Preview: Wigan vs United



Form guide: The Reds are unbeaten in the last eight league games and won both festive fixtures at Old Trafford (4-3 v Newcastle, 2-0 v West Brom). Wigan, on the other hand, have won just one of their last seven matches... although it was their most recent fixture, away at Aston Villa. Against United, the Latics can boast a recent win at the DW Stadium but last seaon's result was the only win they've ever achieved against Sir Alex's men.

Ins and outs: Sir Alex will inevitably shuffle his pack for what is the Reds' fourth game in 10 days. Wayne Rooney, Anderson and Nani are out through injury, although Rafael and Phil Jones are likely to return. Shinji Kagawa played against West Brom after a long break, while Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs should all be fresh after being rested against the Baggies. Wigan are without Adrian Lopez, Ryo Miyaichi, Ben Watson and Albert Crusat, although Roberto Martinez was able to welcome Ivan Ramis back to action*on 29 December.

Last meeting: United beat Wigan 4-0 at Old Trafford back in September in a game that featured goals by debutants Alexander Büttner and Nick Powell. The last time at Wigan was a different story, however. The Latics won 1-0 that night, a result that severely dented the Reds' chances of winning last season's Premier League.

Opposition boss: Roberto Martinez is held in high regard among his peers and it's not hard to see why.*The Spaniard, who spent six years at the club as a player,*has kept Wigan in the Premier League each year since his arrival in the summer of 2009 (often against the odds) and instilled an attractive, attacking philosophy in his players. Martinez generally avoids making headlines, although he was charged by the FA for his post-match comments when Wigan and United last met. He claimed Sir Alex's men receive favourable decisions at Old Trafford and insisted Danny Welbeck should have been dismissed.

Star man: Republic of Ireland international James McCarthy*"has the technique to play in any team in the world", according to Martinez and he's certainly caught the eye in previous matches against the Reds. A gifted ball player, McCarthy makes Wigan tick in midfield and Sir Alex's men will be keen to keep him quiet.*

Sub-plots:*Antonio Valencia and Tom Cleverley have both spent time at Wigan and would no doubt love to score against their former club. Meanwhile, Javier Hernandez will hope to add to his impressive scoring tally against the Latics: he's netted four in five previous appearances.

Whistle-blower: Andre Marriner will take charge of United's trip to Wigan and it's the first time he's officiated the Reds since the opening day of the season when Sir Alex's men lost 1-0 at Everton. In the 15 matches he's refereed this season, he's yet to issue a single red card.

Rivals watch: Manchester City host Stoke (also 1 January 15:00 GMT), while Chelsea meet Queens Park Rangers in a West London derby 24 hours later (2 January 19:45 GMT)

Wigan v MANCHESTER UNITED: Rafael and Jones return as Fergie looks to rotate



Full-back Rafael is expected to return from a four-match absence with a hamstring injury when Manchester United visit Wigan tomorrow.
Phil Jones could also be available as United manager Sir Alex Ferguson once again prepares to rotate his squad.

Brazilian full-back Rafael has been passed fit after a hamstring injury
Ferguson noted Michael Carrick was particularly tired after Saturday's win at West Brom, whilst top scorer Robin van Persie seems certain to be recalled.

Motivasi terbesar the Latics ntar malem adalah kemenangan 1 gol atas United musim lalu, itu menunjukkan bahwa mereka 'BISA' mengalahkan United yg sebelumnya punya rekor sempurna, 100% atas Wigan. Ditambah lagi hasil kekalahan 4 gol di Old Trafford musim ini, tentunya mereka tak ingin di double United, apalagi kali ini maen di kandang sendiri. Bekal kemenangan 3-0 saat away di laga sebelumnya saat bertandang ke Villa Park tentu memberikan motivasi tambahan dalam menjamu sang pemuncak klasemen ntar malem.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has no new injury worries ahead of tomorrow's clash with Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United at the DW Stadium.

The Latics' injury problems finally appear to be waning, with defender Ivan Ramis coming through a full match against Aston Villa on Saturday with no problems after a hamstring injury.
