Re: [UCL] Manchester United vs Real Madrid, 2nd leg
15/02/2013 22:30 - ManUtdmcom, Nick Coppack
Reds may change for Real return Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed sympathy for those in his squad who didn’t play in last Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid but insists they may get their chance for the return leg at Old Trafford. The manager has always admitted that leaving players out of his team is one of the hardest parts of his job and never more so than for glamour games such as United’s match at the Bernabeu. “I know a lot of players were disappointed at not playing on Wednesday,” Sir Alex told media at his Friday morning press conference at Carrington. “That is to be expected. I would be disappointed if they weren't disappointed. “But the players who weren't playing were all behind the ones who were. That is good. There’s a good spirit here. That is obvious.” Madrid travel to Manchester for the second leg on Tuesday 5 March and the United boss says he's certain to field a different side to the one that drew 1-1 in the Bernabeu. "When you are successful you have to look at the overall squad. It will be a different team who play against Real Madrid when they come here. "One or two or three who weren't playing on Wednesday could be playing in the next game. "I have all these international players. Why can't I trust them? I could have played a completely different team on Wednesday and I think we would probably have got the same result." |

Re: [UCL] Manchester United vs Real Madrid, 2nd leg
Indikasi main ala Inggris dgn 2 sayap?
Kalo Madrid main masih kayak leg 1 menang 2-0 bisalah untuk kita hehe Defender mereka ga terlalu terekspos kemarin, kita serang banyakan berhenti di tengah, tapi sekali tembus langsung ketemu kiper. Semoga penguasaan bola di kita kali ini |

How Can Fergie Deal with Loss of Phil Jones for Real Madrid Tie?
Phil Jones limping off the pitch at Old Trafford on Monday night, and then subsequently leaving the stadium in a fragile condition, was one of the last things Sir Alex Ferguson will have wanted to witness. His Manchester United side overcame a stubborn and impressive Reading side to advance to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, but just how much of an issue does his jack-of-all-trades' ankle knock provide? Quote:
What Jones did against Madrid Phil Jones is a versatile player. We knew this from his time at Blackburn Rovers, where he played centre-back, holding midfield and a box-to-box explosive role. At United he's added right-back to his repertoire, and his tailored role in Fergie's side over the past month has shown us what a specialist he can be too. Against Tottenham, Sir Alex used him as part of a loose midfield diamond to help wall Gareth Bale in and keep him from roaming inside. Rio Ferdinand covered the ball over the top and Rafael helped double-team him. The result? No joy for Bale, but a 1-vs.-1 for Aaron Lennon to enjoy against Patrice Evra. Against Everton, Jones dropped into a far more central role alongside Michael Carrick and man-marked Marouane Fellaini, effectively nullifying the Belgian's threat and contributing heavily toward an easy win. Then, against Real Madrid, Jones tucked in and chased Cristiano Ronaldo's every move. The Portuguese winger got the better of Rafael, but failed to overcome Jones—so much so that he swapped wings and scored. Make no mistake, these are three specific game plans by Fergie for three very dangerous players. All three hinged on Jones, and without him Fergie has a lot to consider. Substitute Is there a player on the United roster who can replicate what Jones does? He needs mobility, tenacity, fearlessness and tactical nous. He needs to be able to play in a variety of positions and not be phased by ending up in strange or unfamiliar areas of the field. Some may point to Anderson, but his lackluster performance against Reading proved he's nowhere close to full fitness and therefore not able to fulfill this role. Darren Fletcher is out of the question, while Carrick will be relied upon to anchor the midfield and provide a consistent presence—Fergie can't risk his pace-setter being dragged out of position, and he doesn't have the pace to keep up with him anyway. A glance at the United roster, and it's easy to see that the only potential player to fulfill the Jones role...is Wayne Rooney. But do you really want an attacking talisman in such a sacrificial role? It's 1-1, after all. Don't be reactive, be proactive The moves to hinder Bale, Fellaini and Ronaldo were reactive decisions by Ferguson. Some managers do that, and in particular Paul Lambert is known for changing his side at will according to the opposition. Ferguson used to be stubborn and rarely changed his mechanics for anyone, but over the last two seasons he's become significantly more receptive to new ideas. He may have to abandon that mental growth for now, though, as United's lack of possibilities in this area may dictate he focus on overpowering Jose Mourinho's side. He's outscored plenty of teams this season already, and that's a product of having an electric offence combined with consistent injury troubles in defence. Fergie can field his usual attacking side with minimal reactive inclusions. Perhaps Antonio Valencia gets the nod at right-wing for his industry, or Rooney starts the game on the right as he did at the Santiago Bernabeu. Conclusion With no viable alternative to Jones, Fergie has to go for it. Regular readers will know tactical adjustments like the ones Jones has been subject to are what I enjoy the most, but when I tune in to watch the game at Old Trafford I want to see a Red Devils side built to outscore Real Madrid. If Jones is fit, sticking him on Ronaldo is a wise choice. Rooney's a waste that deep and no one else can do it—not even Anderson. Bring on the goals. Code:

Manchester United vs. Real Madrid: 4 Tactical Issues Van Persie's Injury Causes
Robin van Persie was subbed off early during Manchester United's 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, cuing UK-wide fears regarding his fitness for a pivotal upcoming game. The second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie with Real Madrid looms, and speculation will mount over the Dutchman's readiness. Let's take a look what tactical impact RvP's injury could have should he miss out. Prognosis Robin van Persie sustained a "bizarre hip injury" after colliding with a camera at Loftus Road. The Red Devils striker has a history of injury issues and only completed his first full healthy season in the English Premier League last year with Arsenal. The good news is his notoriously weak ankles aren't in question, but hips can be tricky. Sir Alex Ferguson isn't concerned, but everyone else is. Dynamic Duo Split Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie have been electric so far this season with 33 club goals between the two. Sir Alex Ferguson is the only English Premier League manager who employs a 4-4-2 formation, but it's not a true version. He basically utilises two nine-and-a-halves, making the link-up play and freedom attached to both strikers of pivotal importance. Subbing one, or even both, out for Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez is adequate, but not the same. This is Real Madrid; this is the UEFA Champions League. Phil Jones Emergency Doubles Phil Jones—as speculated—was the key man during the first leg tussle at the Santiago Bernabeu. He was everywhere, blocking Cristiano Ronaldo at every turn and bailing Rafael out of heaps of trouble. He did such a good job, Ronaldo actually switched wings in order to score. His potential missing of the second leg was a problem everyone was trying to solve in a pre-emptive, theoretical sense. One effective, if detrimental to the attack-esque suggestion, is the use of Wayne Rooney in the deeper midfield slot. The English forward has shown he's capable deep and has the legs to track, but he doesn't possess the required tackling skills to do the job well enough. It was a slim possibility before the Robin van Persie scare. Now it's certain not to happen, as Sir Alex Ferguson cannot sacrifice both dynamic attacking threats. A Big Night for 1 Lucky Reserve It's harsh to call Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez—two very capable strikers that would walk into most English Premier League starting XIs—backups, but that's exactly what they are. Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney are the first-choice pair, and Sir Alex Ferguson hasn't tinkered with his system that much this season. He's become reactive and tried out the midfield diamond, but more often than not makes specific counter-changes whilst retaining a principle shape. Given the understanding Rooney and Welbeck enjoy, plus the latter's superiority in the passing and build-up game over the Mexican alternative, he would get the nod nine times out of 10. Chicharito, for all his talents, is a little one-dimensional and doesn't match up well against an agile, clever and fresh defence in Real Madrid. But it doesn't matter who comes in to replace him; they won't be the same. The attacking line will be less fluid, and the ability to hold the ball in offensive areas will dramatically decline. Blunted Confidence It's not all about what he does on the deck. After losing out in the title race to Manchester City in a fashion no Manchester United fan wishes to recall, it was always going to take a marquee signing to reinstall the faith. His presence is an uplifter, a motivator, and when he's on the pitch his teammates know he's capable of scoring any time. And he only needs one chance. Will United modify their game without him? Impossible to tell, as he's not been laid off due to injury yet, but Arsenal certainly did. He's unique. Code:
