Default Re: Memandang Masa Depan Manchester United

Erling Braut Haaland is deceptively quick, presses from the front and grew up idolising Zlatan Ibrahimovic... but where would the striker nicknamed 'Manchild' fit in at Manchester United?

* Erling Braut Haaland is wanted by Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* Haaland has scored an incredible 26 goals in just 18 games for Salzburg this term
* At 6ft 4in, the striker has the physical attributes to cope with English football
* The 19-year-old is used to pressing defences high - something United are doing

With January approaching ever closer, football managers are assessing what potential deals can be done in that month-long window.

One player who will be on many top clubs' radar is Erling Braut Haaland. The 19-year-old has a staggering 26 goals in just 18 games for Austrian side RB Salzburg so far this season.

The Norway international has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United throughout this season so far - with the Red Devils reportedly been keeping close tabs on their top target.

RB Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland has attracted interest from Manchester United. How Haaland would look in the Red Devils home strip - should he join the club in January

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown just how interested he is in Haaland by sending his 'personal scout', Simon Wells, to watch the teenage wonderkid, according to The Athletic.

Despite still being in his teens, Haaland has matured beyond his years and he would strengthen Solskjaer's striking options.

From an age and style profile he fits the mould of player that Solskjaer is looking to bring to at Old Trafford: young and athletic.

First and foremost, Haaland is an out-and-out striker - something United don't currently have following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer.

As a result this would give Solskjaer's side a focal point in attack.

It's been notable at times this season that they have been short of options up front. Jesse Lingard playing as a makeshift striker during their 2-0 defeat at West Ham in September highlighted that.

Lingard's deployment there was due to injuries to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. Both are now back fit and firing and it would be interesting to see where Haaland fitted in alongside both.

At present, Martial has been used in the No 9 role with Rashford coming in off the left in a 4-3-2-1 formation. In their last match against Brighton, they worked together brilliantly with Martial providing two assists and Rashford grabbing a goal in a 3-1 win. Once more they dovetailed excellently by interchanging positions on the pitch.

Any potential arrival of Haaland would see Rashford and Martial's roles slightly adjusted.

If Solskjaer stuck with a 4-2-3-1 formation then that would see Haaland as the main central striker. This could then see Martial drop back into the 'hole' linking play with the striker. Alternatively it could see Martial rotate on the flanks with Rashford - a position he was accustomed to during Jose Mourinho's reign.

Haaland is an out-and-out striker - something that United lack since Romelu Lukaku's exit. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have dovetailed to good effect at United this term. How United could line up with Haaland in attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation this season if he joined

Dan James, who has excelled since his £15million summer switch from Swansea, would then be able to retain his place on the opposite wing. Another plus point for Solskjaer is that it would enable him to maintain his fluidity in attack with the players able to rotate. While very offensive though, it could leave United open to being counter-attacked themselves.

A 4-3-3 formation could provide United with more solidity in midfield while not diminishing their attacking threat too much. If this formation was used then Haaland would be the central option with Martial on the left and Rashford on the right. Again fluidity would be maintained with all three able to play centrally at some point in a game.

At 6ft 4in and with a muscular frame, Haaland has the natural physical attributes to cope with the rigours of English football. The forward is deceptively quick with a good turn of pace too - allowing him to play the style that Solskjaer wants.

Once more too, he presses from the front at Salzburg - something United are implementing at the moment. Haaland learned to press high at Molde - the club where he demonstrated his work-ethic under Solskjaer before.

Nicknamed 'Manchild' during his time at Molde, his dedication to the gym allied alongside taking on-board finishing tips from Solskjaer enabled him to become the precocious talent that he is today.

At 6ft 4in, the 19-year-old has the physical attributes to succeed in English football. If United played a 4-3-3 formation then he would start through the middle in a fluid front three

Haaland, son of former Leeds midfielder Alf Inge, has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

'I had many role models and looked up to many football players, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the greatest of them all,' he said.

'The way he got so good, the way he plays… Besides, he's Scandinavian, so he has to be followed by one!'

United got Ibrahimovic towards the twilight of his career but he still managed to score a remarkable 28 goals in his debut season before a knee injury curtailed it.

If United do manage to sign Haaland and he goes on to emulate Ibrahimovic then Old Trafford supporters would have no complaints whatsoever.

