Ajax to hold a board meeting over wantaway forward Antony before making their next move for the £84m Brazilian... with Red Devils confident the move will go ahead if the Dutch side find a replacement

* Man United are waiting on an Ajax meeting before making next move for Antony
* The Dutch side rejected United's £76million bid for the Brazilian winger
* Ajax expect United to return with £84m offer and are looking for a replacement
* They have considered Roma's Justin Kluivert and Aston Villa's Anwar El Ghazi
* Napoli's Luciano Spalletti has dismissed prospect of signing Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United are awaiting the outcome of a board meeting at Ajax before making their next move for winger Antony.

Ajax rejected United's £76million bid for the Brazilian on Friday but the 22-year-old was hoping the Dutch club's finance directors would instead see the benefit of accepting such an offer.

Antony and his agents reason that such an offer may not come again and he has pleaded for the opportunity to join United. He is refusing to train and has been left out of Sunday's game with Utrecht.

Ajax expect United to return with another offer closer to £84m but are also looking for potential replacements. A move for Hakim Ziyech collapsed after Chelsea demanded £37m while Ajax wanted a loan.

They have considered Roma's Justin Kluivert who is the subject of an offer from Fulham while Aston Villa's Anwar El Ghazi, who is also a target for PSV Eindhoven, has also been discussed.

United believe that if Ajax can settle on a suitable replacement, the move is more likely to go ahead.

United want two forwards and a goalkeeper before Thursday's deadline.

Man united are waiting on Ajax to hold a meeting over Antony before making their next move. Ajax expect United to return with another offer closer to £84m for the Brazilian winger. Roma forward Justin Kluivert has been considered as Antony's replacement at Ajax

United retain an interest in Chelsea's Christian Pulisic but the Stamford Bridge club will only consider a sale not a loan.

Former United forward Memphis Depay has been offered but is not a 'live' target.

There remains the possibility they could lose Cristiano Ronaldo this week but at this stage say there is no change to his situation.

Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti dismissed the prospect of his club signing Ronaldo yesterday. Italian media had linked United with a potential £84m swap deal for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen amid reports Jorge Mendes had held talks with the Serie A club.

However, Spalletti said: 'If you’re asking me if I’d like to work with Ronaldo, I tell you no coach would say no to that. However, if we go into those areas the journalists like to fill in for themselves, then as Osimhen’s agent said, there are no negotiations.

'Speaking to (President Aurelio) De Laurentiis, he told me that he received no offer, so let’s remain as realistic as possible here and take into consideration only things that could happen.

'There are only a few days left in the transfer window, it seems unlikely that could go through. There is nothing concrete at the moment. It wouldn’t be a swap, it would be two different signings, in that case. One of the two can turn a game by himself. But in any case, at the moment we should not consider things that won’t help us pick up three points in Florence.

'Osimhen is the one who has to be the protagonist there. With a player like Osimhen, who is so talented, we know there is the permanent risk that some rich owner around the world will wake up in the morning and decide to buy him and that includes a club like Manchester United.'

United boss Erik ten Hag insisted after their win over Southampton that he still wants Ronaldo to stay and that he is happy with the strikers he currently has.

Ronaldo came off the bench in the 1-0 win and Ten Hag said: 'We plan with him. So we want him to stay. So that is what we want.

'We have Cristiano, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford so we are okay [for strikers].'

Manchester United reach provisional deal for No 1 target Antony worth £84m with the Brazilian expected to travel to England in the next 24 hours to sign a five-year contract and complete his move

* Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign young Ajax winger Antony
* The deal is worth £84million, with the 22-year-old eager to move to Old Trafford
* United have been chasing the Brazil international all summer as a priority
* Ajax have been unwilling to part ways, but have finally budged in negotiations

Manchester United have reached a provisional agreement with Ajax over the £84.2million transfer of Brazilian winger Antony.

A breakthrough was reached on Sunday with United offering a £80m fixed amount with £4.2m in add-ons, which includes a solidarity payment for Antony's previous club Sao Paulo. He will sign a five year contract with the option for a further year.

Ajax had rejected United's offer of £76m on Friday and insisted Antony would not be sold. However, their stance softened following a board meeting and United's increased offer. They have also revived their bid to sign Chelsea's Hakim Ziyech as a replacement.

