Nike have developed new technology to prevent mud from sticking to the sole of their football boots.

The sportswear giant have introduced Nike Anti-Clog Traction in a bid to make footballers even faster and those who play Sunday League will know all too well how it could come in handy.

Nike have tested the boots on players around the world and they are set to star in the Barclays Premier League.

Nike have tested the boots on players around the world to prove how mud does not stick to the studs

'Mud has always presented unfortunate but seemingly accepted problems,' said Max Blau, vice president of Nike Football Footwear.

'Players are accustomed to clanking their boots together as they exit the pitch or rubbing them over harsh brushes to remove mud. Worse, they play slower and cautiously as mud makes their feet heavy and compromises their traction.

'Nike Football is focused on playing fast in all conditions, so we are committed to solving this problem for athletes.'

The technology took two years to develop and Dr Jeremy Walker explained exactly how it works.

'We stopped thinking about repelling water and started thinking about using it to our advantage to create a lubricious layer, without sacrificing traction,' he said. 'Understanding the molecular structure of mud was key to developing a hydrophilic solution, which helps keep mud from clogging the plate.'

Blau added: 'We've tested Nike Anti-Clog Traction on players around the world. They leave the pitch preparing to habitually clean the mud out of their studs only to discover there's almost no mud there.

'They can't believe this is even possible, but it is. As we continue to advance this space, we see opportunities not just for football but for all sports that deal with muddy conditions.'

Nike have been working on developing other technology too, including how new kits can help their athletes, including Cristiano Ronaldo.

They have introduced Nike Vapor kits which 'wicks sweat away from the skin 20 per cent faster' and dries 25 per cent faster.

Adidas have relaunched their iconic Predator Precision boots alongside David Beckham.

The boots were first brought out in 2000 and were the first Predators of the new millennium, worn by the likes of Beckham, David Trezeguet, Steven Gerrard and Zinedine Zidane.

And now new fans will be able to get their hands on the classic footballing footwear - as long as they act quickly during the limited release.


Adidas have announced that they will be relaunching the iconic Predator Precision boots. The football boots include the famed fold-over tongue and will have a limited release. They have been given a blue design and will retail for £299 when they are released

Adidas have gone for an ultra-classic design, bringing back the famous fold-over tongue and velcro strap while relaunching the boots in a beautiful blue shade.

And in order to give players the same benefit as a modern pair of boots, adidas have also included the soleplate of their ACE 17 range so they are more lightweight than the original version.

Beckham posed for a series of photos with the boots, which he famously wore for both England and Manchester United.
