Re: United Reserve Matches
Barclays Premier Reserve League
County Ground, 24 August 2009 Reserves: Bolton 1 United 3 United's Reserves made a winning start to the new league season, brushihg off the challenge of Bolton Wanderers to post a 3-1 win at Leyland's County Ground. BOLTON WANDERERS 1 O'Halloran 10 MANCHESTER UNITED 3 Cathcart 3, Tosic 45, Hewson 83 Craig Cathcart headed United into the lead early on, only for Michael O'Halloran to level soon afterwards. Zoran Tosic nudged the Reds ahead again, however, before Sam Hewson made sure of the points late on. There were also useful run-outs for Wes Brown, Darron Gibson and Danny Welbeck, all of whom completed at least an hour towards their early-season fitness levels. Those experienced heads bolstered Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Warren Joyce's side. A week ago, an inexperienced United team won the Lancashire Senior Cup final at the expense of a Bolton side boasting 11 players with first team experience. Here, the roles were reversed as a young Trotters side took to the field. United were ahead inside three minutes, as Cathcart rose to nod Tosic's corner inside goalkeeper Robert Lainton's near post. Parity was restored seven minutes later, however, as O'Halloran raced onto a Sam Sheridan through-ball and calmly converted. Although the hosts enjoyed a spell of pressure, it was always United who carried the greater menace, with Josh King and Welbeck leading the line with great strength and verve, and the former laid on the second goal for Tosic just before the break. The Norwegian striker pounced on a loose ball, steamed towards goal and pulled back from the byline. Although the ball was scuffed away from Gibson, Tosic was on hand to coolly outfox a defender and place his finish in the roof of the net. Lainton was repeatedly called upon to repel the Reds throughout the second half, either side of a triple substitution in which Tosic, Brown and Gibson were replaced by Eikrem, Hewson and Stewart. The latter drew a superb block from Lainton, who also excelled to keep out King and Welbeck, before Hewson rose to power home David Gray's cross and make the points safe. United: Amos; W Brown (Eikrem 58), Chester, Cathcart, De Laet; Gray, Gibson (Hewson 58), James, Tosic (Stewart 58); King, Welbeck. Subs not used: Zieler, Dudgeon. |

Re: United Reserve Matches
Baguslah klo Tosic ngegolin... moga-moga SAF ngelihat performanya Tosic dan ngasih kepercayaan dia maen di tim utama. Aku nggak sabar ngelihat permainannya di tim utama dan dikit kasihan klo mbaca Tosic (masih) maen di tim reserve walau statusnya pemaen utama timnas serbia.

Re: United Reserve Matches
Reserves: United 5 Bury 0
Manchester Senior Cup Moss Lane, 27 August 2009 MANCHESTER UNITED 5 Hewson 5, Macheda 31 (pen) & 50, Stewart 36, Moffatt 70 BURY 0 United made a merciless start to their defence of the Manchester Senior Cup, obliterating Bury with a five-star show at Moss Lane. Sam Hewson opened the scoring, a brace from Kiko Macheda and a Cameron Stewart strike made the game safe, before Scott Moffatt rounded off the result with a close-range strike to put almost 18 injury-plagued months to bed. United goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler was a virtual spectator all evening, so comprehensive was the Reds' victory, and Hewson set the ball rolling with just five minutes on the clock. Ritchie de Laet embarked on the first of many winding runs forward before teeing up Oliver Norwood, who beautifully disguised his pass through for Hewson, and the midfielder had enough time for two touches before stabbing home his effort. Whereas Monday's league win over Bolton slowed after an early United goal, the Reds continued to press with intent throughout the first half, and their lead was soon doubled - albeit after the needless concession of a penalty, which Macheda stroked home. The Italian had a big role in the third goal of the day too, plugging away down the left flank before crossing for Stewart, who took a touch and thumped home a left-footed strike. The pair switched roles early in the second half. Magnus Eikrem found Stewart out on the right, and the winger's pinpoint cross was emphatically nodded into the bottom corner by Macheda. United continued to press forfurther goals, with Macheda twice close to completing his treble, before unlikely goalscorer Moffatt popped up to volley home after Joe Dudgeon had headed another Stewart cross back across the goal. The defender had endured a torrid time with injuries, and his broad grin laid bare how much it meant to be back in action, and back amongst the goals. Substitute Matt James also came close to his first competitive goal of the season, only to be thwarted by visiting goalkeeper Cameron Belford, who also produced a fine flying save to keep out de Laet's late screamer. United: Zieler; Gray (Moffatt, 46), Cathcart (Chester, 46), De Laet, Dudgeon; Stewart, C Evans (James, 64), Hewson, Eikrem, Norwood; Macheda. Sub not used: Amos. |

Re: United Reserve Matches