Despite the fee, the club-record sale was not welcomed by Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder who had been bullish about Antony staying.

He said: 'Nowadays, everything is about money. I find this sad. But this is our world, it's very sad and I don't approve that these things are happening at us.'

Indeed, Schreuder, technical manager Gerry Hamstra and assistant Klaas Jan Huntelaar were insisting Antony should not be sold but the scale of the offer was considered too good to turn down by the club's financial directors.

After pleading for the chance to join United, Antony had been refusing to train and was left out of Sunday's 2-0 win over Utrecht.

Manchester United are closing in on an £84million deal for 22-year-old Ajax winger Antony. Erik ten Hag's side have been chasing the winger all summer and are now closing in on a deal. Ten Hag and Antony worked together for two years when the Dutchman was in charge of Ajax

He is expected to travel to Manchester over the next 24 hours once the deal has been ratified.

Antony's arrival will increase competition for places and may yet signal the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Though the club's stance has not changed and no offers have been received, United are aware his agent Jorge Mendes has been talking to the likes of Napoli and Sporting Lisbon to see if a deal can be struck.

United do not anticipate adding any more signings other than a goalkeeper.

They have made an offer to take Newcastle's Martin Dubravka on loan with an obligation to buy at £5m but Newcastle have been insisting on a straight sale. Dubravka, 33, has asked Newcastle to let him go.

Meanwhile, Everton remain interested in midfielder James Garner as do Southampton.

* The pair won two titles at Ajax, as well as furthering the young player's career
* Antony was seen enjoying life as he entered Man United's base for his medical

Antony has been pictured arriving at Manchester United's Carrington base for his medical ahead of an £84m move to Old Trafford.

When finalised, the switch will see the former Ajax man rejoining his former boss Erik ten Hag, who is the new manager of the Red Devils.

The 22-year-old Brazilian won a gold medal with the national side at the Olympics last year in Tokyo, as well as two Eredivisie titles in the Netherlands with Ajax.

Ajax had rejected several bids for the 22-year-old Brazilian, but finally succumbed after Manchester United increased their offer to a price that Ajax deemed worthy.

In recent days, Anthony had been vocal in his wish to leave the Johan Cruyff Arena, and the young player was unable to hide his excitement at getting his desire.

Antony was seen smiling as he walked through the Carrington complex, as well as throwing a hand signal in the air in joy.

The Trafford Training Centre near to the village of Carrington in Greater Manchester has been the club's training ground since 2000, and added a medical centre and sports science department in 2013.

Antony scored 18 goals for Ajax in his two years at the club, after moving from Sao Paulo, where he played his youth career.

During his two years at the Johan Cruyff Arena, ten Hag worked to improve Antony's game, and it is clear the Brazilian is keen to continue this partnership further at Old Trafford.

Manchester United CONFIRM the £85.5m signing of Antony from Ajax on a five-year contract as Erik ten Hag finally lands the Brazilian winger following weeks of haggling over a fee

* Manchester United have finally sealed the deal for Ajax and Brazil winger Antony
* The final fee following weeks of negotiations is £81.3m plus £4.2m in add-ons
* Antony, 22, has agreed a five-year deal at Old Trafford with option of extra year
* He withdrew from Ajax training and matches in order to force through the move

Manchester United have competed the £85.5million signing of Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford - with the option of another year - after a breakthrough in the protracted negotiations between United and Ajax was made over the weekend.

United offered £81.3m as a fixed amount with £4.2m in add-ons, which includes a solidarity payment to Antony's previous club Sao Paulo.

Ajax held out for more money after rejecting an offer of £76m last Friday with United manager Erik ten Hag finally getting his man to bolster his attacking options.

Manchester United have completed the £85.5million signing of Ajax winger Antony

Antony had pushed Ajax hard to be released and refused to train with his team-mates. He was left out of their 2-0 win over Utrecht on Sunday.

Ajax had always insisted that Antony would not be sold but their stance softened over the weekend after United offered in excess of £80m.

Antony then flew in to Manchester to undergo a medical and complete the deal.

He has typically played on the right wing for Ajax, whom he joined from Sao Paulo in a deal worth £18.2m in February 2020.