Dylan Levitt and James Garner show signs of class in the midfield pivot, while Ethan Laird took plenty of risks from right back... how the Manchester United kids fared in defeat at Astana

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed debuts to many of his Manchester United starlets
* James Garner, Ethan Laird, Di'Shon Bernard and Dylan Levitt all started vs Astana
* Seven of United's starting XI were born after their 1999 Champions League win

With Manchester United's qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League secured already, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed his young guns the chance to shine away at Astana on Thursday.

Remarkably, seven of United's starting XI in Kazakhstan against Astana were born after the club's historic Champions League final triumph over Bayern Munich back in 1999.

Here, Sportsmail assesses the United debutants in action, plus James Garner, during their shock 2-1 defeat at the Astana Arena...

Ethan Laird - Right back

Laird showed real bravery and energy going forward and created a brilliant chance early on for Jesse Lingard after overlapping Tahith Chong on the right before dragging the ball back to the England international, who couldn't convert.

And as United came under increasing pressure during the second half, Laird continued to provide a welcome outlet down the right flank for the Red Devils by taking risks.

The 18-year-old could have got out to his opponent winger quicker on occasions but over time, he will learn. Overall, a very solid debut – we will learn more over the coming months.

Owen Hargreaves said when asked who impressed him the most: 'Laird looked great. He looked quick and lively, I was impressed by him.'

First-team chances: 3/5

Ethan Laird showed bravery going forward for the visitors on Thursday at the Astana Arena

Di'Shon Bernard - Centre back

Bernard scored a very unfortunate own goal as Astana turned the game on its head to make it 2-1 in the 62nd minute.

After United were caught sleeping down the left, the teenager was left to deal with the danger but he inadvertently put into his own net after Antonio Rukavina smashed the ball across the box.

The second half proved a tricky ordeal for the 18-year-old alongside Axel Tuanzebe but in the opening period, he showed no signs of nerves, had good positioning and looked tidy on the ball.

First-team chances: 2/5

Di'Shon Bernard scored a hugely unfortunate own-goal as Astana went ahead in Kazakhstan

Dylan Levitt - Central midfield

The 19-year-old looked accomplished on the ball from the off in the midfield pivot with fellow youngster Garner – with the pair controlling the tempo in the first half as United went ahead through a deflected Lingard effort.

Levitt, who is very highly rated within the Old Trafford set-up, was very composed on the ball, showing great touch and movement to glide across the pitch. Failed to influence play much in the second half but he will be hoping to follow in the path of Scott McTominay.

Levitt picked up a yellow card just before the hour mark for a challenge on Astana's Abzal Beysebekov, but it was a very harsh decision from the referee.

First-team chances: 3.5/5

Dylan Levitt looked very composed in the middle of the pitch, especially in the first half

James Garner - Central midfield

Garner was the most experienced out of the four youngsters on display from the start, having featured twice in the Europa League already this season.

And Garner showed signs of maturity in Astana on Thursday with plenty of United's build-up play coming through the 18-year-old, who never looked to force the issue.

However, just like with Levitt, he failed to impact proceedings in the second half as the hosts started to find confidence and rhythm. The pair needed to take a few more risks in the closing stages.

First-team chances: 3/5

James Garner dictated the tempo in the first half but found it difficult in the second period

SUBSTITUTIONS

D'Mani Bughail-Mellor (64 mins) - Forward

Bughail-Mellor replaced Tahith Chong, who missed an absolute sitter to make it 2-0 to United, in the 64th minute. Struggled to get at the Astana defence when he came on for the Premier League outfit.

Largie Ramazani (83 mins) - Forward

Replaced Garner with seven minutes of normal time remaining.

Ethan Galbraith (88 mins) - Midfielder

Not enough time to help earn a last-gasp equaliser.

Default Re: Memandang Masa Depan Manchester United

Erling Haaland leading the line, Saul Niguez getting from box to box and Donny van de Beek replacing Paul Pogba... how Manchester United could line up next season as the Glazers give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cash to splash

* Sportsmail revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the backing of the Glazers
* They will give him funds for Erling Haaland, Saul Niguez and Donny van de Beek
* Manchester United need a clinical No 9 after the departure of Romelu Lukaku
* Saul Niguez would play alongside Scott McTominay in the heart of midfield
* Paul Pogba is set to leave, with Ajax star Van de Beek a replacement at No 10

After a brilliant week of results for Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's mood was further boosted by a visit from Joel Glazer.

The club's owners have assured the Norwegian that he has their full backing and that they have no plans to approach Mauricio Pochettino about replacing him.

Sportsmail also revealed that Solskjaer was informed that he would have money to spend on new players as he looks to continue his rebuilding job at Old Trafford.

Red Bull Salzburg hotshot Erling Haaland, Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek are at the top of the manager's wishlist, although they are unlikely to make the move to England in January.

Executive chairman Ed Woodward is determined to improve United's squad after a largely disappointing campaign, but he will open the door to Paul Pogba's exit after the Frenchman failed to force through a move to Real Madrid last summer.

So, how would Haaland, Saul and Van de Beek fit into the Red Devils' starting XI? And who else will make up Solskjaer's side? Sportsmail takes a closer look.

GOALKEEPER: DAVID DE GEA

In goal, David de Gea is the club's undisputed No 1 and still one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

His form has come under increased scrutiny over the last couple of years, but he remains an excellent option between the sticks and is clearly someone Solskjaer has a lot of faith in.

The Spaniard was rewarded with a huge contract worth a whopping £375,000 a week until 2023 back in September, and is going nowhere despite constant speculation over moves to Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus.

RIGHT BACK: AARON WAN-BISSAKA

De Gea will be United's last line of defence when the 2020-21 season kicks off, and he'll have Aaron Wan-Bissaka in front of him.

Although concerns remain over the 22-year-old's attacking abilities, he has proved himself to be a strong, reliable defender since his £50million move from Crystal Palace last summer.

He will continue in the right back berth next term, and could be there for the next decade if he goes on to fulfill his potential.

CENTRE BACKS: VICTOR LINEDLOF AND HARRY MAGUIRE

Victor Lindelof has established himself as one of Solskjaer's first choice central defenders despite having plenty of competition, and at 25, he still has his best years ahead of him.

Lindelof will be partnered by £80m man Harry Maguire, who was brought in last summer and tasked with becoming the club's next great centre half.

The former Leicester star may not have sealed his place alongside Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic just yet, but he has shown signs that he has what it takes to be the bedrock of United's defence for the foreseeable future.

LEFT BACK: LUKE SHAW

The situation at left back, however, is nowhere near as clear-cut, with Luke Shaw currently attempting to move clear of Brandon Williams in the pecking order.

The ex-Southampton star was preferred to the talented 19-year-old in Saturday's Manchester derby, but he has a fight on his hands to keep his place.

Ashley Young, who is now 34, has been used more sparingly this season and could depart when his contract expires at the end of the season.

CENTRE MIDFIELD: SAUL NIGUEZ

In front of the back four is where Saul will line up, providing United are willing to meet Atletico's asking price, which reports suggest could be as much as £130m given his current contract runs until 2026.

The Spaniard has spent his entire career at Atletico Madrid but is said to want a new challenge, with a move to the Premier League an enticing possibility.

Saul is a box-to-box midfielder who likes get forward and create goals, but isn't afraid to get back and help out his defence. He could be exactly what United need.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez (left) is a top summer target for United boss Solskjaer

CENTRE MIDFIELD: SCOTT McTOMINAY

Scott McTominay has looked increasingly like a proper Manchester United player this season, and his popularity has skyrocketed among fans.

The Scot loves a tackle and has a similarly energetic style to Saul, which should ensure Solskjaer's engine room never stops running next season.

He is a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson and former boss Mourinho, which tells you everything you need to know about his potential.

ATTACKING MIDFIELD: DONNY VAN DE BEEK

Sportsmail reported on Tuesday that Pogba is set to depart Old Trafford this summer after pushing for transfers to Barcelona and Real Madrid over the last two years.

A move for the former Juventus man will free-up a space in Solskjaer's midfield, which is where Van de Beek comes in.

The Ajax star, who has also attracted serious interest from Real, is a natural fit for the No 10 role and has the vision to feed United's attacking trio.

