EPL Away Days Histories
premierleague.com - Thu 11 Sep 2014
Away Days stats: Manchester United kings on the road 13-time champions have the best record on their travels as well as the biggest away victory premierleague.com is celebrating the away match with a look at some of the records for teams and players on their travels in the past 23 seasons of the Barclays Premier League. The first away victory in the competition's history came on the opening day of the inaugural 1992/93 season, when Norwich City came from two goals down to stun Arsenal 4-2 at Highbury. As for the team to have won the most matches away from home in the Barclays Premier League, there is only one winner, Manchester United, the 13-time BPL champions. United have won 54.7%, more than half, of their 426 away matches (233 victories). Next in line are Arsenal with 190 away wins (44.7%), closely followed by Chelsea, five wins behind. United are also the team to have scored the most away goals in a match, when they beat Nottingham Forest 8-1 at the City Ground, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scoring four in 10 minutes after coming off the subsitutes' bench. However, if the proportion of away matches won is considered, Leeds United and Blackpool, who enjoyed only one season in the Barclays Premier League, usurp Everton and Newcastle United in the top 10. Re: EPL Away Days Histories
Best and Worst Away Point per season
Only one club has gone an entire season without losing an away match, Arsenal, twice. Not only did the Invincibles of 2003/04 not lose on their travels, but Arsene Wenger's title-winning team of 2001/02 had a better record by six points over the team of two years later. That record is still inferior to Jose Mourinho's Chelsea team of 2004/05, who dropped points on only four occasions on the road. Chelsea also hold the record for the most away victories in a row, winning 11 between 5 April and 6 December 2008. Arsenal's Invincibles went 27 matches on the road without tasting defeat. Re: EPL Away Days Histories
Players with the most away goals
Not surprisingly for someone who played in the first 22 seasons of the Barclays Premier League, Ryan Giggs is the player to have made the most appearances in away matchs (324), although Frank Lampard, who is second in the list with 288 away apperances, has a chance of closing the gap while he is on loan at Manchester City until January. Alan Shearer has scored the most goals on his travels, bagging 87 for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. But Wayne Rooney is the player to have scored the most for one club, with 73 for Manchester United.* Most away Apperances Player Giggs 324 Lampard 288 James 287 Barry 269 Speed 265 Campbell 262 Heskey 259 P Neville 254 Ferdinand 253 Schwarzer 252 Player with most Goals away Shearer 87 A Cole 83 Lampard 82 Rooney 81 Owen 70 Van Persie 64 Sheringham 64 Fowler 60 Giggs 59 Anelka 56 Player with most Goals away for one Club Rooney Man Utd 73 Lampard Chelsea 68 Giggs Man Utd 59 Henry Arsenal 55 Owen Liverpool 55 Shearer Newcastle 53 Sheringham Spurs 49 Gerrard Liverpool 48 Scholes Man Utd 48 Wright Arsenal 47 Solskjaer is one of seven players to have scored four goals in an away match, Efan Ekoku the first to do so, for Norwich City at Everton in September 1993.