The Brazil international is reunited with Erik ten Hag after they worked together at Ajax. Antony will offer United another wide attacking option - he primarily plays on the right side. He leaves Ajax having scored scored 24 goals and contributed 22 assists in 82 outings

In total, he scored 24 goals and contributed 22 assists in 82 outings for Ajax, helping them win the last two Dutch league titles and also the 2021 Dutch Cup under Ten Hag's management.

If Ten Hag plays him in the same positions, Antony will likely replace Anthony Elanga in the current favoured starting line-up, although the United boss may deploy him as a speedy centre forward or on the left side.

United play Leicester City on Thursday night and then host Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League, as they look to build on the back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Southampton that have kick-started their season.

Antony has made nine appearances for Brazil, scoring twice, since he was handed his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela last October.

He will be in contention to make Tite's squad for the World Cup in Qatar this winter, another incentive to hit the ground running at United.

He has become their fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro, taking United's spending to over £200m.

Ajax are likely to make a move to re-sign Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea to replace Antony.

Manchester United unveil £85.5m Antony as he hails Erik ten Hag as the 'perfect' boss with 'exciting plans and ambitions', with ex-Ajax star penning a five-year deal at Old Trafford... and he could make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday

Manchester United have unveiled Antony, their second-most expensive signing in the club's history, following his £85.5million switch from Ajax.

The Brazilian attacker, who is now registered with the Premier League and could make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday, has signed a contract at Old Trafford through until 2027 with the option of an additional year.

'This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world,' he said.

Manchester United have completed the £85.5million capture of Brazilian winger Antony. Antony says United boss Erik ten Hag as 'perfect' having worked together at Ajax

'I'm thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them.

'Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development.

'His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.

'My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they put in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can't wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing success to Manchester United.'

In total, he leaves Ajax having scored 24 goals and contributed 22 assists in 82 outings, helping them win the last two Dutch league titles and also the 2021 Dutch Cup under Ten Hag's management.

John Murtough, United's Football Director, added: 'Antony is one of the most exciting young talents in European football and has exactly the right profile for the attacking, dynamic team Erik is building.

'We have been especially impressed by his desire to join Manchester United, and to be part of a long-term project to get the club back to the levels of performance we all expect.'

Erik ten Hag brands Antony the 'missing link' of Manchester United's attack and insists his £85.5m signing can become 'even more of a threat' to other teams in the Premier League after he opened the scoring in a dream debut against Arsenal

* Erik ten Hag believes Antony is the 'missing link' for his Manchester United team
* Antony opened the scoring on his debut in a 3-1 win over high-flying Arsenal
* And Ten Hag believes that his side will improve the longer the spend together
* He also dismissed any fears of an Arsenal comeback despite sustained pressure

Erik ten Hag branded Antony the 'missing link' after Manchester United's new £85.5million man scored on his debut to ruin Arsenal's 100 per cent Premier League record on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Brazilian's opener and a double from Marcus Rashford secured United the win at Old Trafford, with Ten Hag afterwards urging his team to use this fourth successive victory to kick on.

'You can see all of his potential,' Ten Hag said of Antony, whose dancing around the ball drew appreciation from the United crowd at times and showed his confidence on his first appearance.

'He will be a threat in the Premier League. We were missing a player on the right wing. [Jadon] Sancho and [Marcus] Rashford can play there but they prefer the left so now we have the missing link who can play well on the right.

£85.5million Antony scored in the first half of his Manchester United debut against Arsenal. The Brazilian played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax and his manager believes he is the 'missing link'. Ten Hag was understandably full of praise after his side's performance

'We needed that on the right wing with his pace and dribbles and expression. It (the Premier League) is going be a challenge for him but we saw his potential. We have to keep pushing. I set high standards every day. Everyone has to bring it every day to Carrington.'

After losing 4-0 to Brentford, Ten Hag cancelled the team's day off and forced his under-performing players to run 8.5 miles. He took part in that session himself and said United's upturn in form is partly down to the discipline he is trying to implement.

'It's a part of it,' said Ten Hag, who also reserved special praise for Christian Eriksen in his post-match press conference. 'From day one we set high standards. When you show discipline, you create a winning culture.