He will not come cheap, but the sale of Pogba will ensure the club's transfer kitty is significantly boosted next summer.

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek could replace Paul Pogba in United's midfield next season

RIGHT WING: ANTHONY MARTIAL

Anthony Martial has found his groove under Solskjaer after an up-and-down time during Mourinho's spell at the club.

The fleet-footed Frenchman has played through the middle and out wide during his time at Old Trafford, and scored while playing as a central striker against City on Saturday evening.

He has six goals in 13 appearances this term, but may need to revert to the wing in order to fit in a more prolific marksman next season.

CENTRE FORWARD: ERLING HAALAND

Erling Haaland is the man they all want, having burst onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg this season.

United are among a number of Europe's top clubs keeping tabs on the forward, who has netted an incredible 24 goals in 21 games for club and country.

Despite the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona scouting him, United may have the upper hand due to Solskjaer's relationship with him.

The 19-year-old played under his fellow Norweigan at Molde and is desperate to play in the Premier League. Fortunately for him, United are desperate for a deadly striker.

Erling Haaland is wanted by a number of European clubs after starring for Red Bull Salzburg

LEFT WING: MARCUS RASHFORD

Comfortably United's standout player so far this season, Rashford has added more goals to his game and is looking like a bigger threat than ever.

His best performances have come wide from the left, and it's a role he is likely to keep if Solskjaer lands Haaland or another big name No 9.

Rashford should eventually move into the centre full-time, but he's got years ahead of him to develop into United and England's main man.

How Manchester United could line up with Bruno Fernandes: £64m man will help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer break down packed defences in a No 10 role... but Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira face the chop

* Manchester United are trying to iron out a £64m move for Bruno Fernandes
* Talks took place in London last week with foundations of a deal in place
* Attacking midfielder Fernandes would help United break down packed defences
* Incisive passing and an impressive goal return are his stand-out attributes
* Fernandes likely to play No 10 role usually held by Lingard or Pereira

Manchester United appear to be edging towards the £64million signing of the Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

As Sportmail revealed last week , United executives Ed Woodward and Matt Judge met with Fernandes' agents and Sporting president Federico Varandas in London for talks over a deal worth £50m plus add-ons.

Now reports in Portugal suggest the transfer could be sewn up before Sporting take on Benfica in their Lisbon derby match on Friday with the main terms of the deal already in place.

But what will 25-year-old Fernandes offer United and where would he line up in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team?

What position does Fernandes play?

Fernandes may wear the No 8 shirt for Sporting Lisbon but his true role is as the classic No 10, dictating things just behind the forward line.

It's in this attacking midfield role that Fernandes feels most comfortable and is most effective when it comes to making full use of his attributes.

But on occasion, depending on the formation being used, Fernandes has occupied a slightly deeper role in central midfield.

Very infrequently, he has appeared for Sporting on the left side of the midfield but it's the central attacking midfield role we're most likely to see him in.

What are the strengths of his game?

Fernandes has a well-honed game for a 25-year-old with many strings to his bow. He's young enough to continue learning new tricks as well, which he'd certainly have to do at United.

His sense of positioning is impressive while his tactical intelligence has been noted in his development into one of Europe's most dangerous midfielders.

Having idolised and modelled his game on the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Andrea Pirlo and Zinedine Zidane, Fernandes has developed methods to break down even the most stubborn defences.

This may come courtesy of an incisive through pass, spreading the play to a wide player in space or a long-distance shot of his own.

Fernandes scores his second goal for Sporting Lisbon against Vitoria on Saturday night

Fernandes packs a potent strike from range, which will no doubt prove useful and spectacular, and his goal returns from midfielder are certainly impressive.

This season, he has scored 15 goals and created a further 13 in all competitions for Sporting, while last season he ended up with 31 goals and 18 assists.

United will obviously hope he can replicate those kind of returns but what they really need is a player that can help them break down the packed defences that give them so much trouble at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer's side have excelled against teams that come and attack them because they're so strong on the counter, but have often struggled against more negative, 'smaller' sides.

They will hope that Fernandes will help them pick the lock one way or another.

Are there any areas of his game that could be improved?

The physicality of the Premier League could prove an issue for Fernandes as it has been noted that he is pushed off the ball quite easily. Such an issue was noted during his time in Italy earlier in his career.

