – the United support were cheering him too. I think I was the only person who wasn’t celebrating!

"But Robin is a great player and, knowing him as we do, we know what his strengths are. We’ll go out there and try to keep a lid on him."

ROJO SET FOR REUNION WITH OLD PAL FERNANDEZ

Marcos Rojo is looking forward to meeting up with his friend Federico Fernandez on Sunday but is determined to come out on top when Manchester United meet Swansea City.

The match at the Liberty Stadium is a crucial one for the Reds and Rojo, who played alongside Fernandez in defence at youth and senior level for Estudiantes, is hoping he will be the one smiling after 90 minutes.

"He’s someone that I have known a long time," Rojo told MUTV. "For 12 or 13 years we have been friends, we were champions together in Argentina. We’ve got quite a history together. It’s going to be a big match, but, once we get on the pitch, he’s the opposition. Outside of football though, we do have a good and lasting friendship."

Rojo is aware United have lost 2-1 on the last two visits to the Welsh club and appreciates there is nothing worse than heading into an international break on the back of a disappointing result.

"Going to the Liberty Stadium hasn’t gone too well for us in the last few seasons," the Argentinian added. "It’s a difficult place to go to. They are a strong team, but we need to go there with the intention of getting the three points. We need to keep getting the three points and victories to maintain our challenge to finish at the top of the league.

"Obviously, with the international break, you’re looking at quite a long period of time before you get to the next league match. It can happen where you lose tempo, or perhaps the rhythm isn’t quite there. So, before the international break, you of course always want to go out there with a solid victory before you go to join up with the international team."

ROJO: LEAGUE TABLE CAN QUICKLY CHANGE

Marcos Rojo admits Manchester United’s recent dropped Premier League points at home are a blow but is confident the team will soon get back into contention at the top of the table.

Heading into Sunday’s clash with West Ham United, the Reds are in sixth place, nine points behind leaders Chelsea, after being held by Stoke City, Burnley and Arsenal at Old Trafford in recent weeks.

And while Rojo shares the general feeling that United are playing well, as evidenced in Thursday's Europa League victory over Feyenoord, he accepts the team need to build on that and put a winning run together.

“We’ve deserved to win our last few games at home because we were the better team, but we didn’t come away with the wins, which was disappointing,” the Argentina international told MUTV before the Feyenoord clash.

“It’s an important game [against West Ham] to keep ourselves in the hunt. Winning would put us in a good position heading towards the Christmas period, where games come thick and fast – things can change a lot during that time.

“It’s a very competitive league that changes constantly. We’re a bit of a distance away from the top but the team is in good shape and we’re playing well.”

Rojo could retain his place in defence alongside fit-again Phil Jones this weekend, with the Englishman having played in each of the Reds' last three games in all competitions.

“It’s good and I’m really happy for Phil after the injury he had,” Rojo added. “He was out for quite a while. To have him back and playing well makes me and the rest of the team very happy.”