'This is what we have to work for. I'm not now thinking "we are there" but we are on our way. We are heading in a good direction. We are still far away. We have to go together every day and bring high standards to Carrington and know that good is not good enough – we have to be better. The players know you have to get better if you want to win trophies.'

Arsenal thought they had taken the lead in this game through Gabriel Martinelli, but it was disallowed for a foul in the build-up by Martin Odegaard on Eriksen. VAR Lee Mason sent referee Paul Tierney to his monitor, where he gave United a free-kick.

Manager Mikel Arteta afterwards claimed Tierney admitted to him it was a 'soft' foul. 'There's nothing we can do now,' added Arteta, whose side remain top of the Premier League table. 'It's too late. Just be consistent.

'We conceded the first goal. After that, it was all us. Chance after chance. Dominating the game. Imposing ourselves in how we want to play. I said at half time to the boys, "The game is there for the taking. If we play with even more courage, we are going to win this game".

Antony's goal came just 35 minutes into his career at United with a well-struck finish

'We went to 1-1. We suffered a goal (to go 2-1 down). It's a big lesson. If you want to win here you have to do everything so right.'

Arteta made a triple substitution when Arsenal were trailing 2-1 in the 74th minute, replacing Oleksandr Zinchenko, Sambi Lokonga and Odegaard with three attackers in Fabio Vieira, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe. The Arsenal manager was criticised for the naivety of those changes, with Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville among those who felt the introduction of such an attacking trio was a gamble.

Arsenal's team shape was in ruins after that and United capitalised to score their third goal. Bruno Fernandes played the ball in behind their back line for Eriksen, who then teed up the lively Rashford to score.

'I'm not here to evaluate United,' Arteta said. 'What I saw was a different Arsenal team that came here and played the way we want to play against these world class players and unfortunately we didn't get the result we deserved. To be consistent with the top teams and challenging at the top of this league you have to come here and play the way you play but win, and that's a very different story.'

Manchester United's new forward Antony has described the 'goosebumps' he got from scoring on his Red Devils debut at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian curled in the opening goal as United beat league leaders Arsenal 3-1, a result that took Erik ten Hag's side up to fifth.

It was an excellent start for Antony, who recently arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax for £82 million.

Speaking after the game, he described his goal to MUTV: 'Marcus [Rashford] passed the ball to perfection so when it came [to me], there was not much more I had to do. I saw the goalkeeper and the ball just came perfectly to me to place it as I did. I was very happy to just go with my instinct.'

'To score my first goal and share this moment with the crowd, with a great atmosphere, was brilliant.

'From the moment I stepped on to the pitch, I already had goosebumps because I know how much I wanted to be here and I know how much the crowd wanted this.'

'When I saw the ball going in, and the net shaking, I express all my feelings the way I did. Yes, it gave me goosebumps for sure.'

The 22-year-old winger also spoke of his celebration after giving United the lead. He added: 'It's a friends thing. So when I score a goal, my friends know what it is, it's a tiger. They know and that's how I celebrate.'

Ten Hag's men are next in action against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday night.

'This must be a joke': Antony wades into the £20m row over agent's bonus for £85.5m Man United transfer, saying an 'unknown person' is taking credit as a clash over cash risks overshadowing his move

* Two separate parties are trying to take credit for manufacturing the transfer
* They both feel they are entitled to the £20m bonus associated with the deal
* Antony has taken to social media to set the record straight about his big move

Manchester United's new star signing Antony has hit out at the agency claiming to have played a defining role in his huge move to Old Trafford.

Antony completed a £85.5million transfer to United on deadline day, penning a five-year contract with the Red Devils after going on strike to force a deal.

However, several parties are trying to claim credit for orchestrating the 22-year-old's move from Ajax, much to Antony's disbelief.

Forza Sports Group, owned by Revien Kanhai, took to social media to claim they played a defining role in the 'biggest transfer this year'.

However, the Brazilian's agent, Junior Pedroso, disputed their claim, saying he held the controlling influence in the deal. Pedroso was pictured shaking hands with Antony at Carrington after the transfer was completed.