He may have to beef up a little bit to avoid being brushed aside by some of the strong central midfielders and centre-halves he will come into contact with.

And there are also justifiable concerns about his own discipline. Fernandes was booked 16 times last season (though he wasn't sent off) and has seen a yellow card nine times this campaign (with one red).

The Portuguese Primeira Liga does use the Video Assistant Referee, so at least Fernandes is accustomed to that, but he may want to watch his step a little in the Premier League.

How will he fit into the United side?

Solskjaer goes for a 4-2-3-1 system in the majority of United games, so Fernandes is most likely to play in the middle of the attacking three behind the centre forward.

This season, we've usually seen Jesse Lingard or Andreas Pereira occupy this position, so you'd expect a £50m+ arrival like Fernandes to move above them in the pecking order.

He'll typically have Marcus Rashford, currently in great form, to his left and Daniel James to his right, with Anthony Martial ahead as the centre forward.

The two holding midfielders behind him, who would be Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba when they recover their fitness, would take care of the defensive work so Fernandes doesn't have to.

United hope Fernandes will work well in tandem with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial

In the short-term if he becomes a United player quickly, Fernandes will probably start with Fred and Nemanja Matic behind him.

The No 10 position is undoubtedly one that United needed to strengthen. Lingard has struggled for form for a long time and hasn't scored in the Premier League since Solskjaer's first game in caretaker charge in December 2018.

There have long been question marks as to whether Pereira is a United calibre player and his performances this season haven't done him many favours. He has also now been linked with a move to Lisbon as part of the Fernandes deal.

Another possibility is for Fernandes to play behind a forward three of Rashford, Martial and James in a 4-2-1-3 with the two holding midfielders in behind.

Default Re: Memandang Masa Depan Manchester United

Solskjaer's Pogba puzzler: How does the Man United boss reintegrate the French star into his midfield just as Fred, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes are starting to click?

* Paul Pogba is expected to return from his ankle injury in the next few weeks
* French midfielder needed surgery and hasn't played for United since December
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team aren't doing badly in his absence as they find form
* The United boss now faces a headache as he works out how to reintegrate him
* Fred and Scott McTominay are in form but one of them may have to make way
* And it remains to be seen if Bruno Fernandes can work in tandem with Pogba

Paul Pogba's return from injury appears to be imminent but it's set to present Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a headache.

The Frenchman hasn't appeared in United colours since Boxing Day when he replaced the injured Scott McTominay at half-time against Newcastle United.

He then went off to have ankle surgery and has been on a steady rehabilitation ever since, with Solskjaer's United finally discovering some rhythm and results in his absence.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a dilemma as Paul Pogba nears his return to full fitness. The French midfielder hasn't played since Boxing Day after undergoing surgery on his ankle

Solskjaer confirmed last Wednesday that Pogba will return to training this week — before the coronavirus put a stop to it — and it's a matter of time before he's available for selection again.

Not only that but, as Sportsmail revealed on Wednesday, Pogba is now prepared to commit his future to United by signing a new and improved contract at Old Trafford.

That won't necessarily go down too well with a large swath of United fans who had been working on the assumption Pogba would be leaving in the summer.

In his absence, Solskjaer seems to have figured out his best midfield, with Fred and Scott McTominay anchoring things and new signing Bruno Fernandes providing spark further forward.

But he could soon face the dilemma of trying to shoehorn Pogba back into his midfield while not upsetting those who have been performing well in recent weeks.

So is there a way of reintegrating Pogba? We take a look at a few of Solskjaer's tactical options.

THE CONVENTIONAL 4-2-3-1

Solskjaer favours the 4-2-3-1 formation more often than not with the shape offering the insurance policy of two deep-lying midfielders to shield the defence plus a trio of attacking options.

In this instance, Pogba would likely have to slot in alongside Scott McTominay in the midfield two, with Fernandes in the No 10 role ahead of them.

Pogba is always going to want to push forward whenever the opportunity presents itself, picking up the ball in the transition and driving forward through the middle.

Bruno Fernandes has made an excellent start to life at United since his January arrival

That would undoubtedly place a burden on McTominay, who could be left alone to protect the back four against quick, counter-attacking opponents if Pogba is too far forward.

