Rather handy for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that reports leaked of his fury behind closed doors, following Manchester United’s penalty fiasco at Wolves on Monday. Until that point, he was beginning to look a bit soft.

Solskjaer’s appeal was always, in part, that he was not Jose Mourinho. He was not dark, he was not seething beneath the surface, he was not manipulative. He was a bona fide, straight-talking Manchester United hero, with a smile, a cheery, upbeat demeanour and a helpful hotline to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Yet at Molineux he looked a mug. How can any team of ambition not know who their penalty-taker is, prior to kick-off — certainly now football is governed by VAR? How can Solskjaer not have made it clear that Marcus Rashford’s execution is superior and preferred right now?

Yes, there is the matter of Paul Pogba’s ego. That a man who had missed three of his last eight should even enter into discussion with Rashford — no matter who won the penalty — says much of his flaws as a team player.

Yet Solskjaer invited that ego to overwhelm the moment if he did not make clear before the game that Rashford was now the go-to penalty-taker.

By all means name a reserve in case Rashford is unavailable, but that should be the matter closed. Instead, Pogba talked the younger man out of it, and missed, and Solskjaer then had the unenviable task of defending him.

Later it emerged that, privately, Solskjaer came over all masterful and took Pogba off future penalty duties. He also has the support of the team.

It all sounds rather convenient, protecting the image of the manager, again placing the blame on Pogba. Ultimately, though, it is Solskjaer’s job to manage, particularly the high-maintenance players in high-maintenance situations. All evidence suggests that did not happen on Monday until it was much too late.

Manchester - Paul Pogba masih akan menjadi pengambil penalti bagi Manchester United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mengatakan, tugas itu dibagi antara Pogba dengan Marcus Rashford.

Gelandang Prancis itu baru saja dikritik habis-habisan setelah gagal mengeksekusi penalti saat MU berkunjung ke markas Wolverhampton di pekan kedua Liga Inggris. Kegagal penalti Pogba terbukti merugikan karena MU akhirnya harus puas dengan skor akhir 1-1.

Paul Pogba has hit back against 'ignorant' online abusers after suffering disgusting racist abuse on social media.

The Frenchman was subject to a tirade of sickening comments after missing a penalty during Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Wolves last week.

His team-mates, the club and other supporters from across the game have all voiced their support for Pogba, as well as directing their anger at social media platforms for failing to combat the scourge of racist trolls online.

Pogba has now also spoken out about the abuse he suffered, posing in a photograph with his young son in front of images of Martin Luther King and his late father, Fassou Antoine.

Pogba wrote: 'My ancestors and my parents suffered for my generation to be free today, to work, to take the bus, to play football. Racist insults are ignorance and can only make me stronger and motivate me to fight for the next generation.

United players including Marcus Rashford, David de Gea and Harry Maguire all spoke out following the recent abuse of team-mate Pogba. Maguire suggested every account on Twitter and Instagram should be 'verified with a passport' in a bid to reduce anonymous trolling.

He wrote: 'Disgusting. Social media need to do something about it... Every account that is opened should be verified by a passport/driving licence.

Manchester United officials are understood have reached out to Twitter to demand a meeting in the wake of recent incidents on the platform. The club also released a statement condemning the racist behaviour.

'Everyone at Manchester United is disgusted by the racial abuse aimed at Paul Pogba last night and we utterly condemn it,' it began.

'The individuals who expressed these views do not represent the values of our great club and it is encouraging to see the vast majority of our fans condemn this on social media also.

'Manchester United has zero tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination and a long-standing commitment to campaigning against it through our #AllRedAllEqual initiative.

'We will work to identify the few involved in these incidents and take the strongest course of action available to us. We also encourage social media companies to take action in these cases.'

The publication then put it to Mathias that his brother Paul was said to be a Barcelona fan as a young child in France, but now is dreaming of a move to their bitter rivals Madrid in order to take his career to the next level.

In response, Mathias was forthcoming: 'We're professionals. What we thought when we were little doesn't count for much.

'He should go where they offer him the best conditions. Our mother worked so we could make it as footballers and now we need to make her happy.'

United are understood to be desperate to retain Pogba's services, and will look to fend off any late interest from Madrid.

'Pogba out,' reads the message, which is spray painted onto a sign telling fans not to congregate around the road to try and get player signatures.

There has been no secret made of Pogba's desire to find a Manchester United exit this summer, and it appears fans have finally had enough.

On the other hand, United have remained convinced that Real Madrid don't have the money to pay the £150million plus wages they're demanding.

Real Madrid have already spent hundreds of millions on signings this summer as Zidane looks to get the team back on track after a disappointing campaign last season.

The graffiti on the sign comes just a week after Pogba was racially abused on social media.

His United team-mates flocked to his aid, calling for Twitter and other social media companies to clamp down on hate speech on their websites.