Manchester United's new star signing Antony has hit out at the agency claiming to have played a defining role in his record-breaking move to Old Trafford this summer . Antony became Manchester United's second most expensive signing in the club's history

Both parties want to be credited with orchestrating the 22-year-old's deal as it will see them earn the £20m bonus payment that is associated with pushing the deal, which was months in the making, over the line.

Therefore, Antony has set the record straight, outlining exactly how the transfer came about following United's 3-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

On his Instagram story, Antony wrote 'This must be a joke!??!!' in a response to Forza Sports Group's post claiming they were heavily involved in his 'record breaking' move.

But, he has hit out at Forza Sports Group for claiming they played a defining role in the deal

He added: 'After so much work by our team/family, an unknown person wants to take control of my transfer.

'I kindly ask you to delete my name from your publication, as YOU were not involved in the negotiation of my contract nor the negotiation of the transfer between the two clubs #respect .'

Forza Sports Group's post included a number of accomplishments alongside a picture of employees toasting their success. The top item reads: 'Transfer agent on the 100M record breaking deal of Ajax and worldwide biggest transfer this year of Antony'.

Antony's agent Junior Pedroso has also said he played an important role in the transfer. Pedroso (right) took to Instagram to say it took 6 months of negotiations and two months away from home to get a deal pushed over the line

Antony's transfer to Old Trafford made him United's second most expensive signing ever, behind the £89m they paid Juventus for Paul Pogba back in 2016.

When asked about Antony's potential following the confirmation of his transfer, Ten Hag said: 'He proved himself already. Champions League, Brazilian national team and Olympic gold medalist.

'Brazil has a number of players so high talented. You can select two or three teams and he can deal with the pressure. He will bring temperament and creativity.

'Also for him it is a new start and he has to adapt to the team, to the Premier League and to the high intensity. But I'm sure he will adapt.'

Pedroso said it was 'one of the most challenging backstage of my career' on Instagram. Pedroso (top R) was adamant there was no 'third party interference' when it came to the deal

Antony made his mark during his Premier League debut for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

He scored United's opening goal in the 35th minute of their 3-1 win over Arsenal. He slipped the ball into the bottom left-hand corner after latching onto the end of Marcus Rashford's pass.

Taking to social media after the game, Antony said: 'A huge thanks to all MU staff and my teammates!!

'I'll never forget this day! To United fans, all my affection for this reception! Let's go for more! That's just the beginning.'

'I didn't have boots to play football': Man United star Antony lifts the lid on growing up as a 'humble little boy' in Brazil's favelas and reflects upon his 'emotional' debut goal at Old Trafford

* New Man United signing Antony has opened up about his humble upbringings
* The Brazilian, 22, 'didn't have boots to play football' whilst growing up in a favela
* Antony completed his £82million switch to the Red Devils on deadline day
* He admitted his debut goal against Arsenal last week gave him 'goosebumps'

Manchester United summer signing Antony has opened up about his humble upbringings in Brazil, revealing that he 'didn't have boots to play football' as a child.

The 22-year-old secured his dream move to Old Trafford on deadline day for £82million this summer, having previously spent two seasons at Ajax under new Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag.

But Antony has admitted that life as a youngster was extremely challenging for him and his family, living in a poverty-stricken favela in Brazil.

'I was just a humble little boy from a favela,' he told Sky Sports. 'I didn't have boots to play football.

'I didn't have a bedroom, I slept on the sofa.

'I lived in the very middle of the favela. Twenty yards from my house there were drug dealers. Sometimes you would be watching a game on a Sunday and there would be that smell, a smell of cannabis coming into the house.

'There were moments, my brother, my sister and I would cry and hug each other thinking about our lives.

'There were times in the middle of the night, we were bailing water out of our flooded house, but we'd still do it with a smile on our faces.'

Antony kickstarted his Manchester United career with a debut goal against Arsenal last week, as Ten Hag picked up his fourth successive Premier League victory to climb his side to fifth in the division.

Antony had 'goosebumps' after he scored his debut goal against Arsenal to help United win 3-1

The Brazilian international admitted that the goal-scoring moment gave him 'goosebumps' as he charged towards the Old Trafford fans in celebration.

He added: 'When I saw the net bulge and the fans on their feet cheering, it was very emotional. I had goosebumps.

'That goal was for my family and the fans.'