The positive aspect is that United could field a very speedy and exciting attack featuring Fernandes flanked by Anthony Martial, Daniel James or Mason Greenwood, with Pogba offering support.

But another negative is that either McTominay or Fred would be squeezed out of the side to make way for Pogba, something that appears incredibly harsh given they've both done well for United of late.

Possible United line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Pogba, McTominay; Lingard, Fernandes, James; Martial

AN ATTACK-MINDED 4-3-3

Solskjaer very rarely goes for the 4-3-3 system as it has the tendency to leave United looking unbalanced, either by playing two more defensive midfield players or two over-attacking ones.

It's often said that Pogba's best position is as the left-sided player in a midfield three but he's not often been deployed there for United so the theory has pretty much been debunked.

He could go there with Fernandes as his counterpoint on the right and either Fred or McTominay doing the defensive donkey work in the middle.

It would be harsh on United's Brazilian midfielder Fred if he lost his place in the side to Pogba

You'd then have a forward three featuring the pace of Martial and James on the flanks and a finisher like Odion Ighalo up top.

But it isn't hard to pick flaws in this system. For one thing, Fernandes is out of his best position, required to drift to the right side as opposed to threading passes from a No 10 role.

Also given that both Pogba and Fernandes will instinctively want to push forward, which one of them takes one for the team by tracking back to help the holding midfielder?

This one seems to be the fastest route to a clash of personalities between Pogba and Fernandes.

Possible United line-up (4-3-3): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fernandes, Fred/McTominay, Pogba; James, Ighalo, Martial

On loan forward Odion Ighalo could lead the line if Solskjaer opts for a 4-3-3 formation

A MIDFIELD DIAMOND

We occasionally see this shape from Solskjaer's United, basically a back four with a midfield diamond and then two forwards in a 4-1-2-1-2.

The good news is that this one avoids a diplomatic incident because nobody has to drop out of the side.

You'd have McTominay at the bottom tip of the 'diamond' with Fred on the right and Pogba on the left. Fernandes would then by at the top in support of Martial and James or Martial and Ighalo.

It would be Fred's role predominantly to drop back and assist McTominay in mopping up when the opposition have the ball, while they'd be plenty of options to move the ball out of defence.

Fred and Scott McTominay could work together in tandem in a midfield diamond formation

Harry Maguire is adept at carrying the ball out from the back and he would theoretically look up and have Pogba, McTominay and Fred all available for the pass to get United moving.

It also comes with the advantage of allowing Fernandes to concentrate on what he does best without having to think about tracking back.

The only downside is that it leaves United lacking a bit of width further forward though an overlapping full-back like Luke Shaw or Aaron Wan-Bissaka could compensate.

All things considered, this could well be the easiest option for Solskjaer to go for.

Possible United line-up (4-1-2-1-2): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay; Fred, Pogba; Fernandes; James, Martial

SOLSKJAER'S TRUSTY 3-4-2-1

For the bigger games, Solskjaer isn't afraid to send his team out in a 3-4-2-1 system and it often pays dividends, such as in the recent wins over Chelsea and Manchester City.

It offers the stability of three centre halves and plays to the strengths of wing backs Wan-Bissaka on the right and either Luke Shaw or Brandon Williams on the left.

It could also potentially offer Solskjaer another way of getting Pogba and Fernandes on the field at the same time.

If he played Fred and McTominay alongside each other in the holding midfield position, Pogba and Fernandes could be the two in behind the centre forward.

In such an advanced position, both could indulge their instincts to push forward and there wouldn't be any pressure for either of them to track back.

The onus would be on the wide players to get forward and offer another angle of attack and it's certainly worked well in the past - Wan-Bissaka was excellent in the 2-0 win over City.

Potentially, Solskjaer could continue with this set-up in the more important games once Pogba returns and revert to the diamond shape in lesser fixtures.

Possible United line-up (3-4-2-1): De Gea; Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Wan-Bissaka, Fred, McTominay, Williams; Fernandes, Pogba; Martial

menurut saya mending pake formasi 4-2-3-1, dengan Pogba/Bruno disayap bersama Rashford mengapit Martial. skema 3-4-2-1 tergantung lawannya, misalnya kayak pas lawan City kmrn
