Jesse Lingard 'set to be DROPPED by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Norwich clash' after Manchester United midfielder was hauled off at half-time during defeat by rivals City

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to axe Jesse Lingard for the visit of Norwich
* The midfielder lasted just 45 minutes in the 3-1 defeat against rivals City
* Solskjaer is said to have been angered by Lingard's below-par performance
* Juan Mata is expected to take his place in the team for Saturday's match

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to axe Jesse Lingard for Manchester United's clash with Norwich this Saturday.

The 27-year-old has been struggling for form all season and was hauled off at half-time after United's 45-minute capitulation against bitter rivals City in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

According to The Sun, Solskjaer and assistant boss Mike Phelan were angered by Lingard's performance and his inability to follow instructions in the 3-1 defeat.

The United boss has previously defended Lingard but now appears to be running out of patience with the underperforming midfielder.

Juan Mata is expected to be drafted into the team to replace Lingard for the visit of Norwich this weekend.

The England international failed to register a single goal or assist in the whole of last year.

It now seems like he will face a battle to win back Solskjaer's trust and a place in the team.

Lingard's deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of next season and talks are yet to start over an extension.

UNITED V NORWICH: ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday, as the Reds welcome relegation-threatened Norwich City to Old Trafford.

It is our first home fixture of the new decade, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will be eager to replicate our convincing win at Carrow Road back in October, when strikes from Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial wrapped up a 3-1 victory.

Since then, Daniel Farke's Canaries have won just one league game, and are currently bottom of the Premier League table, seven points adrift of safety.

Ahead of Saturday's match, here is everything you need to know...

WHICH TV CHANNEL IS IT ON?

Saturday's match will not be shown live on TV in the UK. However, you can keep across all of the action via MUTV. Prior to kick-off, subscribers can watch all of the build-up via the ‘Match Day Live’ show from 13:30 GMT. This will then be followed by live radio commentary of the match. Keep up to date with everything that happens on ManUtd.com and the Official App, where you can track live data and player statistics in the Match Centre. MUTV will show a re-run of the full match at 00:00 GMT on Sunday and then regularly throughout the day.

WHO'S THE REFEREE?

Anthony Taylor will be the man in the middle on Saturday. The 41-year old from Wythenshawe has refereed three of United's fixtures this term, including our 4-0 win against Chelsea, and our derby success against Manchester City back in December. Taylor will be assisted by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, with Robert Jones as the fourth official. Darren England is on VAR duty, alongside Stephen Child, who is his assistant.

EARLY TEAM NEWS FOR NORWICH CLASH

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to assess his options for Saturday's Premier League game with Norwich City after a taxing schedule.

The manager will check on his troops after the 3-1 Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Manchester City at Tuesday night and look for a reaction at Old Trafford against a Canaries side deep in relegation trouble.

Harry Maguire missed the derby with a hip injury and was being considered a major doubt for the game, according to Ole, who is expected to give an official update on the England centre-back's fitness in Friday morning's press conference.

Central midfielders Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay remain sidelined but youngster James Garner appeared to come through his return from a spell out in the Under-23s' Premier League 2 encounter with West Ham United on Monday evening, going close to scoring in the closing stages.

Nemanja Matic came off the bench against City and helped United's cause in the second half while Fred has played a lot of football of late.

Angel Gomes was another substitute to get some game-time in the derby and, hopefully, the other player introduced in midweek, Anthony Martial, will be fit enough to start after an illness.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 striker Adam Idah scored a hat-trick in the FA Cup win over Preston North End and will be the obvious replacement if top scorer Teemu Pukki is still not fit from his hamstring and toe injuries.

Keeper Ralf Fahrmann could be available but Timm Klose, Ben Godfrey and Josip Drmic are all long-term absentees for Daniel Farke's side.
